    Chapter 73: A Slide Tackle!

July 17, 2024 Author: Bulufen Warrior

    Chapter 73: A Slide Tackle!

Of course, the internet wasn’t lawless. Once A Yin was caught by the moderator, the other three couldn’t escape either.

About five minutes later, the four of them finished making the necessary adjustments and regrouped in the game. Thankfully, the game had just started. Otherwise, without reaching the next safe house, the game wouldn’t save, and they’d have to start over.

Old habits die hard! The group returned to the corridor.

“Those damn zombies are just unlucky,” A Yin chuckled, holding the axe and slowly approaching a zombie. He hefted the fire axe: “This time, I’ll give you a quick death. You’ll see this treasure!”

    Whumph!

    Crack!

The axe swung horizontally, severing the zombie’s head which flew off. Blood spurted like a geyser and splattered onto the ceiling!

Although mentally prepared, A Yin couldn’t help but roar: “Damn it! The blood volume is insane!”

Immediately after, a zombie’s roar erupted from the corridor around the corner. A Yin didn’t even need to look to know that the “Sunflower” zombies were definitely going to chase the sun.

    “Cover me!”

With a shout, A Yin took off running at his fastest speed, leaving the corridor corner and charging towards the fire escape door!

    Woo woo urgh roar—!!!

The zombie horde went berserk, their furious roars even more chilling and terrifying than those in the demo! As the roars echoed, countless zombies, like caged mad dogs, surged forward, crawling and biting!

You see, in Gu Sheng’s past life, Left 4 Dead had an issue. The game’s initial settings limited the maximum number of zombies that could spawn in each wave, never exceeding thirty.

Although Turtle Rock Studios did their best to enhance the game’s audio, visuals, zombie animations, and even background music to maximize the zombie spawn frequency, somewhat alleviating this awkward problem, the spawn number limit still affected the game’s visual impact.

So! In this world, Gu Sheng paid special attention to this aspect.

From the start, he set the zombie wave setting for this Golden Wind version of Left 4 Dead against “Train to Busan” and “World War Z.” He directly increased the maximum number of zombies that could spawn in a single wave from thirty to three hundred!

In other words, if Gu Sheng wanted to, he could even create a special wave of “Skyfall” zombies, dropping three hundred zombies on the players’ faces!

And in the corridor where A Yin was now, this technology was put to use.

Over fifty zombies spawned simultaneously. As soon as A Yin appeared, the zombie wave would immediately activate, without any delay, blasting off right then and there!

Undoubtedly, such a setting made the game experience smoother, and the pressure of the zombie wave more intense! After all, thirty cavalrymen charging in rotation differed significantly from three hundred cavalrymen charging together, in terms of visual effect!

The zombie horde was upon them! For some reason, the three people standing at the fire escape door felt that the zombie horde in the official version was more terrifying than in the demo version. It was like a raging flood, about to swallow the fleeing A Yin!

    “Ready!”

Seeing this, Liu Liu acted decisively. With a click, she chambered the gun and pointed it at A Yin! Zhou Jie and Bobo, following suit, raised their pistols, adopting standard firing positions.

At this moment, everyone’s eyes were focused on the frantically fleeing Captain Yin, and the audience’s hearts were all aflutter!

The next second, Liu Liu issued a short and powerful command:

    “Fire!”

    Bang bang bang bang—

The muzzles of the guns flickered in succession, and the sound of gunshots, like popping beans, reverberated in the narrow corridor, unleashing a hail of bullets!

Right now, it was just like before. It seemed that the tactics of the survivors were the same as before, with the three of them using A Yin as a target and firing. The only difference seemed to be that this time, they finally learned to hold the guns with both hands, and their firing postures were more standard.

However! Just when all the viewers thought that the classic scene was going to repeat itself, a sudden sound echoed!

    “Shhhala—!”

A Yin abruptly crouched down, his knee hitting the ground, and he slid down onto his knees. He quickly drew his gun, squatting behind the firepower network of his three teammates, aimed at the charging zombie horde, and pulled the trigger!

That’s right! In the Golden Wind version of Left 4 Dead, to encourage players to experience all weapons, Gu Sheng removed the setting that prevented pistols and melee weapons from being used together!

    “Bang bang bang bang—!!!”

In an instant, the four firing lines formed a comprehensive firepower network that covered the entire corridor!

The scene from the trailer unfolded!

The howling zombies rushed from the narrow corridor, blood splattered everywhere, and they fell one after another, like harvested wheat!

