Chapter 110: The Eye on My Body

Real-world combat is often far more difficult than in games.

Lu Yuan had no map, so every time he went a certain distance, he would kick hard at the wall, then swing his longsword to leave a mark.

The walls were solid and extremely thick, impossible to break with brute force.

Even more terrifying was that these marks would slowly disappear. As soon as the light was moved, it was as if an invisible hand in the darkness was smoothing them all out.

“Don’t worry, Old Cat can record all the terrain. As long as you completely explore the maze, I can draw a complete map.”

    “These marks are unnecessary.”

Lu Yuan was silent for a while. It seemed there was no other way but this brute-force method.

There’s a simple method for traversing a maze: always go left; or always go right.

Even if you reach a dead end, after returning to a fork in the road, continue to go left or right.

This avoids retracing your steps, using exhaustive search to traverse the entire maze.

    “Damn, it’s so dark.”

The light in his hand was dimming, and a large amount of water dripped from the ceiling onto his armor.

This water was ordinary, non-toxic, but mixed with a rotten stench. The walls were pitted, and some stalactites looked like eyes, silently watching the passing travelers.

“Understanding the opponent’s Divine Technique, while concealing your own, is the core of combat.”

“The Monster’s currently displayed abilities are Astral Space manipulation, mental attacks, and those numerous-eyed minions.”

“This cave seems naturally formed… If it could create matter, it would be a god.”

“In other words, the Monster used Astral Space to move the entire cave in, forming its own territory, like a pocket dimension—this is the ultimate development of Astral Space!”

Lu Yuan pondered for a long time, unsure how to kill the Monster.

Because the Monster only needs to hide its main body and continuously dispatch minions to wear down Lu Yuan to remain undefeated.

He could only hope that the Monster’s intelligence was low and wouldn’t choose to do this…

Or perhaps, it didn’t have many subordinates, after all, the Monster was trapped in a temporal cage, and the time it had to develop wasn’t much.

It was even possible that the Monster had other purposes, not just to capture and eat him…

But no matter what, this battle was incredibly difficult.

The reason why a natural disaster is called a natural disaster is because its difficulty is almost unsolvable… Lu Yuan could defeat a Demon, but he couldn’t necessarily defeat a Monster.

“If a civilization moved nuclear weapons in here, would there be any chance of blowing up the maze?”

Old Cat said: “The idealistic interference here is severe. Many high-precision technological weapons may become ineffective.”

“Of course, in the early stages of the era, nuclear weapons might have been useful. Later, as these monsters grew stronger and the maze expanded, they probably wouldn’t be.”

Old Cat paused: “Someone is following you.”

    “I know.”

    Lu Yuan stopped.

Almost simultaneously, the identical footsteps behind him also stopped.

The third eye on the back of his donkey mask faintly glimpsed a grotesque face and a pale arm covered in eyes.

“I see how long you can endure.”

“Old Cat, keep an eye on things for me.”

Pursuing this thing in the dark wasn’t rational; Lu Yuan simply continued to explore ahead.

After a short while, he saw a wall covered in moss and smelled the stench of decaying blood.

Determined not to miss any clue, he scraped the moss off with his longsword.

He found a lizard-man corpse embedded in the wall, clutching a backpack.

Opening the backpack, he found a small, bloodstained booklet.

[A notebook seemingly recording some information, but translating this script will take some time.]

Lu Yuan took a deep breath. His Explorer’s Eye had taken a week or two to translate Midea Civilization texts?

He certainly couldn’t wait that long in this cave.

“This guy seems to have used explosives to blow a hole in the wall,” Old Cat analyzed. “Then he buried himself inside, using the wall’s self-repairing properties to make it look like he was embedded. Judging by the rate of decay, he died three to five days ago.”

Suddenly, a crimson eye pierced through the mossy wall!

It lunged towards Lu Yuan’s face!!

The attack was quick and brutal. Lu Yuan had focused most of his attention on the monster behind him and the corpse, leaving him somewhat unprepared.

He let out a low growl and made a sideways movement a normal person couldn’t achieve.

The crimson eyeball whizzed past his armor.

At that moment, the shadowy figure behind him suddenly accelerated, already rushing behind Lu Yuan.

The cold, pale arm landed on his shoulder, squeezing hard.

Utter force transmitted along the arm.

Even through his black iron scale armor, Lu Yuan felt a chill run through his body, his shoulder excruciatingly painful.

