“Only twenty more days until the school celebration, and I heard that Fang Yusi will be coming from Hong Kong. I’ll dance with her then, maybe I can even get her autograph,” Ling Jing said casually as she sat on the bed, changing into her clothes.
“Ah, Fang Yusi, that has-been celebrity?” Jia Ming laughed as he walked out of the kitchen, holding a banana and gazing at Ling Jing’s half-exposed body. “I’d rather have your autograph, Ling Jing. You’re more likely to increase in value, and anyone with eyes can see that you’re the only one who can’t compare to her in terms of chest size. But you’re still young, and she’s already old…”
“Heh, Fang Yusi isn’t a has-been at all,” Ling Jing shot back, laughing. “I heard she’s only twenty years old, and both I and Sha Sha like her. Right, Sha Sha?”
Sha Sha, who was lying on the bed, mumbled sleepily, “Let me sleep a bit more…”
As Ling Jing finished getting dressed, Sha Sha suddenly sat up and said, “Ling Jing, I didn’t finish my math homework yesterday. I wrote it down in my notebook; can you help me with it?”
Ling Jing was taken aback, “Huh? You said you finished it last night before playing games, and we even fought over the remote control…”
“Don’t scold me,” Sha Sha covered her ears, revealing a lazy and playful smile. “Please, Ling Jing, we’re like family.”
The sight of Sha Sha’s smile, which could captivate many men, had no effect on Ling Jing. She picked up a pillow and threw it at Sha Sha, who caught it and hugged it tightly, continuing to sleep.
Outside, the gray sky was slowly brightening, and the sound of a rooster’s crowing could be heard in the distance. Jia Ming was busy in the kitchen, preparing breakfast.
As Ling Jing washed her face and brushed her teeth, she asked Sha Sha, “Where did you put your math homework?”
“I don’t know, find it yourself…” Sha Sha mumbled, prompting Ling Jing to roll her eyes and search for the homework in the book pile on the sofa.
“Jia Ming, I remember Sha Sha is older than us, right?” Ling Jing asked.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Jia Ming replied.
“Why do I feel like I’m her mom? This math problem is giving me a headache, Sha Sha you’re going to drive me crazy… You should just change your name to Sha Sha the stupid…”
The room was filled with laughter and the sound of Sha Sha’s playful grunts as she ran out of the room, still half-asleep. She jumped onto the sofa and hugged Ling Jing from behind, “Thanks, Mom Ling Jing…”
The morning was filled with noise, chaos, warmth, and freshness. Meanwhile, in a certain dormitory room in school, the day began differently. A girl woke up at 3:30 am, washed her face, and began her daily routine of meditation.
In the quiet room, the only sound was the girl’s gentle breathing and the faint noise of the wind outside. She was a rare Japanese student, and her dormitory was usually empty, so she didn’t need to turn on the lights. She sat on the bed, surrounded by darkness, doing her daily routine with ease.
After finishing her meditation, she got dressed and went for a slow jog outside the school gates. She ran past Jia Ming, Ling Jing, and Sha Sha’s small apartment, then returned to school for a simple martial arts training session.
As she ran, the sky was still dark, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of spring rain. She felt carefree and relaxed, enjoying the morning jog.
However, when she reached the hotel entrance, a handsome man, Zhang Jian Feng, came out of the car and offered her an umbrella. “Do you need an umbrella, Miss? I have a VIP card for this hotel, and I can ask them to buy one for you.”
But the girl’s response was a cold silence, as if she had been splashed with cold water. Ten seconds, twenty seconds passed, and Zhang Jian Feng felt awkward, thinking that the girl was mute.
Finally, the girl replied, “Thanks, but no need.”
“Oh, it’s okay. I was just trying to help,” Zhang Jian Feng said with a smile.
The next minute or so was awkward, with no response from the girl. She gazed out at the rain, as if lost in thought, and didn’t even glance at Zhang Jian Feng, who felt embarrassed.
As the girl walked away, Zhang Jian Feng watched her go, feeling a sense of defeat. He had approached her because of her beauty, but her reaction made him feel like he had been rejected.
Recently, he had experienced a series of setbacks, possibly due to the financial crisis. After Ling Jing quit her job at his “North Europe Fantasy” company in February, he had been in a low mood. Although his affection for Ling Jing was not that intense, he still felt frustrated because he couldn’t get what he wanted.
As the girl walked into the hotel lobby, she was surrounded by the warm light of the hotel’s decorations. She approached the counter and said, “I want to buy an umbrella.”
The service staff smiled and replied, “We can buy an umbrella for you, but you need to be a hotel guest or have a VIP card.”
The girl frowned, and the woman wearing a purple-tinted glasses behind her seemed to be in a bad mood, whispering to the middle-aged man beside her, “Still a student, and she thinks this is a convenience store…”
Zhang Jian Feng smiled and took out his VIP card, “I have a VIP card; can you help us?”
But before he finished speaking, the girl pulled out a small white wallet and poured out several colorful cards and coins, including a rough-looking library card. The woman behind her seemed about to laugh, but then looked surprised.
As the girl carefully picked up the scattered cards and money, she seemed troubled.
