Chapter 69: On Going on Sale
After more than a month of the new book period, it’s finally time for the book to go on sale!
It goes on sale tomorrow at 12 pm!
Eternal Donkey is surprisingly calm this time, perhaps because I’m relying heavily on my past works, knowing the results won’t be too bad?
Relying on past works makes people look down on you. Every day, people say I’m a “worthless loser,” “a has-been”…
Ahem, speaking of this book, I have to mention another book that “died before its work was done”…
Initially, I wanted to be innovative. I thought I had improved and could write some never-before-seen themes!
After all, the results of my last book were quite okay.
So, during the Chinese New Year, I read other masters’ novels and wrote in my notebook, recording various new ideas. In total, I wrote 100,000 words of discarded drafts for the beginning, struggling to force out an opening.
(Urban supernatural type)
I sent it to the operations group, but everyone said it was bad, a carbon copy of that flop book, “Cultivating a House of Obsessions”!
Donkey was furious, “You guys have such poor taste!”
I sent it to my editor, and the editor said it wasn’t good, that it was likely to flop.
My god!
Donkey was even more furious, and I wrote several more tens of thousands of words to prove my ability.
The editor continued to say it wasn’t good. “You can publish it if you want, but the risk is high, and further improvement seems difficult.”
The facts proved that in this new market, Eternal Donkey had absolutely no competitiveness; I was just a donkey grinding grain, no different from an ordinary flop donkey.
After spending so long, I ended up with a huge pile of garbage. I gave up.
I threw all the writing techniques I had painstakingly learned from the masters to the wind and haphazardly wrote the beginning of this book. I posted it to the group, and everyone thought it was good.
I sent it to the editor, and the editor said it was better than the last draft.
So, in the old market, Donkey seems to be the brightest star.
The market is small, but it’s one I created myself. I raced along, galloping at full speed, my hooves flying fast, without any obstacles.
……——……——……
New market: (°°)つhelp tired
Old market: つ(☆▽☆)
……——……——……
Okay, back to the topic. Regarding the issue of high repetition, I actually asked some old readers.
Many readers believe that they didn’t get enough of the last book, and if I write another one, they will still follow!
The last book did have many things that weren’t well-written, causing many readers to drop it halfway. I sincerely apologize for not living up to everyone’s love and support.
Not getting enough is a market demand.
Many types of books form a larger category, such as entertainment, literary giants, game development, esports, rebirth to make phones, stock trading, etc. These readers won’t just read one book and stop. They will look for similar books.
Even in the large categories of Xuanhuan (Chinese fantasy) and Xianxia (immortal cultivation), the repetition rate is quite high. With the development of online literature to this point, it’s difficult to be truly innovative.
Putting old wine in new bottles; if it can avoid being clichéd, that’s already good.
And Eternal Flop’s writing style is actually quite unique – wandering, exploring the unknown and civilizations. It can’t be said to be unique, but it’s a leader in this small market.
(To be honest, it’s not easy to imitate me. In fact, no one has imitated me at all.)
Abandoning my own advantages to enter a larger but more crowded market would be a pity.
There’s a small probability of further improvement, but a much greater chance of flopping again.
Therefore, I think the repetition rate of this book won’t be too high, because there aren’t many books of this type, but there are quite a few readers who like it.
(Although some readers always say that I’m a has-been, it’s okay, let them vent. But don’t vent every day, if it fills up the comments section, I will delete them.)
(Normally, I don’t restrict comments, but some freeloaders treat politeness as if I owe them something. Then, I’m sorry, I have to take you all out.)
…
Next is the worldview of this book.
The first hundred thousand words are purely fast-paced, self-aggrandizing beginnings, and not much of the worldview is revealed. Everyone feels like Pangu Continent is a game, but it’s not.
The worldview of Pangu Continent hasn’t been revealed yet. It’s only in the chapters before the book goes on sale that you’ll get a glimpse.
This world is terrifying; civilizations are extinguished.
Therefore, compared to the last book, the inherent conflict is much greater.
