Chapter 4: Dian Wei and Lü Lingqi’s Martial Soul Awakening: Twin Iron Halberds and Cross Halberd

Nan Feihuang, along with Dian Wei and two others, followed Nan Tianchen and Queen Lan Xue into the inner hall.

A separate martial soul awakening array had been prepared for Nan Feihuang, though it was slightly small, only capable of awakening one person at a time.

Seeing the three people behind Nan Feihuang, Nan Tianchen found them increasingly displeasing.

“My son Huang’er, are you really going to have these three awaken their martial souls with you?”

Nan Feihuang nodded. “Of course, Father, didn’t you teach me that a ruler needs loyal confidants, people he can trust completely, individuals he can confidently entrust with matters? And confidants are best cultivated from a young age. These three are the confidants I’ve chosen.”

“I told you to cultivate confidants from a young age, not to find freaks,” Nan Tianchen said helplessly. He sometimes suspected his son’s eyes saw things differently from others.

In other aspects, Nan Feihuang had been sensible and obedient since childhood, diligently and quickly learning everything, consistently pleasing him.

It was only his judgment of people that left him speechless.

An idiot, a mute, and a bizarre individual whose name he couldn’t even remember correctly – all from slave backgrounds. How could his son think these three were qualified to be his future confidants?

“Alright, Huang’er is still young and doesn’t understand much; he’s simply choosing based on appearances. Let’s awaken their martial souls first,” Queen Lan Xue consoled.

    The three were quite different.

Dian Wei was sturdy and strong, obviously someone who acted rather than spoke, a simpleton who would obey Nan Feihuang’s every word.

Xun Yu possessed handsome features and a scholarly aura; Nan Feihuang likely chose him as a companion for his studies.

And Lü Lingqi, although still young, was clearly a beauty in the making. When she grew up, her beauty would surpass anyone else’s. It was a pity she was mute; otherwise, she would make a fine addition to his future son’s household.

“Fine, let’s awaken their martial souls first,” Nan Tianchen waved his hand, temporarily dropping the matter.

But Queen Lan Xue sensed a hint of killing intent in her husband’s tone.

If these three possessed some talent, it would be fine. Otherwise, as the ruler of a nation, Nan Tianchen would never allow Nan Feihuang, the future king, to choose three useless individuals as confidants.

Since the child was still young and lacked discernment, unable to choose wisely, he would help him make the choice, eliminating these three and allowing Nan Feihuang to choose again.

They were merely three slaves; Nan Tianchen didn’t value their lives at all.

“You go first!” Nan Tianchen pointed at Dian Wei.

Dian Wei remained motionless, even after hearing Nan Tianchen’s words, until Nan Feihuang spoke, “E’lai (Dian Wei’s nickname), go.”

“Oh!” Dian Wei responded, then slowly walked forward.

Nan Tianchen wasn’t angry; instead, he felt Nan Feihuang had done a good job in training him. This boy, though somewhat slow-witted, was exceptionally obedient.

The most crucial aspect of a confidant was loyalty, obeying only their master.

Dian Wei certainly possessed this quality.

“Let me see your potential then. I hope you won’t disappoint my Huang’er,” Nan Tianchen channeled his soul power, activating the awakening array.

The Ancient Thunder King Country’s martial soul, a book, floated in his hand, surrounded by two yellow, two purple, and three black soul rings – seven in total. Among all the monarchs, Nan Tianchen’s strength was among the top ranks; only the White Tiger Emperor of the Star Luo Empire could surpass him.

The Sky Dou Empire’s Emperor Xue Ye, it was said, didn’t even reach the Soul King level, falling significantly short.

Guided by Nan Tianchen’s soul power, Dian Wei’s body uncontrollably floated, his hands glowing. The entire room was suddenly filled with an overwhelming murderous aura, as if one were amidst a vast army.

After all, the historical Dian Wei was a peerless general who had slain countless enemies on the battlefield.

Queen Lan Xue’s eyes lit up. She certainly didn’t believe such a murderous aura emanated from a six-year-old child. It must be an inherent trait of his martial soul. Such a murderous aura at the time of awakening certainly indicated an extraordinary martial soul.

The light in Dian Wei’s hands finally stabilized, revealing two halberds enveloped in flames.

They weren’t twin martial souls, but rather a type of dual weapon: twin iron halberds.

Each halberd was three and a half feet long, flat-shaped, with cloth wrappings at the top. Both ends featured one and a half-inch-long sharp spikes, connected by three prominent spheres. The spikes were conical, and the heads had sharp corners. The grips had iron rods extending upward, each with a crescent-shaped handguard. The blades were thin, gradually thinning and sharpening from the handle, with outward-curving, sharp corners. One halberd was held in each hand.

These were the very weapons that protected the mighty Dian Wei. If Hu Che’er hadn’t stolen his twin halberds, leaving him without suitable weapons, Zhang Xiu’s army wouldn’t have slain him so easily.

Dian Wei’s halberds, modified by Bei Xuan, were called the Blazing Explosive Twin Halberds. The left halberd possessed powerful fire attributes, while the right halberd carried explosive attributes; an ultimate offensive martial soul.

“A magnificent martial soul!” Queen Lan Xue exclaimed, “It’s a halberd-type martial soul, just like mine, and a rare pair of halberds at that!”

“Come, child, let’s test your innate soul power!” Nan Tianchen brought out a crystal ball. His tone toward Dian Wei had become considerably gentler.

This martial soul, even from a glance, was extraordinary.

His innate soul power wouldn’t be low.

The statement that innate soul power is proportional to martial soul quality might not be clear to commoners and low-level Soul Masters, but it was common knowledge among high-level figures of powerful factions.

“E’lai, use your mind to retract your martial soul, then stretch out your hand and touch the crystal ball,” Nan Feihuang ordered.

“Yes!” Dian Wei obediently retracted the twin halberds and touched the crystal ball. Instantly, the crystal ball emitted an incredibly dazzling light, completely filling the sphere.

Queen Lan Xue exclaimed in shock, “The crystal ball shows a reaction with just a hint of soul power, but such a dazzling light is no less than mine back then! Could it be… no, it must be full innate soul power!”

Nan Tianchen’s expression mirrored his wife’s. He hadn’t expected his son to be so lucky; he’d randomly picked up an idiot who possessed full innate soul power.

This kind of obedient, simple-minded, yet incredibly strong fellow was the best lackey – no, confidant!

He now held some anticipation for the other two. Since one treasure had appeared, why couldn’t there be a second or third?

“Child, wait on the side for now, let me awaken your friend’s martial soul,” Nan Tianchen patted Dian Wei’s sturdy head, speaking gently.

In this world, value earned respect; without it, death was inconsequential.

“Aaahhhh…” Lü Lingqi walked over, pointing at herself, indicating it was her turn.

Nan Tianchen nodded, reactivating the awakening array. Like before, Lü Lingqi’s body floated.

In her hands appeared a uniquely shaped weapon martial soul, resembling a windmill.

It was also a halberd, even rarer than the twin iron halberds: a cross halberd.
