by adminChapter 32: Harry and Ron Caught During a Nighttime Stroll
Hermione gave Andy a strange look. “Why are you so familiar with this sort of thing? What have you been through all these years?”
Andy was reading a letter. Malfoy had already contacted Lucius Malfoy (his father), and unsurprisingly, the elder Malfoy had approved the plan. Malfoy had been trying to contact Slytherin’s upperclassmen; they were also interested in the plan, and things went smoothly at first. However, things quickly spiraled out of Malfoy’s control.
In Slytherin House, Malfoy wasn’t the only one whose father was a school governor. Once they learned about it, they naturally ignored a first-year like Malfoy. That’s why Malfoy wrote to Andy for help; he wanted to regain control of the situation.
“That’s so typical Slytherin!” Andy chuckled, shaking his head. The letter turned to ash and dissipated in the air.
Andy turned towards the Slytherin table and made eye contact with Malfoy. Malfoy seemed more cautious; he just nodded slightly before looking away.
“What did he say?” Hermione asked, a little huffily.
She had already written a complaint letter to Dumbledore, and to Andy’s surprise, Dumbledore replied very quickly. He frankly admitted that he would replace the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor next year, but this year’s appointment was already decided. Before Quirrell made any mistakes, it was difficult to dismiss him without reason.
In Andy’s opinion, Dumbledore’s reply wasn’t perfunctory. (Andy didn’t know about the curse.) But Andy couldn’t wait another year. He only had seven years of study time, and every year was crucial. A year’s delay meant missing out on a significant amount of knowledge.
“It’s nothing serious, just some power struggle within Slytherin,” Andy explained the contents of the letter to Hermione, then said, “How about we go to the library? I need to write back to Malfoy.”
“Let’s go!” Hermione picked up a stack of books and headed towards the library.
The Hogwarts library was a treasure trove. Andy found many books on magical theory and learned all sorts of small spells. Many of these spells weren’t commonly used; some might never be used in a lifetime. But Andy still mastered them.
These spells might be useless to others, but for Andy, they could accelerate the increase of the red liquid within his system’s orb. At home, it took Andy half a month to gain one potential point; but after coming to Hogwarts – based on his practice these days – he found he only needed ten days. The progress improved significantly.
His progress in Transfiguration was especially noticeable. Since taking Professor McGonagall’s class, even without looking at his system, Andy could feel his improvement. Professor McGonagall’s explanations were incredibly detailed, going beyond the textbook; this knowledge greatly helped Andy.
That’s why Andy desperately hoped the school would quickly replace Professor Quirrell.
Finding a quiet corner in the library, Andy picked up his quill to write back to Malfoy. The problem Malfoy faced wasn’t a problem at all in Andy’s eyes. He only needed to subtly hint that this matter would involve Dumbledore, and those young witches and wizards wouldn’t dare to touch it. Not everyone had the guts of Lucius Malfoy to directly confront Dumbledore.
After finishing the letter, Andy put it in his robe pocket, planning to send it to Malfoy via the school owl after lunch.
“Did you hear?” Hermione whispered as Andy finished writing.
Andy: “?” What did I hear?
Hermione said, “Last night, Gryffindor’s Potter and Weasley were caught sneaking around, and they reportedly entered the corridor on the fourth floor…”
At this point, Hermione rolled her eyes at Andy. “The very place where you wanted to suffer an accident and die a painful death.”
“Your memory is too good,” Andy retorted, then curiously asked, “How were they caught?”
The movie did have this scene; Harry and Ron even saw Fluffy (the three-headed dog) in that corridor. This was the main reason why Andy didn’t dare to go there. While Andy might argue with Dumbledore, he wouldn’t dare to actually take action. After all, Andy didn’t want to suffer an accident, let alone die a painful death.
“I heard it was Mr. Filch who caught them,” Hermione shook her head, then said pointedly, “Professor McGonagall was furious and deducted sixty points from Gryffindor. So I hope you can give up that idea.”
“Of course!” Andy shrugged. “I don’t want to die a painful death… Psst! Don’t talk, Madam Pince is noticing us.”
Hermione quickly lowered her head to read.
Andy read while reminiscing, what kind of accident caused Ron and Harry, those two unlucky fellows, to be caught?
Uh… Andy suddenly remembered that in the movie, Hermione used Alohomora (the unlocking charm) to open the room at the end of the corridor on the fourth floor. As for Harry and Ron – they didn’t know Alohomora.
So brave! Andy could only say that the two Gryffindors were really something – they dared to sneak out at night without even knowing a few spells. But then again, without Hermione, Harry and Ron probably couldn’t even get past the Devil’s Snare, right?
But thankfully, if Andy’s plan succeeded, perhaps he could prevent Harry and Ron from being strangled by the Devil’s Snare. Uh… without Hermione, Harry and Ron might not even know about the Philosopher’s Stone. Then nothing would have started!
Hehe. Andy suddenly wanted to see Dumbledore’s expression after hearing this. The legendary savior wouldn’t even know Alohomora! It really was “Hermione and Her Two Useless Men”!
Andy glanced at Hermione, and Hermione looked back.
“What are you looking at?” Hermione asked, a little annoyed. “Just read your book, why are you looking at me?”
“I just thought… uh… what are you reading?”
Andy took the book Hermione was reading, finding it was a book about flying.
“Give it back!” Hermione snatched the book back, blushing.
Andy laughed, remembering Hermione’s clumsy attempts in yesterday afternoon’s flying lesson – she only dared to fly at a height of two meters.
“Don’t laugh!” Hermione’s face turned red.
“If you want to practice your flying skills, I can help you!” Seeing Hermione about to pounce, Andy quickly added, “I know an upperclassman, he’s a member of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, I can borrow a flying broom from him.”
