“Hey, Android users, more and more free reading sites are about to shut down, and the Android app is getting more and more messy. It’s really important to find a safe and stable reading app. The site owner strongly recommends switching to a new app, and reading, switching, and finding books are super convenient!”
“Today, how can there be so few people?” Professor Zhang, a professor of civil law at Jiangcheng University, scanned the students in the classroom, shaking his head.
Usually, he would overlook one or two students skipping class, but today was really too much. When he walked in, he felt that there were fewer people than usual, and when the bell rang, there were still fewer students than expected. After counting, he found that only about twenty students were present out of a class of thirty!
He was taken aback, wondering if everyone was skipping class today. He smiled coldly to himself, pulled out the attendance sheet, and said, “Classmates, let’s take attendance.”
When he said this, Zhushi Jiu and Li Hua, sitting in the back row, straightened up, exchanging a nervous glance. Li Hua’s face was full of excitement, whispering to Zhushi Jiu, “I went, it’s incredible! You really guessed it, Brother Zhushi!”
Zhushi Jiu was unsatisfied, saying, “What’s there to guess? This is all from my experience! You believe it or not!” Li Hua continued, “If there are indeed nine students skipping class today, I’ll believe you then.”
According to Zhushi Jiu’s dream, Li Hua wouldn’t come to class, and when Professor Zhang took attendance, he would find that ten students, including Li Hua, were missing. Now, Li Hua was with him in class, so if nothing unexpected happened, there would be only nine students skipping class after attendance.
Both Zhushi Jiu and Li Hua were nervous, their emotions escalating as Professor Zhang called out each student’s name. When the attendance was over, Professor Zhang sighed, “Nine students didn’t show up! I don’t know what’s keeping you all, but at least you should give me a notice. You usually don’t take your studies seriously, and now you’re regretting it when the exams are near…”
As Professor Zhang lectured on, Zhushi Jiu’s goosebumps rose, his tone despairing and fearful. “What did I just say?”
Li Hua turned around, his face flushed with excitement. “I went, Brother Zhushi, I would’ve been doomed if not for you!”
Zhushi Jiu gritted his teeth, his voice firm. “Do you believe me now? It’s not about the exams; the whole of Jiangcheng will be destroyed tomorrow!”
Li Hua’s excitement faltered, his face pale. “At 10 am tomorrow, the world will end?”
Zhushi Jiu hesitated, “I’m not sure if it’s the end of the world, but in my dream, I saw an explosion at 10 am tomorrow that would destroy everything I saw.”
Li Hua pondered, “So Jiangcheng University will be destroyed tomorrow.”
Zhushi Jiu nodded. “That’s right.”
“Have you bought your ticket?” Li Hua asked.
“I did. I have a high-speed rail ticket for 5 pm today, direct to my hometown. I’ll be home by 7 pm.”
Li Hua nodded. “I’ll go with you.”
Zhushi Jiu was taken aback, surprised by Li Hua’s decisiveness. “You’re not going back to your hometown?”
“If the affected area is just Jiangcheng, then going with you wouldn’t matter. My hometown is far away, so even if I went back, it wouldn’t be of any use. And buying a plane ticket would be expensive!”
Zhushi Jiu was speechless for a moment, touched by Li Hua’s words. Li Hua was just happy to have encountered something so unreal.
As they left the classroom, Li Hua and Zhushi Jiu didn’t think about warning anyone else. They knew it was pointless, as no one would believe them.
They packed their bags, brought their laptops, and left the school. At 5 pm, they boarded the high-speed rail.
Nothing unusual happened on the way. If Zhushi Jiu hadn’t successfully predicted Professor Zhang’s attendance and accurately guessed the number of students skipping class, Li Hua wouldn’t have believed him.
As they sat on the high-speed rail, Li Hua looked out the window, feeling uneasy. “Is it really okay to just leave like this?”
Zhushi Jiu smiled wryly. “What else can we do? Honestly, if you didn’t believe me earlier, I would’ve even left you behind in Jiangcheng.”
The two of them arrived at Zhushi Jiu’s home, where his parents were surprised to see him bring a friend home without warning. Zhushi Jiu introduced Li Hua as his classmate, and his mother welcomed them in, though still bewildered.
As they settled in, Zhushi Jiu’s parents asked him what was going on, but he deflected their questions, saying he would explain everything the next day. Li Hua felt awkward, not knowing what to say to Zhushi Jiu’s parents.
Zhushi Jiu helped Li Hua to his room, saying, “You can stay here tonight.” Li Hua thanked him, feeling a bit uneasy.
As Zhushi Jiu was about to leave, Li Hua whispered, “Brother Zhushi, I’m taking a huge risk by believing you…”
Zhushi Jiu turned back, his expression serious. “I hope my dreams are all false. Let’s just sleep for now and talk about it tomorrow.”
“Brother Zhushi…”
Zhushi Jiu ignored Li Hua’s questioning, closed the door, and went back to his room. There was nothing more to say; whether Li Hua believed him or not, the truth would be revealed at 10 am tomorrow.
