Hogwarts: This Wizard is Unscientific 62
by adminChapter 62: When You Meet an Enemy, Use the Killing Curse
“Don’t hold back.”
Andy quickly said, “I also want to test my current spellcasting level and see how big the gap is between me and an adult wizard.”
“Fine!”
Helena stood up and said, “Go play for a while. I’ll go check on the potion.”
“I’ll help you,” Andy said.
Helena waved her hand. “It’s just a regular potion; I’ve already finished processing it. You don’t need to add to the chaos.”
“If you really wanted to help, why didn’t you do it earlier?”
Andy: …
Speaking of which, it’s heartbreaking. After only three days back home for the holidays, Andy’s position as the “emperor” of his family has been downgraded to “prince.”
The speed of this change of heart is a bit too fast, isn’t it?
After waiting for about two hours, Helena came out with a vial.
After putting the vial away, Helena looked at Andy with anticipation, “Impatient? Come on!”
Following Helena outside, Andy stood to the side.
Seeing that Helena wasn’t making any moves, Andy raised an eyebrow and asked, “Don’t we need to prepare an arena or something?”
“No need to be so troublesome…”
Helena’s words were cut short as she suddenly drew her wand, pointing it at Andy.
“Flipendo!” (A charm that causes a target to flip upside down)
Andy felt an irresistible force acting on his entire body. His body uncontrollably flipped over, suspended upside down in the air by the magic.
Andy: …
“An arena? In a real fight, who’s going to prepare that for you?”
Helena used her wand to lower Andy, a smug look on her face. “Isn’t this spell impressive?”
“This spell was invented by Snape, and later learned by us Gryffindors. We even used it to teach Snape a lesson!”
Snape?
Andy’s face showed shock.
From what Helena said, could it be that Snape invented a new spell while he was still at Hogwarts?
“He invented it while he was still at school?” Andy asked.
“What’s so surprising about that?”
Helena waved her hand, with a ‘this is nothing’ attitude. “Didn’t I tell you? When we were at school, it was the peak of the Dark Lord’s power. Unlike you guys now, you have no pressure at all.”
Andy was still somewhat shocked.
That’s true, but Snape’s magical talent is also astonishing.
Inventing new magic while still at school isn’t something just anyone can do.
According to what Andy currently knows, only Dumbledore and Snape have achieved this.
However…
How did Snape become like this?
All he does is get on Harry’s nerves, seeming to enjoy it, as if it’s a lifelong pursuit.
Andy twitched the corner of his mouth and stopped thinking about it.
“Then I’ll begin!”
Andy drew his wand, starting with his currently strongest area-of-effect spell—the Incendio charm.
“Incendio!”
The flames condensed into a fire eagle and swooped towards Helena. Helena simply waved her wand, effortlessly extinguishing Andy’s spell.
“Stupefy!”
“Confringo!”
Andy cast spells consecutively, but Helena easily deflected them with her wand. She simply stood there, creating immense pressure on Andy.
Definitely different!
Andy could feel that Helena’s magical skill was more than one level above his.
Really strong!
And Helena doesn’t practice magic regularly; her current spellcasting ability is only slightly better than when she graduated.
Or it could be said that since Voldemort’s downfall, ordinary wizards in the magical world have stopped practicing magic.
Yet even Helena, an adult witch who hasn’t practiced magic for nearly ten years, could still overwhelm Andy—she didn’t even attack, just standing there made Andy feel he had nowhere to strike.
“Whew—”
Andy took a breath.
During the spellcasting, Andy kept moving his position.
Seeing a suitable angle, Andy tried his old trick.
“Aguamenti!” (Water jet spell, used here to propel a wooden stake)
Under the effect of the magic, a wooden stake slammed towards Helena’s back.
But Helena simply shifted her position slightly and effortlessly dodged the stake’s attack.
With a wave of her wand, the stake suddenly accelerated, crashing directly towards Andy.
“Reducto!”
BOOM!!!
With an explosion, the stake shattered.
“Okay, let’s stop,” Helena suddenly said.
“Huh?”
Andy was stunned. “I haven’t used my ultimate moves yet. Why stop suddenly?”
Helena: …
You don’t have any ultimate moves! If you did, you would have used them already.
Just like your grandfather, saving face until the very end.
“Andy, you focus too much on spellcasting technique,”
Helena said. “In a wizard duel, spellcasting technique is important, but the suddenness of the spell is also crucial.”
“Your current magic level only looks good… it’s very visually appealing, but it’s far from meeting the requirements of actual combat.”
Hearing Helena’s assessment, Andy wasn’t discouraged. After all, he had been learning magic for less than half a year; his current spellcasting level was already quite good.
Helena continued, “Conventional spells are easy to defend against, so… sometimes we need little tricks.”
Saying this, Helena raised her wand, pointing it at Andy.
“Stupefy!”
Andy calmed his mind, intending to deflect the spell like Helena did, but he found that the beam of magic was aimed at the ground beneath his feet.
And in that instant when Andy lowered his head, another beam of magic came, and Andy found himself suspended upside down in the air again by Helena.
“Do you understand now?”
Helena lowered Andy with a wave of her wand, saying, “This is just practice. Remember, some dark magic cannot be blocked even by Protego.” (The Shield Charm)
“So, in our time, students paid more attention to practical magic, and we Gryffindors often gathered to practice dueling.”
Andy nodded. “I understand roughly.”
This is the difference in combat experience!
And as Helena said, conventional magic is too easy to defend against. Protego can defend against most spells, and some quick wizards can even deflect spells with their wands.
Andy suddenly felt envious of Harry.
Harry is one of those wizards with excellent reflexes and eyesight, as seen in his Quidditch performance.
No wonder he’s the protagonist!
With Harry’s reflexes and eyesight, with just a little training, he could quickly become a dueling master.
“So how should I practice now?” Andy asked.
“Practice the way you used to,”
Helena put away her wand. “Unless you want to participate in a dueling competition, or become an Auror after graduation, you don’t need to specifically practice this.”
“Aurors have specialized training, and in private encounters with enemies, use the Killing Curse.”
“Get your fundamentals right, and learning this stuff later will be easy!”
