After agreeing, Xu Zhizhi felt like she was straying from her main duties and began to recall Qin Su’s instructions. He had told her to be cautious, suggesting she should not expose herself too much and let others handle the bigger issues.

After some thought, Xu Zhizhi looked at the other party, found a spot to sit down, and carefully read through the contract before signing it. As a freshly graduated lawyer, she needed to learn to be prudent when facing people with ulterior motives. Being an actor in the entertainment industry was a good profession; she couldn’t allow a fleeting interest to lead her into a criminal gang—such recklessness was not something she could afford.

Initially, Qin Su and the Beijing City Police Department had been keeping an eye on her due to her troubling skills. After much contemplation, Xu Zhizhi decided to abandon this risky idea. After signing the contract, she moved to a corner and sent Qin Su a detailed message about this matter. She mentioned that the other party wanted to deceive her by drawing a counterfeit currency master copy and thought this would serve as a notification to Qin Su.

Naturally, Xu Zhizhi had no intention of creating such a thing; there were too many possibilities for manipulation, and even a minor mistake could render it useless. No matter how clever the deception, unless Qin Su could guarantee it, she would never really attempt to draw counterfeit currency. As for the profits? They could not control that!

However, to guard against any potential framing, she planned to create some minor errors that the camera wouldn’t catch.

“Is it still cold?” Lin Yu approached Xu Zhizhi and asked.

Xu Zhizhi shook her head, “Not anymore. I can handle this temperature, but in a couple of months, it’ll be a bit challenging.” Winter was unbearably cold.

“I’ll ask around some more on how others keep warm on set,” Lin Yu nodded, saying she’d discussed ideas with other assistants, and would arrange warmth measures for Xu Zhizhi.

“I saw the producer looking for you. Are they sure about having you personally create the counterfeit currency master copy needed for the film?” After Lin Yu returned from refilling Xu Zhizhi’s hot water, she noticed Xu was already examining the contract.

After a moment’s thought, Lin Yu didn’t want to interrupt.

Xu Zhizhi replied with a “Hmm,” and then stated, “Yes, they confirmed it. I’ll be on site throughout.”

Following the production team’s norms, certain routine tasks, like fight sequences and calligraphy, wouldn’t need additional pay. However, because what she was doing didn’t require her involvement, they had to hire professionals to work for ten days to half a month.

Since Xu Zhizhi accepted this payment, she was expected to create a master copy that could withstand the scrutiny of the camera. This would require a great deal of extra time from the actors, hence the additional contract and payment for her work.

This should be at Director Zhou’s behest; typically, a producer would try to save costs rather than spend on such endeavors. Yet Xu Zhizhi guessed that the behind-the-scenes figures had certain expectations of her, but she didn’t know what methods they might use to compel her.

For Xu Zhizhi, as long as she refused, nothing bad would happen. She could secretly bend the rules while still receiving what was an appreciable amount of remuneration. Strangely, the money made from her skills was both legitimate and somewhat gray, which took her by surprise. The important thing was that this gray avenue was legitimate, and everyone was aware of it.

Xu Zhizhi felt a sense of satisfaction; if this group of people could be taken down by Qin Su together with the local police, that would be even better. Then, she wouldn’t have to worry at all, and the victims of counterfeit currency could finally have some closure.

Xu Zhizhi thought well of it, but she hadn’t fully realized that many gifts would silently have their prices marked.

After sitting for a while, Xu Zhizhi started her scene. Mainly set in the dormitory and an empty area, there were more staff on site than during previous productions.

When Xu Zhizhi took the stage alone, she inevitably felt a little nervous. After two failed attempts, she finally completed the scene.

Next came the scenes inside a factory, but that would have to wait until tomorrow; all filming tasks for the day were completed.

At 1 AM, Qin Su replied, calming Xu Zhizhi’s nerves about filming and assuring her that they were speeding up their investigation for the remaining matters. He added that she should not get involved.

Xu Zhizhi looked at those five words and began typing on her phone.

Zhizhi for those who don’t know: Got it, be cautious! Listen, the Beijing City Police are still keeping tabs on you.

Qin Su: Hope you understood these words.

Zhizhi for those who don’t know: I will, I will.

With that thought, she washed up and closed her eyes to sleep, having exerted a lot of energy both physically and mentally throughout the day.

Xu Zhizhi awoke in the middle of the night with a nightmare, her eyes snapping open in shock.

She stared blankly at the illuminated night light for a while before calming down.

In her dream, she had seen the end of the college entrance examination in her previous life, her father dragging her away from school, insisting she marry for a hefty dowry.

Although some kind-hearted people had offered her sponsorship, the living expenses during high school were quite high. Knowing that other people’s money didn’t just fall from the sky, she yearned to save for college, cutting back on food and eventually making her weak and frail.

So when that big hand grabbed her hair and collar, draggi
