Chapter 7: Am I the Serpent of the Wizarding World?

With boundless anticipation for the future, Andy eagerly opened *Standard Spells: Beginner*.

    “Lumos!”

Andy, following the standard hand gestures described in the book, gently swished his wand and softly whispered the incantation. A faint light immediately emanated from the tip of the wand.

“This is the Lumos Charm? Surprisingly simple!”

The Lumos Charm, being the most basic of all charms, requires only that young wizards strictly follow the steps described in the book; failure is virtually impossible. Even if a young wizard’s brain is as thick as an ogre’s, they’ll succeed eventually after several attempts.

However, the textbook’s description of the Lumos Charm isn’t limited to just hand gestures and incantations. The book provides a comprehensive explanation of the charm, covering its magical principles, applicable situations, and the magical transformations achievable with proficiency—including, but not limited to, throwing the Lumos Charm. In short, as a first-year textbook, this book is undoubtedly up to par.

    “Haha! Andy, you’re done for!”

Isabelle suddenly laughed gleefully, “I heard young wizards can’t cast spells outside of school. You’re about to be expelled from Hogwarts!”

“Let me think, Andy, you’d be the first Hogwarts student ever expelled before even enrolling? Congratulations, you’ve made history!”

The little girl rolled around on the sofa, laughing.

“Idiot!” Andy retorted, *My foolish little sister!*

The Ministry of Magic, to prevent underage wizards from casting spells outside of school, first established the *Act for the Reasonable Restraint of Underage Wizards*, and then implemented ‘Trace Spells’ to monitor underage wizards’ spellcasting outside of school.

Thanks to the Collins family’s generations of testing the wizarding world’s laws, the so-called ‘Trace Spells’ are hardly a secret.

First, only Hogwarts students have Trace Spells monitoring them. Andy hasn’t officially enrolled yet.

Secondly, the functionality of ‘Trace Spells’ is not perfect. It’s area-based monitoring, primarily targeting Muggle-born wizards to prevent exposure of the wizarding world. For wizards from wizarding families, as long as an adult wizard is present, the Trace Spells are completely ineffective.

Of course, if no adult wizard is present, even a wizard from a wizarding family casting spells outside will be detected by the Ministry of Magic.

Ignoring Isabelle, Andy silently opened his system and then swished his wand.

    “Lumos!”

The red liquid in the orb seemed to have increased slightly compared to a month and a half ago, but Andy still didn’t understand the principle behind the increase.

Andy had a guess, but it was difficult to verify before.

“Is it related to the attribute prompts?”

With this question in mind, Andy continuously swished his wand.

    “Lumos!”

    “Lumos!”

After trying over ten times, Andy keenly noticed that the red liquid inside the orb seemed to have risen slightly. A very small increase, so small that Andy might not have noticed it if he hadn’t been observing carefully.

For five years, Andy hadn’t stopped researching the system. The system has ten attributes.

On the left: Charms, Transfiguration, Dark Arts, Alchemy, Divination.

On the right: Magic Power, Soul, Mind, Thought, Willpower.

Andy’s previous guess was that only by training and improving the abilities of the five attributes on the left could the red liquid in the orb be increased.

Over the years, Andy had tried various methods, but only obtained one potential point.

Practicing magic control wasn’t included in the ‘Charms’ attribute, and Andy couldn’t read books related to spellcasting before.

However, the red liquid in the orb still increased, even filling up once, giving Andy a potential point.

It was just a guess before. Now it’s confirmed.

In these five years, Andy had improved two attributes. The [Magic Power] attribute changed from [1] to [2], and the [Soul] attribute changed from [3] to [4]. Both were passive improvements.

Besides that, his originally unstable magic power gradually stabilized.

And the gradual stabilization of magic power essentially improved related abilities such as Charms, Transfiguration, and Dark Arts.

After trying countless methods, these are the last few possibilities Andy could think of.

“So next… is to learn spells, and then start practicing extensively.”

    In other words…

“If improving the abilities of the left-side attributes really increases the red liquid in the orb, then Dark Arts must be considered within the ‘learning scope’.”

I want to learn all the magic in the world.

    Understand the truth of magic.

    Pursue immortality and power.

My wand represents isolation, seclusion, longevity, and rebirth.

    “This persona is so familiar.”

    Andy mused.

“If I go to Slytherin, and get a bunch of snakes as pets, and when I fight people, I let the snakes bite them…”

Am I the Serpent of the Wizarding World?

Is there an unconcealable ambition in my eyes?

“Actually, on second thought, Slytherin seems pretty good.”

Slytherin House’s original symbol was: valuing ambition, leadership, cunning, determination, and resourcefulness. But with some rumors about Salazar Slytherin himself, Slytherin House became a symbol of pure-bloods.

“Forget it, the Sorting Hat thing, I’ll just go with the flow.”

In Andy’s opinion, the greatest treasure of Hogwarts was the library’s collection of books spanning thousands of years. Perhaps, this is also the greatest treasure of the wizarding world. As long as you learn the magic in those books, you will naturally become a powerful wizard.

In the evening, Kyle came home from work, and Helen had already prepared a sumptuous dinner. A faint aroma filled the living room.

“Andy, you must be thrilled today!”

Kyle said excitedly, “I haven’t asked yet, what material is your wand?”

“Pine, phoenix feather.” Andy, having practiced magic all afternoon, was exhausted.

“Not bad, phoenix feather wands are rare, but pine is ordinary.” Kyle is just an ordinary wizard; his judgment of wand quality is based solely on the wood and core.

Isabelle tattled, “Mom, Andy cast spells at home today.”

    “Be careful yourself.”

Helen looked at Andy and said, “If I’m not home, just read your books. Don’t just wave your wand around.”

    “Got it!” Andy nodded.

    “Speaking of…”

Kyle suddenly suggested, “Andy is of school age now, we should celebrate at home. Andy and Isabelle last saw their grandfather and maternal grandfather last Christmas.”

“What do you think?” Kyle turned to Helen.

“Mm! I’ll write them letters tomorrow then.” Helen readily agreed.

Andy looked at the three family members at the dinner table and suddenly felt that he still had some distance to go before he could embody the Serpent persona.
