“Ah, ah, ah——”
Zhushi Jiu’s wails and howls echoed throughout the dormitory, sending chills down everyone’s spines. His brain was a complete blank, all his thinking neurons seemingly gone, and his entire body was trembling like crazy, letting out a blood-curdling scream that resonated throughout the entire floor. He clutched his head, twisting and contorting his body on the bed, as if he was experiencing pain more intense than a thousand needles stabbing his heart.
However, in reality, Zhushi Jiu wasn’t feeling any physical pain. He was only reliving the memories of the extreme pain he had experienced beyond human limits just last week, which was affecting his mental state.
“Uh, uh, uh, uh, ah, ah, ah——”
After about ten seconds of wailing, Zhushi Jiu’s cries turned into anguished groans, his voice much softer now.
“Zhushi, Brother Zhushi?” A familiar voice entered Zhushi Jiu’s ears.
It was Li Hua, who was standing by the window, his face etched with concern, peering in at Zhushi Jiu.
Zhushi Jiu didn’t respond, still unable to snap out of it. It took him a good ten minutes to regain his thinking abilities.
“…Uh, ah, ah, ah…”
His eyes were bloodshot, and he was panting heavily, suddenly locking eyes with Li Hua’s extremely worried gaze.
“Li Hua…”
As soon as he spoke, Zhushi Jiu realized his voice was hoarse and weak.
Li Hua was more worried this time, not only because of Zhushi Jiu’s ear-piercing screams, but also because of his current state, which was so pathetic it seemed like he had undergone some kind of brutal torture, scaring Li Hua so much that he almost dropped his game.
“Brother Zhushi, what’s wrong? Do you need me to send you to the infirmary?”
“Grass…”
Zhushi Jiu was too weak to even sit up, his eyes filled with fear and despair.
“Grass, grass, grass, grass, grass…it hurts so much!”
Li Hua was extremely anxious: “I’ll go call the doctor! You have to hold on, Brother Zhushi!” As he turned to leave, Zhushi Jiu suddenly reacted and grabbed Li Hua’s arm.
“Wait!”
Li Hua couldn’t just leave, so he helped Zhushi Jiu up, supporting him as he struggled to sit up.
“What’s wrong, Brother Zhushi?”
Zhushi Jiu was still trying to regain his strength, gasping for breath as he replied, “Nothing…just don’t go.”
Li Hua hastily nodded: “I won’t go, I won’t go.”
As he helped Zhushi Jiu up, Li Hua noticed that Zhushi Jiu was drenched in sweat, his face completely drained of color. This sight was like something out of a TV drama, exaggeratedly vivid… Li Hua’s heart skipped a beat, but he could only wait for Zhushi Jiu to slowly recover.
To be honest, Li Hua was completely shocked, having been in the middle of a game when Zhushi Jiu suddenly started screaming like crazy and nearly dying in bed…it was too frightening.
“Listen, Li Hua.”
Zhushi Jiu’s breathing slowly stabilized, but his body was still trembling nonstop. Li Hua could feel it.
“I’m listening, I’m listening.” Li Hua almost thought Zhushi Jiu was about to say his last words, so he quickly pulled out his phone, saying, “Let me record this, just in case I forget later.”
Record? Why record?
Zhushi Jiu didn’t understand, but he was too exhausted to think clearly. The only thought echoing in his mind was, “We need to leave Jiangcheng immediately! Not just Jiangcheng, the farther the better! We’ll go to my house, gather my parents and little sister, then take a flight to your house, and bring your family along, the farther the better…”
Zhushi Jiu’s words spilled out like a torrent, leaving Li Hua utterly bewildered.
“Wait, wait, wait…what are you talking about, Brother Zhushi?”
Li Hua stopped Zhushi Jiu’s nonsensical ramblings.
“What’s wrong with you, Brother Zhushi? Why are you saying such absurd things? I don’t understand a single word.”
Zhushi Jiu had almost recovered his strength, but in Li Hua’s eyes, he was still talking gibberish.
“Ha, you don’t understand…of course, you don’t understand.”
Zhushi Jiu’s hand gripped Li Hua’s wrist tightly, making it ache!
He spoke slowly and clearly: “At 11 am, the dormitory will lose power! In the afternoon, there’s a civics lesson, and Old Zhang will take attendance! Tomorrow morning at 10 am, the end of the world will arrive!”
Li Hua was stunned: “???”
…Half an hour later, Li Hua finally understood Zhushi Jiu’s incoherent ramblings and pieced together the timeline.
He couldn’t help but rub his temples, laughing wryly: “Brother Zhushi, do you mean you’ve experienced two ‘todays’ already? The first time, you knew nothing, and then the shockwave from the explosion in the Jiangcheng sky killed you. The second time, you told ‘me’ everything, and we left Jiangcheng, spent the night at your house, but still died the next morning at 10 am…due to the blue light, and your body collapsed from radiation?”
“Is this the third time?”
Li Hua clearly didn’t believe Zhushi Jiu’s wild story, it was too far-fetched.
Zhushi Jiu knew Li Hua wouldn’t believe him at first, just like last time. He needed concrete evidence to convince him.
So Zhushi Jiu checked the time on his phone.
When he woke up, it was 10 am, and he spent around ten minutes recovering his physical and mental state. Then, he spent half an hour explaining his previous deaths to Li Hua, leaving only about ten minutes until the dormitory lost power.
“If you don’t believe me, just wait for a dozen minutes or so. In a little while, the dormitory will lose power!”
Li Hua was speechless.
He thought Zhushi Jiu might have gone crazy, developed some sort of psychosis.
Facing Li Hua’s skepticism, Zhushi Jiu didn’t say much, simply got off the bed, picked up his clothes, and entered the bathroom.
Taking advantage of the remaining time before the power cut, Zhushi Jiu quickly showered.
“Brother Zhushi, are you really okay?”
When Zhushi Jiu emerged from the bathroom, Li Hua was already sitting in front of the computer, reopening his game, but his eyes kept darting back to Zhushi Jiu.
Zhushi Jiu glanced at the time, muttering, “Time’s almost up.”
Li Hua didn’t understand: “What’s almost up?”
“The power cut.”
Li Hua was silent for a while, thinking Zhushi Jiu had indeed gone crazy from sleeping too much.
However, just as he turned his gaze to the computer screen, he saw the screen flicker.
“Ah?”
Li Hua rubbed his eyes, disbelieving what he was seeing.
“No way! The power really did cut out!”
The battery icon in the bottom right corner of the laptop screen was flashing, indicating it was not charging.
Li Hua checked the plug, making sure the laptop was properly connected to the power source. It was clear there was no issue with the connection.
Then, he tried charging his phone, which had only 30% battery left, but to no avail.
Zhushi Jiu watched, letting out a deep sigh, and patted Li Hua’s shoulder heavily.
“Let’s go, come with me to escape.”
