Chapter 132: The Strange Xiao Wu; Questioning and Excuses

“Alright, Teacher Zhao, I think we should part ways here. I need to take my students back to the Tian Dou Royal Academy.”

Finally back in the small town, Qin Ming bid farewell to Zhao Wuji. He had originally planned to return to the academy to see Teacher Flender, but the numerous unexpected events had left him apprehensive. Even though they were out of the Star Dou Forest, he wanted to ensure his students’ safe return home first.

Zhao Wuji nodded. “Alright, Xiao Qin, you were quite seriously injured this time. Make sure you rest and recuperate well after you get back.”

“Hey, Nan Feihuang, you need to explain this clearly. How exactly did you save me?”

At this time, Xiao Wu approached Nan Feihuang, relentlessly questioning him about what happened. Since waking up, she had been anxious. She clearly remembered just finishing condensing her third Soul Ring and talking to Er Ming when a powerful force suddenly knocked her unconscious.

When she came to, she found herself back with everyone else.

This left her utterly baffled. It was only after Ning Rongrong mentioned that Nan Feihuang had saved her that she pressed him for the truth. The incredibly powerful force that appeared that day had knocked her out. What about Er Ming? Was he in danger?

Actually, she hadn’t wanted to approach Nan Feihuang. She had been carefully trying to remain inconspicuous because a Title Douluo was with them. She was afraid of being discovered, but since Du Guobo hadn’t shown any interest in her along the way, she thought she was safe.

With their imminent departure, however, and her concern for Er Ming, she had to ask.

“Xiao Wu, you can’t be so unreasonable. Nan-xiong is our great benefactor,” Tang San said. “Nan-xiong, I sincerely apologize. My sister has always been this way. Please don’t mind her.”

“It’s alright. Since Miss Xiao Wu wants to know what happened, I’ll explain in detail. On my way to save you, I heard a roar and followed the sound. When I got there, I only found you and a pile of Soul Beasts knocked unconscious,” Nan Feihuang replied.

“Really?” Xiao Wu was still skeptical. “Then tell me, did it sound like a bull’s roar?”

Xiao Wu had set a trap for Nan Feihuang. If he said yes, he would definitely be lying.

A bull’s roar represented the Azure Bull Python. Da Ming wouldn’t have randomly knocked her unconscious, and even if it was Da Ming summoning her, Er Ming wouldn’t have simply left her unconscious on the side of the road, especially in a dangerous place like the Star Dou Forest. What if she was eaten by a passing Soul Beast?

Nan Feihuang was no ordinary person and easily saw through Xiao Wu’s trap. He deliberately showed a puzzled expression. “Miss Xiao Wu, you heard a bull’s roar? It sounded more like a horse’s neigh to me!”

“A horse’s neigh!” Xiao Wu was startled. It was that creature.

Twelve years ago, shortly after she had transformed, an incredibly powerful Soul Beast had appeared near the Lake of Life, alarming the true rulers beneath the lake.

Even those monsters couldn’t defeat it.

Its cultivation was far superior to Da Ming and Er Ming, by several times.

Fortunately, the creature didn’t cause trouble. It simply found a cave near the Lake of Life and settled in, rarely venturing out. Over time, the other Soul Beasts left it alone.

If you can’t defeat it, why bother?

But why had it suddenly appeared this time? And why had it knocked her unconscious? What about Er Ming? Had it attacked him?

Xiao Wu’s mind was a whirlwind, but she believed Nan Feihuang.

After all, Nan Feihuang was so young. Twelve years ago, he was probably just a baby. How could he know about this horse-type Soul Beast? It couldn’t have been fabricated.

“Nan Feihuang, I have one last question. Were there any signs of a battle where you found me?”

“No!” Nan Feihuang shook his head firmly. “If something fought the Titan Giant Ape, it would have caused widespread damage. With so many unconscious Soul Beasts nearby, how could they have survived and been brought back?”

