Hogwarts: This Wizard is Unscientific 47
by adminChapter 47: Andy: I’m Such a Brilliant Young Wizard
September 19th, Thursday.
Andy woke up half an hour earlier than usual today. He meticulously groomed himself in the bathroom, even using hair gel to style a new hairdo.
“Perfect!”
Looking at himself in the mirror, Andy was extremely satisfied.
How could there be such a handsome person in the world?
“Merlin must have bestowed all the best things in the world upon me. It’s truly troublesome.”
After changing his clothes, Andy left the dormitory and found a sofa to sit on in the common room.
Their relationship having grown closer, Andy and Hermione had gotten used to going to the Great Hall together for meals, the first one to leave always waiting for the other.
It was a coincidence, really.
Besides each other, Andy and Hermione had virtually no friends they could really connect with. Even their roommates were only acquaintances.
So, a few days ago, Andy decided to throw Hermione a birthday party.
Ravenclaws had four classes on Thursdays.
However, due to a schedule change, Defense Against the Dark Arts was moved to the afternoon.
This meant there was roughly three hours of free time between 10:20 am and 2:00 pm.
More than enough!
“Morning!”
After sitting in the common room for a while, Hermione emerged from the girls’ dormitory, wearing her Hogwarts uniform, a stack of books in her arms, and her hair looking a little messy.
“Why are you up so early?” Hermione was surprised. Usually, she waited for Andy; it was rare to see him up this early.
“Probably didn’t sleep well last night!”
Andy gave a perfunctory reply, then stood up and said, “Let’s go, I have a lot to do today.”
After breakfast, they finished their homework in the Great Hall, followed by Charms class, which they shared with Gryffindor.
The pace for the younger wizards was slow, and the Charms class content was almost useless to Andy.
Fortunately, Professor Flitwick was very kind and also the Head of Ravenclaw, willingly answering Andy’s questions unrelated to the curriculum.
This was the main reason Andy was enthusiastic about attending classes.
Professor McGonagall was also helpful, though stricter, she wasn’t stingy with extra guidance for Andy.
While Andy could learn by himself from books, much of the content was obscure. With Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick’s explanations, Andy’s learning progress sped up considerably.
If only Professor Snape could be like that.
Andy decided to give Professor Snape a gift at Christmas to improve their relationship. After all, Andy wasn’t a Gryffindor, so he wouldn’t usually be targeted by Snape.
“Alright, that’s all for this lesson!”
Upon hearing Professor Flitwick announce the end of class, Hermione immediately gathered her books and suggested, “Let’s practice magic. I want to try the spellcasting technique Professor Flitwick just taught.”
“Great!”
Andy had no objections. “But that classroom on the sixth floor is a bit small. I discovered a new secret base the other day, I’ll take you there!”
“I don’t think it’s small?”
Hermione was a little puzzled, but didn’t object. “Then let’s go have a look!”
“Follow me!” Andy said, leading Hermione away from the Charms classroom.
“Andy——”
A shout came from behind, sounding like Ron. Andy pretended not to hear, pulling Hermione into a corridor.
“Someone called you.” Hermione said.
“Did they? I didn’t hear anything.”
Andy feigned amnesia, “Don’t worry about it. Even if it’s something important, it can wait a bit.”
Leading Hermione to the third floor of the castle, Andy stopped in front of the one-eyed witch statue.
“This is the place. Look carefully, there’s a mechanism here.”
Andy spoke, and tapped the statue lightly with his wand, chanting, “Left and right, separate!”
Click click!
The entrance to the passage slowly opened.
“There’s a secret passage here!?”
Hermione gasped, covering her mouth. “We should tell a professor about this!”
Andy: …
Okay, that’s very Hermione.
Flicking Hermione’s forehead, Andy said exasperatedly, “Do you think the professors don’t know about this? They do! But Hogwarts’ secret passages are for young wizards to have adventures in. Maybe this passage was even built by Helena Ravenclaw.”
“Ouch!”
Hermione clutched her forehead, glaring fiercely at Andy.
Andy continued to deceive, “Don’t look at all the rules in Hogwarts. The real rule is only one: Don’t get caught doing bad things.”
“It’s a kind of training for young wizards.”
“For example, this secret passage. Once we have experience exploring secret passages, exploring ancient ruins after graduation won’t be so daunting.”
Hermione: …
She felt Andy was deceiving her.
But thinking about the stairs in the castle, it didn’t seem unreasonable to say that this secret passage was built by Ravenclaw.
Andy looked at Hermione with a sincere expression, “Trust me!”
Hermione: I won’t!
It’s really hard to believe you. You wouldn’t be trying to trick me into looking at goldfish, would you?
After hesitating for a while, Hermione decided to go in and have a look.
“If there are any dangerous mechanisms in the passage, we must tell a professor.” Hermione said.
After sliding down a stone staircase for about ten minutes, Andy and Hermione reached the bottom.
Going up the stairs and pushing open the trapdoor led them to the Honeydukes cellar.
“Let’s go up.”
Andy nodded to Hermione and went up first.
Hermione followed cautiously behind Andy, her wand tightly gripped in her hand. Whether she held the wand for protection or to give Andy a nasty surprise was unclear.
Andy opened the trapdoor and looked in.
Good, there was nobody in the cellar.
“Hermione, come up!”
Andy pulled Hermione out of the trapdoor, used a Disillusionment Charm to make them invisible, and then stealthily slipped out of the cellar.
Before anyone noticed, Andy pulled Hermione and quickly ran out of Honeydukes.
“Welcome to Hogsmeade!”
Andy smiled at Hermione, “This is the only purely wizarding village in the whole of Britain, with many fun places.”
“Want to go to the tea room?”
Hermione looked at Andy, she was hesitating between Stunning him or Petrifying him.
“Thank you!” Hermione suddenly rushed over and hugged Andy.
“Happy birthday, Hermione!” Andy said softly.
Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop was a major feature of Hogsmeade.
Its fame didn’t come from elegant decor or delicious food. It was famous because—Hogsmeade only had this one tea shop.
It had no competition.
Andy led Hermione along Hogsmeade’s main street to the corner, “Let’s get something to eat here first!”