The three people by the fire escape door, as if possessed by battle gods, kept firing their guns, reaping zombie after zombie!

    Boom—

The elegant and cool scene caused the live stream to explode!

    “Ohhhhhhh—!”

    “What the… I did a slide tackle!”

    “That’s so damn cool!”

“What move was that just now? Holy crap, is this what a second-generation FPS looks like?”

“So damn cool! It doesn’t even feel like the Boss!”

“AAAAAAAH I’LL GIVE YOU FIFTY! Let me do that just now!”

“This Crab doesn’t have any meat, it’s truly awesome!”

“I’d make this into a video, if I did that, and use a QR code on my tombstone when I die, anyone can scan it and see me show off.”

    “Elegant! So elegant!”

    “Good work deserves a reward!”

    “Mind blown…”

For a moment, gifts flooded the live stream, planes and rockets flew across the screen!

Yes! Gu Sheng called this work “MFGA” for a reason.

It’s because he not only borrowed the gameplay settings of Left 4 Dead, which was hailed as one of the greatest online shooting games in his past life, but he also added many classic elements from second-generation FPS games on top of this classic IP!

    For example, the slide tackle!

This was an inspiration Gu Sheng got during a meeting, when he was demonstrating the gun to the Lu Bian brothers in the conference room.

He thought, since they were making a second-generation FPS, they might as well go all out. So, slide tackles, prone shooting, edge climbing, tactical aiming by tilting the head left and right, and some more detailed movement refinements that never appeared in the first-generation FPS, all came into being.

Although these actions were commonplace from Gu Sheng’s perspective, for the sensory pod market, which had only recently broken through mass production technology and was still inertia-ly using PC-era game settings, this upgrade in movement was undoubtedly a groundbreaking design innovation for the entire shooting game genre!

    “WOOHOO! Awesome—!”

As the last zombie of the horde charged towards A Yin’s face and was sliced in two by his axe, the survivors let out a cheer, looking at the corpse-strewn, blood-soaked corridor!

    “This impact is too good!”

A Yin hefted the fire axe in his hand, feeling like he was already in love with the feeling of hacking and slashing!

“So de-stressing,” Liu Liu also sighed with relief, saying sincerely, “It’s so exciting and refreshing. After working all day, coming here to fight some zombies is just perfect…”

    “Let’s go, let’s go!”

After a round of comments, Zhou Jie also tucked the gun back into her waist, pulled out the crowbar, and looked eager to try it out: “I saw Boss’s move just now, it was so cool, I want to try it too.” Everyone laughed at her words. A Yin waved his hand, and the group continued forward.

They passed through the corpse-strewn corridor, turned the corner where thick smoke was billowing, and were blocked by a burning table in front of them.

With no other choice, they pushed open a nearby door, hoping to find another way out.

It has to be said that the design of this game was very clever. Although there were no map indicators, the obstacles set up in the environment guided players in the right direction even without a map.

Pushing open the door, a simple room with a hotel-like layout appeared in front of them. There were only a few zombies inside, about three or five.

As soon as the door opened, a zombie closest to them was startled and let out a roar, opening its mouth wide and biting towards A Yin!

    “Go to hell!”

    Whumph!

A Yin reacted extremely quickly, swinging the fire axe in his hand and hitting the zombie’s head.

A crack echoed! The zombie’s head rolled to the ground.

However, before A Yin could rush in and slaughter them all, Zhou Jie shouted from behind:

“Don’t move! Let me handle it!”

As she spoke, Zhou Jie charged forward, squeezing past A Yin and aiming the crowbar at the lunging zombie, swinging it with all her might!

    Crack!

    Blood flew, brains splattered!

The perfect sense of resistance and vibration feedback made Zhou Jie feel as if she had truly hit something!

    Zhou Jie’s eyes lit up!

    “Holy crap! This feeling…so good…”

Unlike the light and fluffy feel of melee weapons in other FPS games on the market, Left 4 Dead’s specially built force feedback system allowed players to experience detailed parameter optimizations in terms of combat feel, as well as visual impact.

Of course, this was also because melee weapons played a very important role in Left 4 Dead. If Gu Sheng was making Rainbow Six Siege instead of Left 4 Dead, he probably wouldn’t have added a separate force feedback system for stabbing people with knives.

The new combat experience surprised Zhou Jie, who grabbed the crowbar and charged towards the remaining three zombies!

