Chapter 7: Treasures in the Ruins

Another familiar flash of light struck Lu Yuan’s mind, as if a vast amount of knowledge was forcefully injected into his soul.

    It was scorching, intensely uncomfortable.

Lu Yuan refused to fall unconscious in this place, enduring the soul-piercing pain with gritted teeth.

After two hours, he gradually recovered, discovering he possessed a new ability—”Storage Space.”

He could expend mental energy to create a personal storage space.

This space differed from his Astral Space ability. His Astral Space could hold living beings, but the “Storage Space” could not contain any conscious creatures.

However, time within the Storage Space was almost nonexistent; items could be preserved indefinitely.

“Based on my current strength, I can probably create… 1 cubic meter of space?”

Lu Yuan gestured; 1 cubic meter wasn’t very large, about the volume of a ton of water.

Fortunately, the usable space would increase with his strength.

    “Not bad.”

He picked up the spider corpse and walked into the room.

To his disappointment, it turned out to be a…data center?

Outside were several offices, equipped with computer-like machines.

Inside the server room, countless supercomputers—perhaps hundreds—were densely packed.

The basement archive was filled with files.

[Archive files made of acid-free paper. Decrypting the civilization’s script… Requires decryption time.]

Glass doors blocked his path. He knocked; they were very thick.

Forcibly breaking these doors and windows seemed unavoidable.

“Is anyone there? Hello! Is anyone there!”

    No survivors.

    No food.

No other biological remains…only a few crawling insects.

Lu Yuan sighed softly, a vision flashing through his mind: thousands of years later, a massive alien army discovered this ruin and fought a great battle with countless giant spiders, finally obtaining this precious data center.

    The commander was ecstatic.

Indeed, data and documents were the most important assets for a civilization, weren’t they?

In the ruins, this was the most valuable treasure.

“But for me, if even one of these computers had been of any use, it wouldn’t be completely useless!”

“However, this data center is a good place; at least it’s safer than sleeping rough.”

Lu Yuan comforted himself, dragging his weary body back to yesterday’s campsite.

He used a metal box to collect a basin of charcoal and gathered some firewood before extinguishing the fire.

He carried the charcoal back to the data center, built a fire, and excitedly began dissecting the spider.

By the time he was done, it was afternoon.

Lu Yuan felt like a primitive man, his productivity incredibly low, living a life of “rising with the sun and resting at sunset,” his mind preoccupied solely with filling his stomach.

The past seemed like a beautiful dream, shattered piece by piece. He had to adapt to this new life.

He actually missed it, but dared not think about it.

So, he could only calmly do his work.

[It seems to be a Hellfire Spider, only a day old, slaughtered so unexpectedly, it’s a shocking waste.]

[If it had grown for a few years, it might have provided an excellent Transcendent Fire Seed.]

“If I let it grow for a few years, I’d be instantly killed.”

The Explorer’s Eye kindly reminded him: [Except for the venom gland and internal organs, the other parts should be safe to eat.]

[The eye-like pattern on its back, when completely peeled off, possesses a subtle mental deterrence effect.]

Lu Yuan observed for a while; the small sac emitting red light should be the venom gland.

He carefully dissected it using a snakeskin knife, storing it in a metal box.

[Hellfire Spider venom gland, containing a ferocious neurotoxin, its toxicity is absolutely beyond your resistance. The toxin is soluble in organic solvents; at 300 degrees Celsius, the toxin will be destroyed.]

    “Good stuff!”

He then removed the internal organs.

He knocked off a few long legs and placed them over the flames to roast.

While waiting, his mood was bittersweet, filled with anticipation.

The sound of “crackling” arose. The spider leg quickly emitted a strange smell; frankly, it was a bit like burnt rubber mixed with a strong meaty aroma.

Lu Yuan gritted his teeth, crushed the spider leg with a stone, and bit into the steaming spider meat.

    Instantly, his worried heart relaxed!

“Why does this taste so much like beef?!”

Perhaps because of the strong muscle fibers, it truly resembled beef.

It also had a wonderful crispy-tender texture; one bite revealed a perfect combination of crunchy exterior and tender interior, a delicious feast in his mouth.

Even without seasoning, Lu Yuan ate with gusto, completely unable to stop!

The rubbery smell was actually produced by the insect’s exoskeleton burning; it had nothing to do with the meat inside.

“Remove the shell before grilling; it tastes even better.”

A spider leg was only about the size of a loach. After eating two legs, Lu Yuan realized he was full.

A warm current seemed to surge through his stomach. The energy contained in the blood and flesh of a transcendent creature was far higher than that of an ordinary creature; it was normal to feel full quickly.

“One spider should last me at least three days.”

Lu Yuan suddenly felt happy; at least he had solved his immediate problem.

    He was full!

    So good!

Happiness doesn’t lie in having a lot, but in being satisfied even with a little.

This feeling of satisfaction was a lazy contentment, free of any worries.

    Dating, work, bosses—all rubbish.

“God, in gratitude for this full meal, I’m your loyal follower; I won’t curse you today!” Lu Yuan looked at the gray sky, speaking in a playful tone.

“If you can give me a beautiful wife, I’ll be your ultimate fanatic.”

“I beg you, just one beautiful wife!”

Lu Yuan thought that since he’d made a request, he might as well be more demanding and added a condition: “The wife should ideally be a divine being, infinitely powerful, capable of defeating all monsters, and hopelessly in love with me.”

“BOOM!” Dark clouds gathered in the sky, and a golden lightning bolt split a large tree in half.

Was God expressing His anger? You, a mere mortal, why do you want a hopelessly lovestruck wife? What does hopelessly lovestruck even mean?

Lu Yuan shouted, “What if my wife is too powerful, and she cheats on me? A hopelessly lovestruck wife wouldn’t do that!”

    “BOOM!”

More lightning struck from the sky.

Dark clouds gathered, and torrential rain began to fall, the sound a torrential downpour, like the weeping of the heavens.
