    ## Chapter 51: Can You Pay to Speed Up Copying Books?

Gretel wasn’t surprised to learn his spiritual power had reached the standard of a Lawmaster Disciple.

After all, he had cast Healing Technique. According to the level classification of Pastors, he should be at least a Pastor Disciple. Although the power used is different, the level of spiritual power needed to cast spells should be roughly the same.

However, the world his spiritual power perceived… earth, water, fire, wind? Was this what he perceived, or was it the way Daoists understood the world as described in *Basic Meditation*?

Born in the new China and raised under the red flag, Gretel found it hard to accept the notion that the world was made up of these four elements. He had learned about modern natural science in his past life.

He had at least read *Medical Physics*!

What about the four fundamental forces, the strong nuclear force, the weak nuclear force, the electromagnetic force, and gravity… the first three can be unified into a single interaction… What about geometrical optics, wave optics, special relativity, quantum mechanics…

He had scored at least 93 on that test!

Though he had forgotten everything after the test…

But now, thanks to the benefits of being a transmigrator, he could recall it all again!

Just thinking about it, his old textbooks were flashing before him, opening page after page. Those definitions, theorems, formulas, and hypotheses… they all came surging back, leaving Gretel dizzy, nauseous, and ready to vomit…

    The meditation environment violently shook!

Gretel quickly brushed aside the textbooks and calmed down. He spread his spiritual power again and observed his surroundings. To his surprise, he found that the world his spiritual power perceived had changed!

Above his head appeared a vast dark sky, filled with twinkling stars. A mysterious force linked it to the earth beneath him. The four elements seemed to still be there, but were not as clearly defined as before. The distance between fire and wind, fire and water, became slightly blurred…

…So, is this meditation environment the world I perceive, or the world I understand?

Gretel was a little confused. Fortunately, these changes didn’t affect him. Or rather, the benefits that the meditation environment provided to his spiritual power did not increase or decrease due to the changes. So, he would just ignore it for now!

Putting aside his questions, Gretel calmed himself and began to train his spiritual power. He followed the methods described in *Basic Meditation* until his head felt slightly swollen. He then lay down on the bed and closed his eyes to sleep. He completely ignored the vocabulary list he had copied during the day.

    — Insufficient sleep affects the cerebrospinal fluid reflux, and the beta-amyloid protein produced by brain cells cannot be taken away for timely decomposition. It will accumulate in the brain, increasing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease!

    He didn’t want that!

Who knew if his enhanced spiritual power could replace brain cells, what if it couldn’t?!

When he woke up the next morning, Gretel’s eyes widened as he opened his notes.

    — He remembered everything he copied yesterday!

He hadn’t forgotten a single word!

Learning meditation and improving his spiritual power had this benefit?!

This meant he could speed up his vocabulary learning! He could start learning magic sooner!

Filled with this joy, Gretel’s movements were much lighter as he copied books in the Magic Tower. Unfortunately, his hand speed wasn’t easy to improve. He groaned as he copied for a whole day. Based on his estimate, he had only reached 5% progress.

Oh, Lawmaster Gelman had also given him a task to copy two books. Taking this into account, his progress was halved, only 2.5%!

All the feeling of accomplishment was gone.

Gretel slung his backpack over his shoulder, rubbed his wrist, and swayed as he walked outside. He took a few steps and suddenly stopped. Lawmaster Elliot was leaning against the entrance to the stairs leading up, playing with a small pouch in his hand, tossing it up and down while looking at Gretel with a smile.

    “How’s the copying going?”

    “It’s too slow.”

    Gretel answered honestly.

Honestly, his hand speed was severely lagging behind his brain speed. If he didn’t copy and just focused on memorizing, he might finish the vocabulary list within ten days. But copying everything by hand, even twenty days might not be enough!

“Then you need to put in more effort! The teacher is waiting!”

Elliot solemnly encouraged him and turned to leave. He looked serious, but for some reason Gretel felt like he was gloating. Thinking about this, he suddenly had a flash of inspiration:

“Elliot, does Lawmaster Gelman need the books urgently?”

    “Why do you ask?”

Elliot stopped in his tracks as expected. His reaction was so fast, it was like he had been waiting for this question. Gretel immediately followed him:

“If he needs them urgently, I have a method that might speed up the copying process. But I need your help.”

He intentionally paused here, looking at the other with pleading eyes, but didn’t say anything. Elliot raised his chin:

“What do you plan to do? — Find more people to copy?”

    “No, it’s not that.”

“Are you going to stay here and copy all night? — I’ll tell you now, that’s not allowed. You’re not a Lawmaster Disciple, so you can’t stay in the tower all the time.”

    “It’s not that either.”

“Then what is it? Don’t play coy, just say it!”

Gretel struggled to suppress his smile. This Elliot was really competitive. He had to guess before being told. — Perhaps that’s how all Daoists are, highly confident in their intelligence?

He lowered his head and assumed a respectful expression, asking the other:

“Elliot. I’d like to ask, are there any spells for replicating books?”

“—There are indeed. What do you want to do?”

Good. Gretel raised his head, looking straight into Elliot’s eyes, and spoke confidently:

“I want to ask you to cast a spell and replicate *Magical Script* once. Then I’ll cut the pages and paste them together in alphabetical order. After that, you can replicate it again, and Lawmaster Gelman’s request will be fulfilled.”

    “……”

    “……”

Elliot was silent for a while, then another while. He suddenly laughed and extended his hand:

“Good idea. Ten gold coins for my services.”

“???” Wait, I have to pay you?

Gretel was stunned. Elliot looked at him gaping, and laughed cheerfully:

“It costs money to hire someone to cast spells, don’t you know?

—The materials needed for the *Copying Technique* are paper and ink. I’ll waive the material fee since you’re copying for the Magic Tower. Oh, I’ll also waive the consulting fee for the previous question.

Two *Copying Techniques*, I’ll give you a 50% discount. That’s ten gold coins in total. Payment received, I’ll cast the spell immediately.”

    Gretel was speechless.

Yesterday, that *Comprehend Language* spell was cast by Elliot himself because he wanted to be lazy. He didn’t ask him for money. But now he was asking for help, paying was obviously right—

In the game, you have to pay to speed up construction!

The problem was, ten gold coins was half of his current assets. Spending that much to save ten days or a month, seemed to be a really bad deal in terms of cost-effectiveness…

“Kid, you’re trying to save time, aren’t you! Don’t worry, take your time copying and memorizing, a solid foundation in *Magical Script* will benefit you.”

    Lawmaster Elliot laughed and left.

Not many chapters left, I’m trembling with fear, trying to write as fast as I can.
