Landing 500 Years Early, I Became a God by Digging for Treasures 66
by adminChapter 66: The True Risks of Pangu Continent
A growing unease gnawed at Lu Yuan. He focused the energy of his Transcendent Fire Seed into his eyes, enhancing his vision.
He saw countless maggots wriggling out of the rotting flesh, dying at an alarming rate. Thick, viscous liquid, like snot, oozed from the creature’s skin, sealing the small holes the maggots had burrowed through.
“What the hell is this thing?” Lu Yuan gasped, his breath catching in his throat.
Wisps of dark energy emanated from the donkey-headed monster’s decaying flesh, coalescing into a thick, mercury-like darkness that steadily spread outwards.
“I’m going to find out what you are.”
Suppressing his intense apprehension, Lu Yuan activated the Explorer’s Eye.
Immediately, a wave of unease washed over him in the form of a message: [A corrupted and degenerated creature, newly awakened from a long slumber. Suspected to be a type of “Demon”.]
[Civilizations that encountered them were likely destroyed, with only the most powerful civilizations managing to survive. No one knows how they are created; they simply exist on the Pangu Continent.]
[Fortunately, this “Demon” is only in its initial stages of awakening, and its current strength isn’t particularly high.]
[Other information unknown.]
[Attributes: ???]
“Demon… what the hell is that?”
Lu Yuan frowned, hiding in the bushes, his superior-grade dagger clutched tightly in his hand. His understanding of the Pangu Continent was limited to the information provided by the Midea Civilization.
But the Midea Civilization didn’t know much about the Pangu Continent either…
After all, the Midea Civilization was just a rookie civilization that had never left its safety zone…
Lu Yuan took a deep breath.
The humanoid creature slowly turned, its entire head rotating one hundred and eighty degrees. Its grey-white, lifeless eyes, devoid of focus, landed on Lu Yuan’s position.
In that instant, Lu Yuan’s heart leaped into his throat!
“It noticed me?!”
That fleeting eye contact triggered an overwhelming wave of terror, coursing from his tailbone and straight to the crown of his head.
Unspeakable whispers slithered into his mind.
The donkey-headed monster’s mouth slowly split open.
It was laughing.
It seemed to be some kind of terrifying psychic ability that spread fear.
The Transcendent Fire Seed pulsed wildly, suppressing the overwhelming emotion.
Lu Yuan broke out in a cold sweat, breaking eye contact with the damned creature.
He swallowed hard, peering through the gaps in the bushes to observe the creature’s surroundings.
The area around the humanoid creature was shrouded in gloom; the nearby grass was visibly withering. This wasn’t simply dehydration; it was a draining of life force itself. The tender new buds of early spring, usually bursting with vibrant life, were now completely withered.
A dark and decaying atmosphere steadily enveloped the valley.
Lu Yuan’s muscles tensed involuntarily. This was a supernatural phenomenon far beyond his comprehension.
He suddenly realized that the worldview of Pangu Continent was likely far more sinister than he’d imagined.
Would anyone really be foolish enough to believe that the Pangu Continent, with its scattered civilization ruins, was a land overflowing with wealth?
Why had the Midea Civilization, after observing the outside world for over three hundred years, still not dared to dismantle its safety zone?
“Are the people of the Midea Civilization all fools? Obviously not, they’re just terrified. They believe dismantling the safety zone means certain death, so they don’t dare to do it.”
“This demonic thing found me, I need to retreat.”
Lu Yuan swiftly descended from the tree, abandoning his attempt to engage the creature.
The Transcendent Fire Seed pulsed violently, signaling imminent danger.
This was the first time since obtaining the Transcendent Fire Seed that he felt such terrifying dread…the flame within him trembled, a wave of intense unease washing over him.
Lu Yuan steadied his nerves, walking while pondering.
“Could the fire lizard have been its natural enemy? Now that the fire lizard is dead, this thing has simply grown stronger?”
He didn’t understand what was meant by “corrupted and degenerated creature,” or “Demon.” The Midea Civilization’s data clearly lacked these terms.
Taking a deep breath, he crouched down, picked up a twig, and drew a line on the ground where he felt the threat’s edge. He wanted to determine if the monster’s territory was expanding.
“If you dare to spread your influence to my area, I’ll have no choice but to kill you!” Lu Yuan took several deep breaths, steeling himself. “After all, you’ve only just awakened.”
He decided to return to his base, research the creature, and then devise a plan.
In the meantime, he mentally upgraded the creature from a “small boss” to a “big boss”.
On his way back to his base camp, he considered many possibilities.
“To mitigate the risk, I can only relocate my camp to a more distant location.”
“Pangu Continent is so vast; there must be a place where I can safely reside.”
But Lu Yuan hadn’t yet fully explored the knowledge left behind by the Midea Civilization. Let alone the miscellaneous scientific papers, the “Transcendent Fire Seed” ability alone offered countless application techniques.
Hundreds, even thousands!
How long would it take for one person to fully develop all these techniques?
On the other hand, just because he’d found one civilization ruin didn’t mean he’d find another anytime soon.
“The Sky City is 17,000 kilometers from here…that’s no small distance.”
Leaving his shelter would drastically reduce his quality of life. The wolf pack would also suffer. They had their own territory and comfort zone; relocating would force them into direct competition with native species. During the migration, how many of the wolf pups would survive…?
Furthermore, with only a level 2 Supra Grade, could he truly venture forth into the unknown?
Lu Yuan wasn’t confident. He might encounter more of these “Demons” along the way.
He couldn’t run forever. He needed to face these creatures to understand them.
“The system left by the Midea Civilization should at least allow me to reach level 3 Supra Grade.”
“Level 3 and the current level 2 are completely different realms.”
“It’s not that I choose comfort, but right now, I really can only stay here. There’s still plenty of wealth here: honey, corn, pomegranates…I’m not ready to leave yet.”
“Besides, the creature is only in its initial awakening state…If I flee, I might find facing these things much harder in the future.”
After making his decision, he felt strangely relieved. His mind buzzed with activity, considering all the possibilities.
If the fire lizard was truly the donkey-headed monster’s natural enemy, and now the fire lizard is dead, what should I do?
“First, the Transcendent Fire Seed ability and the donkey-headed monster may have a counter effect.”
“The fire lizard was at least a level 6 Supra Grade creature, so it could suppress the monster. At level 2, I’m clearly insufficient.”
“Second possibility, the fire lizard’s fire breath could kill the donkey-headed monster with a single blast…”
“I still have some fuel crystals left, and my superior-grade skinning knife. With proper preparation, I might stand a chance.”