“Don’t shoot! Don’t shoot! These are mine! Let me have some fun!”

    The barrage was going crazy!

    “Such awful dialogue…”

“Can only say, it’s truly Zhou Jie.”

    “So abstract…”

“Suggest the moderator change the live stream to 18+.”

“It’s hard to tell who’s the zombie now…”

    “A person shouldn’t…at least shouldn’t…”

    “…”

    Ding! Dang! Dong!

With three crisp knocking sounds, blood splattered, and the three zombies fell to the ground!

As the last zombie was sent flying by a crowbar blow, crashing through the bathroom door, the group found a strange object on the washbasin in the bathroom.

It was a cylindrical container about the size of a mineral water bottle, made of glass, filled with green liquid. It had a biohazard label on it, covered with incomprehensible English.

The cap was white, seemingly unable to be unscrewed. The entire bottle was completely sealed.

    “What is this?”

Zhou Jie, who was at the front, picked up the little green bottle and shook it.

However! Just as she turned her head, about to hand the bottle to A Yin for inspection, a roar erupted!

    “Aw—!!!”

    Suddenly!

The zombie that she had knocked away, turned out not to be dead, only its lower body was paralyzed. It was lying on the ground and roared, its arm waving wildly!

Zhou Jie screamed in fright and took a few steps back!

At the same time, she couldn’t hold the little green bottle, and it slipped from her hand!

    “Oops!”

Zhou Jie cried out, reaching for it, but her arm was too short, her fingertips barely grazing the little green bottle.

    “Whoosh!”

The little green bottle flew into the air.

    “Oh!”

Seeing this, Bobo next to her also let out a gasp, reaching for it, but she also missed. Her fingers slipped, knocking the little green bottle away.

    “Oops!”

The little green bottle’s sudden change of direction also caught Liu Liu off guard. She saw it flying towards her, instinctively reached out to catch it, but she was a bit too slow and missed the bottle.

    “Whoosh—!”

Under everyone’s gaze, the little green bottle flew straight at A Yin.

    “Huh?”

Obviously, the little green bottle’s multiple changes of direction caught A Yin off guard. Not to mention a game streamer, even Buffon himself might not be able to predict that.

    So, a “pop” sound followed.

    Right smack! Perfectly centered!

The little green bottle, without deviating, slammed right into A Yin’s face and burst instantly!

    “Crack!”

The splashing green liquid instantly blurred A Yin’s vision.

“What the hell! What is this?!”

    A Yin was shocked!

This was just plain unlucky, wasn’t it?

That thing had a biohazard symbol on it, right? Was it corrosive? Or was it infectious?

A Yin quickly wiped his face and shook his head.

However, after waiting for a while, he didn’t notice anything wrong. His health was still a healthy one hundred drops, and the game didn’t seem to have any infection value setting. It was a bioweapon thrown in his face, but other than blurring his vision, there was no other effect.

For a moment, A Yin was puzzled: “Seems like…nothing wrong…?”

But before the words left his mouth, a series of sounds rang out!

    “Dong! Dong! Dong!”

There was a sudden, violent banging sound coming from the room opposite the corridor.

The four of them looked over in confusion.

Then, it seemed that there was a rumbling sound coming from all around them.

It was as if something was approaching them rapidly, in large numbers.

    “Tsk, hiss—!”

A Yin couldn’t help but gasp.

He seemed to have guessed the outcome, but he didn’t want to face it. If he wasn’t mistaken, the effect of this thing should be to attract zombie hordes.

Patting his wet, liquid-soaked clothes, he pointed at the three speechless, apologetic individuals opposite him. A Yin gritted his teeth, but couldn’t help but laugh bitterly:

    “Haha…you damn…”

    The next second!

    “Bang!”

The door opposite the corridor suddenly burst open!

A special infected, standing taller than the doorway with an extremely swollen right arm, charged out like a bull!

Behind it, there was a countless zombie army!

    “Whoosh—!”

The infected’s speed was so fast that it didn’t even give A Yin a chance to scream!

It slammed A Yin into the wall, then swung its massive right hand and grabbed!

A Yin’s two legs were tightly grasped in its hand!

Then, as if Hulk was swinging Loki, the infected grabbed A Yin’s legs and swung him around before smashing him to the ground!

In the team voice chat, the last words the others heard from Captain Yin were:

“I never want to play games with you three ever again—!!!”

Then, the sound of flesh colliding with the floor rang out!

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”—
