It can’t be that hard to open a hospital in another world, right? 34
by adminChapter 34: I Only Need a Few Months
Sir Roman’s face was ashen.
When he sent men to arrest Gretel, he hadn’t thought much of it – just a lowly soldier, bring him to the temple, give him a beating, lock him up for a few days, what’s the big deal? Would the City Guard really come knocking on their door and make a scene over a minor character like that?
Who knew the City Guard actually came. Not only did they come, but they sent a captain and two lieutenants; and not only did the City Guard come, but even the Bishop of the War God Temple showed up, willing to testify for that little fellow!
Why?
Why?!
Sir Roman gnashed his teeth. He instinctively wanted to clench his fist, but upon doing so, he realized he couldn’t even flex his thumb. Immediately, a surge of anger welled up from his chest.
He was finished anyway. Falsely accusing an innocent person, violating the Knight’s Code, and getting caught red-handed by the Archpriest in front of distinguished guests – for a knight who did such a thing, the best outcome would be to start from scratch as a soldier on the battlefield, washing away his sins with the blood of his enemies.
But he was already crippled. Even going to the battlefield, he couldn’t do it.
If so –
If so!
“He’s the one who did it to me!”
Sir Roman abruptly raised his head, staring fixedly at Gretel, his eyes red as if they were dripping blood:
“When I was getting treated, he wouldn’t let me pour the healing potion! After he and the Necromancer went in, he sent that black cat out, trying to drag me in! If it hadn’t been for me – if it hadn’t been for me holding on to the door frame -”
Gretel sighed.
He really missed Director Yu from their medical department. A solid, short fellow, good at arguing, banging the table, standing up to the Health Commission, and resisting medical disputes. Basically, with him standing in front, any unreasonable complaints would be taken care of, leaving only trivial matters for the doctors.
But now he was transported here. He had to face the storms outside by himself.
Gretel raised his gaze. Like any youth new to the world, experiencing the cruelty of mankind for the first time, he looked at the City Guard captain, his eyes clear, his voice trembling slightly:
“Captain, if Sir Roman’s accusations are true, what will happen to me?”
What will happen?
A commoner boy, colluding with the enemy, causing serious injury to a knight. Whether it’s the temple’s investigation or the City Lord’s investigation, it would be normal for Gretel to be beaten to death on the spot.
However, Gretel was clearly innocent!
Knight Nolan already had a fire burning in his heart. Coming here to grab someone, making false accusations, even if the other party was a knight of the temple, the City Guard wasn’t someone you could bully. Especially since Gretel’s father was once a City Guard captain, and he himself had just saved Sir Silro –
Knight Nolan furrowed his brow. Just as he was about to speak, the Archpriest of the Spring Water Goddess Temple sighed and spoke first:
“Child, you don’t need to worry.” The Archpriest’s voice was soft, his demeanor noble. Even if it was a knight from their temple who did the wrong thing, it couldn’t shake the dignity he displayed:
“The clear gaze of the Spring Water Goddess can see through everything. She would never allow an innocent person to be wronged.”
“Praise the Spring Water Goddess.”
“Praise the Spring Water Goddess.” The priests and knights all bowed their heads. Gretel, following suit, lowered his head, silently mumbling a phrase as if he had already paid his respects. When he spoke again, his tone was firm, his words sharp:
“Then, do you believe someone who falsely accused me before, can still be trusted when they accuse me again?”
Like a sharp blade suddenly thrust out from under a thick, soft cloak.
Like a grazing sheep suddenly revealing its fangs.
Knight Nolan slightly widened his eyes, somewhat surprised, as if he was getting to know Gretel for the first time. He then smiled with relief, a smile that made the Archpriest’s face slightly darken, looking somewhat unsightly. Sir Roman howled in a high-pitched voice:
“You’re lying! It was you who did it! It was you -!”
“Enough!”
The Archpriest suddenly lost his temper. His staff slammed down, a water-colored radiance burst forth from the top of the staff, instantly silencing Sir Roman. The Archpriest tilted his staff slightly towards Sir Roman:
“Take him to the deepest chamber of the temple for penance. He is not allowed to leave until he breaks through!”
…Penance?
Gretel was a little dissatisfied. But the Archpriest had already made his judgment, and with his status, even if he protested, it wouldn’t do much good. Gretel looked at Knight Nolan inquiringly, seeing the captain shake his head slightly, he kept silent and stood there silently. It seemed like he was showing respect, but he was actually distracted, studying the ground.
– Tsk, this floor is really smooth, it’s not marble, but it’s close to terrazzo. Give it a good disinfection, and it would be perfect as an operating room floor…
He stood aside, watching the floor with great interest, while Sir Roman struggled desperately on the other side. However, under the Archpriest’s divine technique, a knight’s strength was useless, he was quickly carried away. Only then did the Archpriest soften his expression, chatting politely with Knight Nolan before sending them away.
“Captain, what is the deepest part of the temple like?”
As soon as the temple lights disappeared, Gretel couldn’t wait to ask. Knight Nolan chuckled, reaching out and knocking him on the forehead:
“Still not convinced? You little guy, I’ve never seen the Archpriest be so harsh! – I’ve only heard about that place, it’s said to be devoid of light and sound, even the delivery people don’t speak, it’s for high-level knights to practice their quiet meditation. Even if Sir Roman is a fifth-level knight, he’ll need at least a year and a half to reach the breakthrough.”
“Er…”
“What…”
Knight Nolan raised an eyebrow. Gretel stammered:
“Then he might never come out…”
“What?”
Knight Nolan was astonished. “I thought there was something wrong with him, especially his right hand…”
He turned to the bald-headed Bishop:
“Is it incurable?”
Under the moonlight, the bald-headed Bishop’s expression was grave. He frowned, recalling for a long time, shook his head, then nodded again:
“I didn’t look closely, so I can’t say for sure. But, that old guy’s healing technique is about the same as mine, if he couldn’t cure it with his own hands, I probably can’t either. Hmm… If it’s a higher level of divine grace, like our Archbishop, maybe… ”
However, whether an Archbishop, who was at least level 11, would make a move for a fifth-level knight, was another matter.
Gretel looked left and right, his mind spinning rapidly. High-level divine techniques might have the potential for limb replantation, limb regeneration, he had to remember this. When he got the chance, he would study the principles!
He silently set a long-term goal for himself. Knight Nolan, after a moment of silence, pulled Gretel close and cautioned:
“If Roman is really crippled, the temple won’t keep him locked up forever. In a few months, or if his family begs for mercy, he might be released. – That guy is very petty, maybe he will come back to get revenge on you after he gets out, is your place safe? For safety’s sake, do you want to stay in the barracks?”
Under the moonlight, Gretel slightly tilted his head, beaming.
“A few months? I only need a few months. – I’ll become a Lawmaster Disciple as soon as possible, don’t worry!”
