Chapter 99: Dumbledore, You’ve Tricked Me Again!

Chapter 99: Dumbledore, You’ve Tricked Me Again!

As Voldemort’s spirit possessed Quirrell, the ropes binding him automatically fell away. Struggling to his feet, Quirrell picked up his wand which had fallen to the side. Brushing off the dirt, Quirrell stammered, “Master… Master, what do we do next…?”

    “Useless!”

Voldemort was inexplicably furious. If he had any other choice, he wouldn’t have chosen this incompetent fool. But Quirrell still had some use, so Voldemort could only force himself to endure his stupidity.

“Wait for them to come, then we’ll deal with him together!” Voldemort hissed, “We have to hurry, the hospital wing can’t hold off Dumbledore for too long.”

Quirrell breathed a sigh of relief and offered a flattering remark, “Master, you actually tricked Dumbledore…”

    “Shut up!”

Voldemort almost exploded with rage. What time is it? Instead of flattering me, why don’t you think of something useful? Truly, the worst Death Eater I’ve ever had.

“Dumbledore is the most hypocritical person in this world; we can easily deal with him by exploiting this weakness.”

Since Quirrell was his only remaining minion, Voldemort still explained it to him. He didn’t want Quirrell to remain clueless even after his death and go to hell confused.

    On the other side.

After Dumbledore’s phoenix Patronus flew out of the fourth-floor Restricted Section, the first person it encountered was Snape. Dumbledore hesitated. He wasn’t sure if Voldemort was using a feint, but Tom had indeed encountered trouble, and he had to go there personally to resolve it. Therefore, Voldemort might still be on the fourth floor. And Snape… if Snape still wanted to return to Voldemort’s side undercover, he absolutely couldn’t openly oppose Voldemort at this moment.

    “What’s wrong?” Snape asked, frowning.

Dumbledore’s voice came from the phoenix Patronus, “Quirrell went to the fourth-floor Restricted Section, Voldemort’s spirit should have gone to Tom’s side, I need to go check.”

“Go tell Minerva to go to the fourth floor and confine Quirrell. Be careful, Voldemort might still be on the fourth floor.”

Having said that, the phoenix Patronus was about to fly away to inform others. Although other professors had already made preparations, he still needed to check in person before he could rest assured, especially the young witches and wizards; at least one professor should go to each house.

    “Wait!”

Snape stopped the phoenix Patronus, hesitated for a moment, and then said, “I’ll go to the fourth-floor Restricted Section, when will you be back?”

Snape thought that if only Quirrell was in the fourth-floor Restricted Section, he could simply apprehend him. But if Voldemort was also there, he could get close to Voldemort again, laying the groundwork for future infiltration.

    “No!”

The phoenix Patronus refused without hesitation, “We can’t let Voldemort get help at this time.”

Going undercover is easy, but once Voldemort makes Snape work for him, Snape will be in a difficult position, possibly even leading to Voldemort’s premature resurrection. Dumbledore now only hoped to delay it for a few more years.

Snape’s face changed, “The Dark Lord would rather have me stay by your side, but you must come back soon.”

“…Five minutes!” The phoenix Patronus gave a time limit, then turned and flew away.

Snape went all the way to the fourth-floor Restricted Section.

The barriers of the Restricted Section couldn’t stop Quirrell, naturally, they couldn’t stop Snape either.

In front of the Mirror of Erised.

Snape saw Quirrell, and he also saw Voldemort possessing Quirrell.

Snape stopped, muttering in shock, “The Dark Lord…?”

“Severus, I never expected we would meet again in this way, in this place.”

Voldemort’s narrow, crimson pupils stared straight at Snape, “Look at me! Now I’m in this state, and the servant who once swore allegiance to me has become Dumbledore’s lapdog.”

Snape showed his fear, “Master, you were the one who ordered me to infiltrate Dumbledore’s side, all these years… I thought you were…”

“You thought I died that night ten years ago?”

Voldemort said coldly, “I’ve told you more than once that I’ve gone further down the path of preventing death than anyone else. As a result, I disappeared, and none of you came to find me.”

“I really thought you were dead.”

Snape explained, then looked at the Mirror of Erised, “Master, Dumbledore put the Philosopher’s Stone into the mirror. Only someone who wants the Philosopher’s Stone, but doesn’t want to use it, can get it.”

Voldemort sneered, “Dumbledore is still so hypocritical, only playing petty tricks.”

“Master?” Quirrell showed his presence. He understood; he felt that no one among the three present could obtain the Philosopher’s Stone.

    “Shut up!”

Seeing Snape, his excellent servant, Voldemort found Quirrell’s stupidity even more unbearable. People are afraid of comparisons. To say nothing else, Quirrell, as a professor, was driven out of the school by a group of young witches and wizards. Snape, as a professor, only needed to stand there, and no young witch or wizard dared to speak loudly. That’s the difference!

“Severus, seeing me in this state, are you still willing to be loyal to me?” Voldemort’s crimson eyes coldly fixed on Snape.

“Of course, I await your return at any time.”

Snape bowed slightly, “Master, what can I do for you?”

    *Chirp—*

A colorful phoenix circled in the air above the empty stone chamber, and with a flash of fire, Dumbledore, in a white robe, appeared out of thin air.

    “Tom…!”

    “Dumbledore!?”

Voldemort gnashed his teeth, “You tricked me again! The phoenix can Apparate within the castle!”

    Dumbledore: …

    Thank you for your trust!

However… there are so many house-elves in the Hogwarts kitchens; you lived in Hogwarts for seven years, didn’t you notice anything? House-elves can also Apparate within the castle.

“Consider this a win for you this time.” Voldemort said indifferently.

    “Aaaaaahhhh——”

    Quirrell suddenly screamed loudly.

“Tom, you…!” Dumbledore’s face changed. Voldemort was actually absorbing Quirrell’s life force.

Snape pretended to look at Voldemort, then at Dumbledore, standing still like a minion.

“However… I’ve already obtained something far more important!” Voldemort was subtly proud.

People’s experiences are different, so their thoughts and perceptions are naturally different. Although Voldemort was hit by Harry Potter’s rebounding Killing Curse ten years ago, he didn’t really take Harry Potter seriously at this time. In Voldemort’s perception, the rebounding Killing Curse was mostly due to Harry’s mother, and had nothing to do with Harry himself. In the original story, there are many factors behind Voldemort’s obsession with killing Harry personally. One is to establish his authority in front of the Death Eaters. Second, when Harry was in his first year, Voldemort found that he couldn’t touch Harry. Third, Harry repeatedly blocked his Killing Curse with the Disarming Charm. This time, Voldemort did not directly confront Harry.
