Chapter 24: The Commonality of Things Going Wrong

Unlike the public’s reaction, the upper echelons of the 17 human cities surprisingly communicated and shared information with unprecedented speed.

The more they knew, the more they realized they didn’t know.

    Humanity could truly face extinction!

“Mr. Li, this is the meteorite that fell from the sky… It’s been in my research center for ten years.”

Ten years ago, a falling meteorite ushered in the Supernatural Era.

From that day on, a large number of superhuman beings were born.

But in reality, these meteorites were not ordinary meteorites; they were technological artifacts!

Governments around the world unanimously chose to conceal the truth.

Now, experts at the research institute have sufficient reason to suspect that these meteorites have a certain connection to the Pangu Continent.

Li Chunhong, the top official of Yunhai City, was incredibly busy, but still managed to spare some time to visit the Supernatural Research Institute.

The director of the Supernatural Research Institute, Zhang Hui, 42 years old, had been studying supernatural phenomena since superhumans appeared on Earth ten years ago.

“The composition of this metal sphere is actually quite ordinary, just iron, aluminum, copper, rhenium, and some titanium.”

“But the manufacturing process is quite special, possibly utilizing supernatural phenomena we currently don’t understand.”

This meteorite resembled a large, spherical iron ball, about one meter in diameter and weighing around two tons.

Its surface was inlaid with crystal-like structures, looking like screens.

There were 20 “screens” on the metal ball.

Next to the crystal screens were things that looked like buttons.

Li Chunhong said meaningfully, “So you mean this meteorite brought our city to the Pangu Continent?”

“We don’t know yet,” Professor Zhang explained. “There were more than 300 meteorites that fell from the sky, scattered across the world, but only 17 cities were transported.”

“So there isn’t enough evidence to suggest that these extraterrestrial artifacts are the sufficient condition for our transportation.”

“However, it seems to be a civilization communication device that can help us contact other human civilization branches.”

Zhang Hui pressed several buttons on the large iron ball.

The crystal screens surprisingly displayed a video call!

The text was also peculiar; it wasn’t Chinese, yet understandable, implying some unknown supernatural effect.

[Detecting your civilization…Human Civilization First Branch…]

[The civilization you are requesting to contact is…Human Civilization Sixth Branch…]

    [Connection successful!]

“Oh, my God…Professor Zhang, my God! You’ve been transported here too!” The screen showed Edward, a famous supernatural professor from the United States.

The blond old man forced a smile: “According to your Great Eastern country’s proverb, we truly share weal and woe. Is your city in chaos?”

Zhang Hui’s eyebrows twitched; he could faintly hear gunfire in the other party’s video.

“Chaos, complete chaos! Thankfully, we have the army protecting us; otherwise, robbers would have stormed into our homes!” Professor Zhang quickly said.

“Sigh, it seems we’re all the same…But don’t you have gun control over there?” The blond old man sighed.

“We have gun control, but we don’t control axes…”

Li Chunhong, standing beside him, almost couldn’t hold back a chuckle, feeling an inexplicable sense of relief.

After a day of worry, the best news he heard was that his fellow humans were in even greater disarray!

    What’s more, he felt a little schadenfreude…

The world truly thrives on comparing misfortunes.

“Ahem! Let’s contact the other cities.” Li Chunhong cleared his throat, took a sip of water, and tried to maintain a serious expression.

Due to time constraints, most city leaders participated in the meeting via video conference.

Two cities couldn’t be contacted! Perhaps they didn’t even know how to use this extraterrestrial artifact.

After a few brief pleasantries, the meeting officially began.

    “Gentlemen, ladies, please remain calm.”

“First, let’s understand what exactly happened to our world.” Edward, the American professor, presented his latest research findings on the screen—or rather, a small sharing session.

“Since ten years ago, superhumans have appeared on Earth. We’ve always been unaware of the origin of superpowers, and research progress has been slow.”

“It wasn’t until today, with the true appearance of the Pangu Continent, that we’ve glimpsed a small corner of the truth.”

“God…or we can use another term, It.”

“It spent ten years planning this supernatural event, pulling all the civilizations in the universe into the Pangu Continent.”

Next, a video was played on the large screen.

It was footage taken from space during the “wandering city” period.

“The thickness of our city’s crust is generally 20-40 kilometers. This crust came from Earth.”

“In other words, this unknown, powerful being dug our cities, along with the crust, from the Earth’s surface and cleverly embedded them into the Pangu Continent.”

“As for the area of the Pangu Continent, it’s currently impossible to calculate. The part captured from space already exceeds one billion square kilometers…”

This space travel video was truly shocking. What kind of immense power could peel off the Earth’s crust?

The most crucial point was that the humans living in the cities only experienced mild tremors, and casualties were not numerous… Only some dilapidated houses collapsed; everything else was largely intact, even the roads.

If terms like universe and dimension are too far removed from daily life, people can’t form concrete concepts.

The fact that the Earth’s crust was dug out and embedded in the Pangu Continent left the conference room in shock.

“Professor Edward, where did the Earth go?”

“Unfortunately, I don’t know. The Earth might be in another dimension, or it might…simply be gone…You should understand what I mean, right? We are unfortunate, or perhaps fortunate.”

“Although many relatives remain on Earth, we must accept reality. On the bright side, maybe Earth still exists?”

    Everyone fell silent.

After a moment of contemplation, the internationally renowned professor continued, “Now, let me talk about the distribution of our 17 cities. From previous space footage, the distance between each city is over 10,000 kilometers.”

“Friends, take care of yourselves. We can’t help each other; we can only share some information.”

“But the management of the city must be done by yourselves…”

    This professor was quite internationalist…

Li Chunhong sighed after hearing this.

    Yunhai City, well…

Although there was some initial chaos, social order was slowly returning to stability.

Amidst the incomprehensible fear, the people’s demands were simple.

First, they needed food to avoid starvation.

Second, they needed to know the approximate truth.

The most terrifying thing in the world is the unknown. Once the unknown becomes known, the fear is reduced.

As long as these two points could be achieved, the general public would cooperate.

    But what about other cities?

Gunfire could be faintly heard from Edward’s side.

Massive shootings were occurring in his city, New York City.

Some cities with strong religious atmospheres were also experiencing looting and rioting, a kind of apocalyptic revelry.

Some cities were experiencing a “revolt of the lower classes,” with past grievances being repaid tenfold!

This was truly a test of national character and civilization’s ultimate moment.

However, there was nothing to be done; Yunhai City could only manage itself!
