Chapter 42: Planning the Imperial Dou Team

Nan Feihuang and Xue Ke strolled for about half an hour, chatting and enjoying the sights. In that short time, Xue Ke deepened her understanding of Nan Feihuang and developed a greater fondness for him. This fondness might not have arisen so easily, but Xue Ke’s intention was to genuinely fall in love with Nan Feihuang, so she subconsciously magnified his positive attributes.

Soon, they arrived at their final destination: the dormitory entrance. The Noble Academy’s dormitories were incredibly luxurious, especially for someone of Nan Feihuang’s special status – essentially one room per person. After all, the entire academy didn’t have many students, so the large dormitory area was more than sufficient.

“Feihuang gege (Older Brother Feihuang), you should rest early tonight. I’ll come see you again tomorrow,” Xue Ke performed a noble’s curtsy before taking her leave.

“Alright, thank you very much, Your Highness the Princess. Please go slowly,” Nan Feihuang bid farewell to Xue Ke and entered his dormitory. Xue Ke had told him earlier that she had personally arranged his room beforehand: a top-floor room facing south, the best one available, sunny and clean.

Pushing open the dormitory door, the interior was indeed luxuriously decorated. Though not overly spacious, it possessed great style, with a strong European aesthetic – undoubtedly Xue Ke’s arrangement.

“Oh, my lord, you’re back,” a voice called out from the doorway. It was Xun Yu; his room was next door, and he knew it was Nan Feihuang upon hearing the door open.

“Wenruo, here, I think you shouldn’t call me ‘my lord’ anymore. It might arouse suspicion. Just call me Feihuang,” Nan Feihuang said.

Xun Yu objected, “To address one’s master by their given name is disrespectful. May I call you ‘Your Highness’? After all, you are the crown prince of Ancient Thunder King Country, and I was a slave, granted citizenship by you. Calling you ‘Your Highness’ at least won’t raise suspicion.”

Xun Yu was incredibly stubborn on this point. ‘My lord’ implied Xun Yu’s subservience to Nan Feihuang, which might reveal Nan Feihuang’s ambitions. For the sake of the future, he could temporarily refrain from using that term; ‘Your Highness’, however, was acceptable, as Nan Feihuang was indeed a prince.

After all, he was a loyal minister of the Han Dynasty who dared to confront Cao Cao, ultimately being executed by Cao Cao with the cryptic order, “The box contains no fruit; please pick some yourself (裁, which sounds similar to采)”—a clever play on words meaning to execute himself. He couldn’t bring himself to directly address his master by his given name. He wasn’t Sima Zhao (a notorious usurper).

“Fine, whatever you prefer,” Nan Feihuang understood Xun Yu’s loyalty. This world lacked the Han Dynasty, so his loyalty was solely directed towards him. Nan Feihuang had complete trust in such a person.

“Your Highness, our ostensible purpose in coming to the Heavenly Dou Empire is to cultivate your relationship with Crown Prince Xue Qinghe and nurture your affection for your fiancée, Princess Xue Ke. However, the real reason is to obtain the celestial grasses. Therefore, I have already investigated the Heavenly Dou Royal Academy. It seems they don’t have the Imperial Dou team you mentioned before, but the academy’s current most outstanding seven-member team at the Sky Zenith level is very similar to the Imperial Dou team you described. Their captain is a Soul Master with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul,” Xun Yu, having arrived at the academy earlier, had wasted no time in gathering intelligence.

Nan Feihuang nodded, “Sky Zenith level? It can’t be wrong. That must be the Imperial Dou team.”

When the Imperial Dou team appeared in the original story, they were already a top team in the Heavenly Dou Royal Academy, with members close to Soul Ancestor level, the best among the Heavenly Dou-level teams, hence their name. At this stage, their levels would certainly not be as high, still only a Sky Zenith team, it is normal that they cannot bear the name of Imperial Dou.

“Wenruo, we need to find a way to infiltrate that team and get to know Du Gu Yan, using her to connect with and befriend Du Guobo,” Nan Feihuang sought more than just the celestial grasses; Du Guobo himself was also a target.

“Your Highness needn’t trouble yourself. Someone will introduce us to the team tomorrow. Remember we are exchange students. Your Highness should consider how to make a statement then. Rumor has it that the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon family members are all proud and arrogant, taking pride in their strongest beast martial soul. Since we’re still young, if we don’t subtly display our strength, we might not be accepted,” Xun Yu smiled.

“I see,” Nan Feihuang, while not as intelligent as Xun Yu, grasped the situation immediately. They had come as exchange students. This meant replacing two others. The Shi brothers, originally two defensive Soul Masters in the Imperial Dou team, had left, leaving only five members, lacking the numbers to participate in team battles at the Great Soul Arena. Therefore, replacements were needed. And those replacements were undeniably them.

“Don’t worry, Wenruo, I understand,” Nan Feihuang nodded. “Soon, I will let Yu Tianheng witness the might of my Sky-Painting Halberd.”

“Hehe, Your Highness’s bravery, I believe, will one day surpass that of the ghost god Lü Bu, or even the Overlord Xiang Yu,” Xun Yu said respectfully, expressing his trust in Nan Feihuang.

After several days of travel, both were tired, and with nightfall approaching, they retired early.

The next morning, when they opened their doors, several sets of white uniforms lay outside their rooms – sent by three academy instructors. Student ID cards and other items were also included.

The technological development on the Douluo Continent was rather strange. While lacking advanced technology, they used cards for purchases and had something akin to old computers for data recording.

They changed into the new uniforms and stepped outside.

The Heavenly Dou Royal Academy’s uniforms were undeniably attractive, making Nan Feihuang appear even more spirited. Xun Yu, however, seemed less enthusiastic.

“Your Highness looks quite dashing in it, but I find it unsuitable for me. I should still stick to blue,” Xun Yu commented.

“Haha, it doesn’t matter; we’re only exchange students. We’ll return to the Ancient Thunder King Academy once the exchange is over,” Nan Feihuang laughed; their academy’s uniforms were indeed blue.

Yesterday was a holiday, the academy less crowded. Today, however, the school was bustling with activity. The atmosphere, though, was rather unpleasant. It was a Soul Master academy, yet it resembled a miniature society, with boys fawning over girls, lesser nobles flattering greater ones, and some even lying on the ground as footrests for their masters.

Nan Feihuang and Xun Yu, as new students with an air of distinction, were left undisturbed by the less discerning nobles. This suited Nan Feihuang; he had his own objectives and no time for these spoiled brats.
