Hogwarts: This Wizard is Unscientific 54
by adminChapter 54: Snape Shows a Surprisingly Human Side
The entire castle buzzed with excitement the following morning. Young witches and wizards whispered amongst themselves about Malfoy’s attack the previous night, frantically seeking any information they could find. Slytherins who had visited Malfoy in the hospital wing reported that he had been targeted by a particularly dark and evil magic.
This revelation sent shockwaves through the student body. Harry and Ron using dark magic? The rumor spread like wildfire, fueled by imaginative speculation. After all, Harry Potter, the boy who lived, the one who defeated Voldemort—how else could he have triumphed over the most evil Dark Lord in history? Of course, it had to be dark magic! The explanation fit perfectly.
Suddenly, students scattered whenever Harry and Ron approached, as if fearing an imminent attack.
“S-sorry!” a trembling Gryffindor stammered, standing before Harry and Ron. “I shouldn’t have refused to lend you my homework last week. Here’s this week’s…” He nervously handed over his assignment.
Initially irritated by the widespread misunderstanding, Ron quickly began to relish the situation. Everyone was afraid of them! He snatched the homework. “Good…” he began, before a chilling voice cut him off.
“I never thought our celebrated savior, Harry Potter…and his sidekick, would resort to copying homework.” Snape’s voice dripped with sarcasm. His eyes, cold and empty, swept over Harry and Ron. “Five points from each of you! If you’re trying to garner attention with fabricated lies…I suggest Dumbledore expel you both from Hogwarts.”
Harry and Ron bristled with anger. They felt whoever attacked Malfoy should have also taken care of Snape.
Andy watched this unfold while enjoying his breakfast. This was truly entertaining. Noticing Snape glance in his direction, Andy waved.
Snape: “…” This kid’s been a little too cocky lately.
Snape approached, deciding to cause Andy some trouble.
“Hey, Professor, had breakfast? Want to share?” Andy greeted him familiarly.
Snape stared coldly. If he wasn’t already reformed from being a Death Eater, he would have taught Andy a lesson.
Andy sighed with regret. Snape’s prickly personality made him difficult to deal with.
“You should be more careful these days,” Snape said flatly.
“Uh…” Andy paused, confused. What? Are you going to cause me trouble? So blatant?
Snape’s voice was soft, almost casual. “That trick to get rid of Quirrell…you taught Malfoy that, didn’t you?”
Andy’s eyes flickered. So, you’re warning me?
“Thank you, Professor, I will be careful!” Andy said gratefully.
Unexpectedly, Snape, who seemed so sinister and cruel, showed a surprising degree of concern. His previous warnings to Harry and Ron also indicated a desire to prevent them from saying anything foolish. It’s just…his attitude could be a bit abrasive.
Snape stared at Andy with a peculiar expression. Did this kid know?
Snape had indeed come to warn Andy to be cautious. Quirrell would soon be entangled with Malfoy, and if Quirrell learned anything from Malfoy, he might retaliate against Andy in a fit of rage. But this kid…
Andy’s grateful expression suggested he already knew Quirrell was trouble. How did he know?
Andy blinked innocently, feigning cluelessness. “Professor, do you mean Quirrell attacked Malfoy? But…didn’t Professor Quirrell leave Hogwarts?”
Snape’s voice was light. “He’ll find a way, won’t he?”
Andy avoided Snape’s gaze. “I see! I’ll be careful. Thank you, Professor.”
Snape remained silent. The boy even knew to avoid eye contact, preventing Legilimency. He was clearly no ordinary student!
“Severus!” A voice called. Andy turned. It was a man, about thirty-five, with platinum blonde hair resembling Malfoy’s.
“Lucius!” Snape glanced at Andy before turning towards the Great Hall entrance, Lucius Malfoy quickly following.
“Whew…” Hermione finally breathed a sigh of relief, leaning towards Andy. “Andy, what did Professor Snape mean? Was Quirrell really behind Malfoy’s attack?” She had overheard parts of their conversation.
“If Professor Snape says so, maybe,” Andy didn’t hide anything; a little caution for the young witch wouldn’t hurt.
Hermione was puzzled. “But how did he do it?”
“How would I know?” Andy shrugged. “I can’t believe Quirrell would do something like that—attack a first-year.”
“And…” Andy lowered his voice, “If Quirrell had the capability, why didn’t he just teach us properly?”
Hermione gasped. “You mean…he came to Hogwarts with ulterior motives?”
“Uh-huh!” Andy tilted his head. “That’s why Professor Snape warned me.”
Hermione declared confidently, “If Quirrell learned something from Malfoy, then his next target—is you!” She looked at Andy with worry, as if he were about to die.
“No, we have to tell a professor!” Hermione grabbed Andy, ready to seek out Professor Flitwick.
“The professors already know,” Andy pulled her back. “Professor Snape is the one who warned me, remember?”
Hermione immediately relaxed. “Hogwarts has Dumbledore; you’re safe as long as you stay in Hogwarts.”
Malfoy was attacked just last night. Safe my foot!
Andy rolled his eyes, not bothering to argue with her. Quirrell’s plan was clear, and from Snape’s reaction, Dumbledore clearly suspected Quirrell’s intentions. Therefore, they just needed to be cautious.
“Alright, let’s eat. Don’t worry about it,” Andy said indifferently. “I’ll be careful and won’t give Quirrell a chance to attack me.”