“That’s true.” Xiao Wu pondered. Nan Feihuang was right. No matter how strong the horse-type Soul Beast was, Er Ming wouldn’t have been completely helpless. Er Ming’s attacks were incredibly destructive. If there had been a fight, there would have been some trace left behind.

If there hadn’t been a fight, it meant Er Ming was at least temporarily safe.

“By the way, Miss Xiao Wu, I have a question for you too,” Du Gu Yan suddenly said. Xiao Wu’s relentless questioning of Nan Feihuang had annoyed the somewhat overprotective girl.

“I noticed you’ve become a Soul Sage. But before you were captured by the Titan Giant Ape, you only had two rings. From being captured, knocked unconscious, and then brought back by my brother, you theoretically wouldn’t have had a chance to obtain a Soul Ring. Can you tell me how you obtained your third ring? I’m really curious. Is there a way to obtain Soul Rings without relying on Soul Beasts?”

Hearing this, everyone’s eyes turned to Xiao Wu.

Yes, they had all overlooked this point earlier. They had been consumed by fear, worry, and other negative emotions. Thinking about it now, it was indeed strange.

Especially Zhao Wuji and Qin Ming, the higher-level Soul Masters. The children might not have noticed Xiao Wu’s advancement to Soul Sage, but they would have noticed it if they paid attention.

From beginning to end, Xiao Wu theoretically hadn’t had the opportunity to obtain a third Soul Ring. It couldn’t have been that the Titan Giant Ape put her down specifically to help her obtain a third ring on their way, could it?

Nan Feihuang glanced at Du Gu Yan. He knew she was speaking up for him, but the information she had brought up might arouse suspicion from Yu Tianheng and Ning Rongrong. They were both direct descendants of the top three sects and knew a great deal about Soul Beasts.

Xiao Wu was covered in a cold sweat, feeling the weight of everyone’s suspicious gaze. She forgot about continuing to question Nan Feihuang, frantically searching for an excuse, no matter how flawed. Even if it was full of holes, she had to come up with something to get past this.

There was only one time she could have obtained a Soul Ring during this period!

“Actually, it’s like this. Didn’t I say I heard a bull’s roar? When the roar sounded, the Titan Giant Ape had already put me down and left. The roar also knocked out a large group of Soul Beasts nearby. I hunted a thousand-year lightning rabbit and advanced to Soul Sage. After that, I heard the horse’s neigh, which knocked me unconscious. Then, Brother Fei Jiang was attracted by the neigh and came to save me.”

“By the way, Brother Fei Jiang, when you came to save me, you must have seen the rabbit-type Soul Beast near me,” Xiao Wu hoped Nan Feihuang wouldn’t remember, and that he would help her get away with it. She even became more polite, changing her address from ‘Hey, Nan Feihuang’ to ‘Brother Fei Jiang.’

Nan Feihuang played along. “It was chaotic at the time. I only looked for what I needed, but there did seem to be a rabbit-type Soul Beast.”

Xiao Wu breathed a sigh of relief. “See? I was just really lucky, right?”

“I see. It was a blessing in disguise then.” Zhao Wuji nodded. With Nan Feihuang’s testimony, the Shrek group reluctantly accepted this explanation.

Although it sounded incredibly coincidental, there didn’t seem to be a better explanation. They could only say Xiao Wu was incredibly lucky.

Xun Yu, however, was thoughtful. Xiao Wu’s excuse connected the Red Rabbit, the Azure Bull Python, and the Titan Giant Ape.

On the way back, Xun Yu and Nan Feihuang had already secretly exchanged information about what happened.

Nan Feihuang had promised to spare the Azure Bull Python once. Unless he chose to break his promise, his first encounter with the Azure Bull Python would always put him at a disadvantage.

Xun Yu knew that Nan Feihuang would not easily break his word unless it was a desperate situation.

However, promises were a double-edged sword and could be used to his advantage.

After all, there was a significant information gap between Nan Feihuang, Xiao Wu, and the Azure Bull Python.