Some readers, after reading the beginning, think that the best choice is to immediately withdraw from the safe zone. This is wrong… Why have so many civilizations disappeared?
World-building has always been my strong point, but I have to admit that setting is useless; how to fill the story is a much more difficult problem.
My last book still had many flaws. The concept of demons was too vague, not specific enough, and lacked a sense of reality.
Coupled with some structural problems, the sense of crisis was lost to a greater or lesser extent, which is one of the reasons why the later part wasn’t as good.
In this book, I have learned from my lessons, incorporating settings from other excellent books while adding my own, making the power system as complete as possible.
Compared to the last book, you will also witness more civilizations, and collect more garbage… After all, the protagonist doesn’t even know which direction humanity is in, and has no way to go home.
Time to pick up trash!
Of course, self-aggrandizement is also essential for online novels.
Eternal Donkey will try to make the self-aggrandizement more sophisticated, ahem… of course, it’s not possible yet. There are only some declining civilizations; most civilizations haven’t appeared yet.
Finally, the issue of tragic events. Since I promised at the end of my last book to write a novel that is as satisfying as possible for everyone, this book will absolutely not have any tragic events. Friends and family will not die, and even the wolves with their limited lifespans, I will find a way to deal with.
Therefore, those who have questions about this can rest assured. This time, I won’t do anything flashy.
Tragedies leave a deep impression, while comedies are forgotten after watching them. I think the depiction of family relationships in my last book was quite good, but I won’t write about it in this book, which is a bit of a pity, but it’s fine if you guys like it.
……
……
Finally, let me explain the science fiction issue again. Some readers always ask me when I’ll write science fiction?
There is no sci-fi content in book 69!
You’ve really fallen, Eternal Donkey!
Unfortunately, I’m not skilled enough to write it.
There are many reasons. In the age of fragmented reading, readers are becoming increasingly impetuous; they often read the beginning, and if it doesn’t seem interesting, they put it down.
This trend is quite obvious, which is why many book titles are getting longer and more sensational.
This book is relatively restrained.
And now Qidian (a Chinese online literature platform) has a PK system, which relies entirely on readership.
A new book, whether written by a master or a newcomer, must participate in PK. Under equal exposure, whoever has better data can advance to the next round and continue the PK.
If the data is bad, sorry, you have no exposure, you’re a flop!
The science fiction genre inherently doesn’t attract many readers.
“Wife’s not home, my sister-in-law is sleeping at my place tonight,” and “The universe will explode tomorrow,” which one would you choose?
Don’t tell me you choose the second one. More people choose the first one. That’s the reality.
Furthermore, the difficulty of the first story is far lower than the second. Everyone can write about the sister-in-law, but how many people can create a story about the universe exploding?
So, the science fiction genre is indeed becoming increasingly cold. The traffic is all supported by a few masters. Once the masters finish their series, it’s really over.
Don’t say that the science fiction genre is full of fantasy novels. This amount of traffic can nourish some decent seedlings. Without the traffic brought by fantasy novels, the science fiction genre is no different from mystery and reality; it’s stagnant.
On the other hand, my previous interstellar science fiction was, frankly, a political book, filled with personal opinions and a strong personal style.
As for politics, if I write it again, it would be the same opinions, which would be very boring.
It’s not like adventure stories. Adventure stories can at least create more monsters, more powerful enemies, and some novelty.
Repeating ideological output again would just be exactly the same.
I have already created what I consider the best society based on my imagination; there’s no need to create another identical one.
Unless I discover a better, more perfect society, I won’t write another one. If not, it’s better not to write.
…
Okay, I’ve rambled on for a long time; that’s about it.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The current launch is just a starting point; the end is still far away.
The process requires caution; I can’t make a single wrong step.
But no matter what, Eternal Donkey also wants a good start.
I hope everyone can subscribe and support me!
(Those who have been freeloading for years: Next time, for sure!)
(Eternal Donkey: You’ve been freeloading off me for how many years without giving me any carrots? I’ll kick your ass!)
Finally, I’m asking for monthly tickets! Subscriptions! Recommendation tickets! Thank you!