Just as he was about to turn and counterattack, Old Wolf, hidden in the backpack, suddenly popped its head out, revealing its ferocity and biting the opponent.

    “嗷?!”

The cunning wolf only took a single bite.

After seeing the opponent’s ferocious appearance, it was so scared its teeth almost fell out, and it quickly retreated into the backpack.

Fortunately, that bite bought Lu Yuan time. Calmly, his longsword glowed red, and he severed the arm on his shoulder with a single strike.

He then pulled out the rope from his waistband and lassoed it backward, attempting to capture the monster alive.

This rope was made from man-eating plant vines.

It was stronger than steel cable, and its tiny barbs contained a numbing toxin.

Non-lethal, but very effective against living beings.

The dark, humanoid creature was instantly bound and struggled violently.

Its entire body was covered in eyes—a hundred, two hundred, three hundred—those eyes stared at him strangely!

Lu Yuan gritted his teeth, not daring to look, because if he did, he might suffer a mental attack.

He could only rely on his “third eye” for a vague sense.

The next instant, the creature bound by the rope roared, and a blood-red eyeball grew on the rope.

    The rope snapped.

The monster quickly fled into the darkness.

Cold sweat streamed down Lu Yuan’s forehead: “Damn it, I should have just killed it…”

He looked at the severed arm on the ground.

[The arm of an unknown creature, exceptionally strong, seemingly possessing the “Giant Arm” ability.]

“Damn it, why are each of these monsters’ abilities so different?” He clearly remembered that the baby he’d just killed had “Gravity Manipulation” and “Swift Flash” abilities.

Meanwhile, on his shoulder, the area that had just been attacked displayed a sticky, greenish handprint, like fluorescent powder, exceptionally clear.

    Suddenly!

Lu Yuan couldn’t help but howl. He felt his shoulder growing increasingly painful, as if an iron drill were boring into his flesh.

The intense pain, like childbirth, caused his body to spasm repeatedly.

He could only remove his scale armor and discovered a crimson eye emerging from his flesh!

“What the hell… how is this possible?” Even Lu Yuan’s mental fortitude couldn’t help but tremble. The eyeball grew larger, soon the size of a ping-pong ball, staring fixedly at him.

Black iron equipment had a certain effect in isolating superhuman abilities. This isolation wasn’t infinite, but him being affected by a single touch exceeded his expectations.

Even his Transcendent Fire Seed didn’t react, because this extra eye seemed to be his own.

A strange and icy piece of information came from the crimson eye, as if it wanted to transmit what it saw into his mind.

Lu Yuan gritted his teeth, and with a swift movement, he gouged the writhing eyeball from his flesh. The intense pain made his whole body tremble.

The strange, icy sensation finally disappeared, and he let out a long sigh of relief.

“Comrade… what are you doing?” Old Cat couldn’t help but ask, confused.

“Didn’t you see I got hit? If I wasn’t ruthless, I’d be revived as a point!” Lu Yuan gasped for air, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.

Old Cat was surprised: “What kind of attack…? All I saw was you self-mutilating, inexplicably cutting a piece of your own flesh.”

The cave fell silent again, only the sound of water droplets falling from above, constantly making a “drip, drip, drip” sound.

Lu Yuan was sweating profusely, the immense psychological pressure bearing down on him.

“Things are a bit tricky, Old Cat. I can’t tell the difference between reality and illusion.”

He always felt something watching him in the shadows, those numerous eyes hidden deep within the cavern, emitting silent laughter.

    He first examined himself.

    No debuffs were detected.

The “Explorer’s Eye” wasn’t omnipotent; it was just a Divine Technique.

There were also counter-relations between Divine Techniques. Stronger ones would override weaker ones.

If Lu Yuan himself went mad, he couldn’t blame his abilities for being ineffective.

The oil lamp in his hand continued to flicker weakly.

He crouched down, picked up the piece of flesh, and indeed, a ferocious, crimson eye was staring at him.

He didn’t know if it had just grown or had always been there.

“I can’t tell if it’s an illusion… This attack was really powerful, actually bypassing my black iron armor and causing substantial damage to my body.”

“Old Cat, can you see the eye now?” Lu Yuan poured some oil and burned his flesh, along with the eye, to ashes.

Old Cat was silent for a moment: “I can see it now too, but you can’t completely trust me… I’m also affected by the ability.”

“Unless I enter the most primitive working mode, but then I’ll lose my intelligence and only make a ‘da da da’ sound.”
