Chapter 45: Give Professor Quirrell Back to Us

After talking with Dumbledore, Andy’s pursuit of magic was undoubtedly strengthened. Those conversations, while seemingly unrelated to magic, pointed Andy in a new direction. We learn magic, use magic, and utilize magic. But ultimately, we must return to the essence of all magic—magical power.

Wizards age and die, but as long as they wish to live, magical power can make their bodies ‘appear’ healthy and allow them free movement. This again proved that the power of the mind can influence magical power. Coupled with Obscurials—the product of dark emotions merging with magical power—it all seemed to prove to Andy that the fusion of mental strength and magical power was the ultimate answer to magic.

    But…

    “What do I do?”

Andy’s magical power had become increasingly stable. His experiences in two lifetimes meant his emotions rarely fluctuated wildly.

    “Sigh—”

Andy pulled the covers over his head and went to sleep! This problem was unsolvable in the short term. But Hogwarts’ millennia of magical knowledge, and Andy’s own system, surely one of them could help solve this.

The next day, September 16th, Monday.

As soon as Andy arrived in the Great Hall, he saw that the teachers’ table was already full, even Dumbledore had arrived early. The Great Hall was silent, the young witches and wizards listlessly ate breakfast, occasionally glancing towards the teachers’ table.

Except for major holidays and the opening feast, professors generally didn’t eat in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. House-elves would thoughtfully deliver their three meals a day to their offices. Today was an ordinary day, yet all the Hogwarts professors and the Headmaster were gathered in the Great Hall—clearly, something big was about to be announced.

The young witches and wizards had already guessed the answer. Quirrell, who had also guessed the answer, was slumped in a corner, silently awaiting his fate.

“Let’s eat first,” Hermione said softly, sensing the atmosphere in the Great Hall.

Walking to the Ravenclaw table, Andy found many young witches and wizards had finished their meal but were reluctant to leave. Clearly, they didn’t want to miss the final act. This was the result of the collective efforts of all the students in the school.

After all the students finished breakfast, Dumbledore stood up and walked to the podium. He looked around, and all the students focused their attention on him. At this moment, the Great Hall was silent.

“Unfortunately!” Dumbledore announced, “Professor Quirrell is leaving us due to personal reasons. Your new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor will arrive in early October…”

    “Ohhhhh!!!”

    “We did it! Amazing!”

    “This is our victory!”

    “…”

A cheer erupted in the Great Hall; all the young witches and wizards were ecstatic. Especially those from Slytherin; they had spearheaded this, it was their victory. Andy saw Malfoy being tossed in the air by cheering Slytherin students.

No one paid attention to Quirrell, the man huddled quietly in the corner, awaiting his fate.

    “Quiet!”

After the cheers subsided, Dumbledore used a Sonorus Charm to silence the crowd. He continued, “Until your new professor arrives, Defence Against the Dark Arts for years one to three will be taught by—Professor Severus Snape.”

    “…”

The Great Hall fell instantly silent.

“Give us Professor Quirrell back!” A roar of anger came from the Gryffindor table. It sounded like Fred, or perhaps George.

“We can have Professor McGonagall, or Professor Flitwick!” This was Harry’s voice.

Andy thought the next week wouldn’t be easy for those few.

The Gryffindor students vehemently opposed this, and the Great Hall erupted into noise again. Andy looked around, pulled Hermione to cover himself, cleared his throat to disguise his voice, moved slightly towards the Gryffindor table, and shouted, “Make Professor McGonagall Headmistress!”

    Whoa—

As soon as these words were uttered, the Great Hall fell into an uproar, then instantly silent. Students from all three houses looked towards Gryffindor, trying to see which brave student dared to rebel in front of Dumbledore.

Professor McGonagall’s face darkened. She glared fiercely at George and Fred—although she didn’t see who shouted that, she strongly suspected George and Fred.

Hermione squeezed Andy’s waist hard. The young witch pursed her lips and glared at Andy, considering whether to hand him over.

    “Quiet!”

Dumbledore used the Sonorus Charm again. He arranged for other year levels’ substitute teachers, then said, “Alright, children, you should go to your classes now.”

The matter of Snape’s substitution was clearly settled, and Gryffindor finally realized—what had they just done?

George and Fred looked distraught, Harry’s face was pale; they felt they might not survive the day.

There was another person who was equally distraught, pale, and unable to even stand.

    Quirinus Quirrell!

Leaning against the wall, he sobbed dejectedly, his body trembling uncontrollably, as if feeling immense fear, as if he were about to die the next second.

Hermione felt some pity. “Should we comfort Professor Quirrell?”

    “No!”

Andy quickly stopped her. “Professor Dumbledore will comfort him; we don’t need to interfere.”

Hermione glared at Andy. “It’s all because of you!”

“There are many unfortunate people in this world; we can’t help everyone,” Andy comforted her. “We should trust Headmaster Dumbledore; he might have already found Quirrell a new job.”

The name Dumbledore was very reassuring. Hearing Andy say this, Hermione stopped worrying.

    “Let’s go!”

Andy shrugged. “We have two Potions lessons with Hufflepuff this morning. I think Professor Snape’s mood might not be very good, should we comfort Professor Snape?”

At this, Hermione was also indignant. “The Gryffindors are too much! Professor Snape is strict, but he’s knowledgeable and dedicated in his teaching. How can they say that?”

    “Exactly!” Andy nodded in agreement.

Today’s Snape had clearly transformed into Super Snape; Andy felt he wouldn’t be satisfied until he deducted points from Gryffindor to negative numbers. However, in Hermione’s eyes, today’s Snape might just be even more strictly responsible!

During potion-making, Snape exuded a dark aura, running back and forth for two consecutive lessons, sternly pointing out the students’ incorrect operations. He was almost scolding them to their faces, calling them “troglodyte brains.”
