Hogwarts: This Wizard is Unscientific 55
by adminChapter 55: My Grand Summoning Technique Doesn’t Work Anymore?
Andy and Hermione, having finished breakfast, headed towards the library. There were no classes scheduled for the morning.
“Andy, watch out for that corner ahead. I’ll go first, you stay behind me.”
Along the way, Andy finally understood what it meant to be paranoid. Hermione constantly felt someone was about to attack Andy. If someone suddenly appeared around a corner, she’d quickly draw her wand and shield Andy.
A little silly, a little funny, but also quite adorable. Andy watched with amusement.
Once they reached the library, Hermione finally realized, “Wasn’t I being a bit silly?”
“No!” Andy shook his head, denying it. “Not silly at all. I’m touched.”
Touched my foot!
Hermione glared at Andy, snorted, and walked into the library.
Due to the recent attacks, the library was crowded with people desperately seeking protective spells in books. People were even selling amulets on campus; supposedly, the Weasley twins made a killing (became very rich) from it.
Andy and Hermione picked out a few books and found a quiet corner to sit.
“What are you reading? ‘Innovative Charms’?” Hermione asked curiously. “Andy, are you planning to create your own spell?”
“Where would I have the skill for that?” Andy laughed. “This book has Professor Dumbledore’s papers from his younger days. Pretty interesting.”
“Let me see!” Hermione leaned closer.
Unlike the calm and benevolent Dumbledore they knew, this paper revealed a rather radical young Dumbledore, particularly in his approach to magic—the paper even mentioned several dark arts spells.
Not only that, but Andy also discovered that Dumbledore had researched Obscurus (默默然) in his youth.
This coincided perfectly with Andy’s own interests. Andy was also very interested in Obscurus, but unfortunately, no Obscurals had been born in this era for a long time. Andy could only research them through existing records.
However, the descriptions of Obscurus in the books were repetitive and limited: evil, powerful, uncontrollable, consuming the host, and Obscurals rarely lived past ten. Most of the descriptions focused on the causes of Obscurus’ creation.
Since Dumbledore had studied Obscurus, his knowledge and insight might offer Andy some new inspiration.
Unfortunately, Andy hadn’t found an opportunity to ask Dumbledore about magic. After all, Dumbledore didn’t belong to Andy alone.
If only someone could put Dumbledore in a ring, then Andy could carry him around!
Old Dumbledore?
“Or… maybe another nighttime stroll tonight, to see if I can lure Dumbledore out?” Andy thought.
That’s settled then!
Andy made up his mind.
“Professor Dumbledore invented new spells while he was still a student!” Hermione said in awe. “He’s amazing! Don’t you think so, Andy?”
Indeed, this old man is not simple!
Dumbledore had also researched the Dark Arts when he was young, maybe he was even a Dark Arts master. Judging from Dumbledore’s attitude towards the Dark Arts, Andy thought he must have undergone a great epiphany before returning to the right path.
Probably with a heartbreaking past. The fact that Dumbledore never married spoke volumes.
Andy suspected that Dumbledore might have become obsessed with the Dark Arts, perhaps even killing his loved one, and only after a great awakening did he decide to dedicate his life to protecting the wizarding world.
Andy shared his speculation with Hermione, only to be met with a barrage of punches from the little witch. She refused to believe that Dumbledore would study the Dark Arts.
“No, look at this paper.” Andy presented the evidence. “How radical is this paper’s attitude towards magic? It even mentions several Dark Arts spells. I don’t believe Professor Dumbledore didn’t study the Dark Arts.”
Hermione snorted. “Professor Dumbledore must have used Dark Arts as examples to combat them.”
Fine! You don’t believe me, huh?
Andy decided to infiltrate the Restricted Section tonight and see if he could lure Dumbledore out. If he succeeded, great; if not… at least he could sneak a peek at some forbidden books – no harm done either way.
Afternoon.
Ravenclaw had Herbology and Flying lessons in the afternoon. Professor Pomona Sprout, Head of Hufflepuff, taught Herbology. At Hogwarts, professors might be lax, but those who become Headmasters are never simple characters.
Andy wasn’t particularly interested in Herbology, but he had a high aptitude for it. If the system had a Herbology attribute, Andy was sure he’d have a full score.
As for Flying, that was even more boring. Madam Hooch was skilled in flying and Quidditch, but her magical abilities were rather ordinary. Luckily, she only taught flying.
Andy’s flying talent was decent, but he didn’t particularly enjoy it. The only entertainment in Flying class was perhaps a certain brown-haired little witch.
Hermione had average flying skills and was also afraid of heights. Watching her nervously perched on her broom, barely managing to fly three meters off the ground, was highly amusing to Andy.
Hermione gritted her teeth in frustration, yet dared not fly up to chase Andy, only getting angrier and angrier. Even Madam Hooch advised her to give up.
After the last Flying lesson, the week’s classes were over. Tomorrow was Saturday, a perfect opportunity for Andy to sleep in. The nighttime library escapade was perfectly timed.
Night.
After his three roommates were asleep, Andy quietly got out of bed, changed his clothes, took his wand, and left the Ravenclaw dormitory. He used a Disillusionment Charm to become invisible, then familiarly made his way to the library, and finally opened the door with an Unlocking Charm…
Perfect infiltration!
Reaching the rope barrier of the Restricted Section, Andy took a deep breath and jumped over it.
“Hmm…” Andy waited.
Huh? Where’s Dumbledore? A young wizard is sneaking a look at forbidden books; Dumbledore, quickly stop him before he goes astray!
My Grand Summoning Technique doesn’t work anymore?
Andy retreated behind the rope, thinking, “Maybe once isn’t enough. I’ll probably have to try several times. Last time, it took several attempts before Dumbledore appeared.”
I came in, I went out, I came in, I went out, I came in, I went out…
Where’s Dumbledore?
If you don’t stop me, I’ll go astray!
Andy looked around suspiciously, but there was no sign of Dumbledore.
Andy: “…”
Andy decided to learn the Apparition Charm as soon as possible. Next time he wanted to see Dumbledore, he’d just—Apparate Dumbledore!
Hmm…
Since no one’s stopping me, I might as well sneak a peek at a few books.
