Chapter 89: Searching for Lu Yuan in a Dream

“Are we having this conversation in a dream?” Lu Qingqing looked at the empty Yunhai City. All the buildings were identical to those in reality, but there wasn’t a single person around. The further away the scene, the more hazy it became.

“Don’t dwell on it; you’ll wake up. You’re all inside a lucid dream I’ve constructed,” Han Yue whispered. “You need to imagine a trigger that’s impossible in reality. Like the top in *Inception*, a trigger is needed to distinguish between the dream and reality.”

Their three dreams, linked together, were missing one final step: using a “person-finding” ability user – the project head, Li Lan – to locate the faraway Lu Yuan, then having his sister, Lu Qingqing, send him a dream message.

These steps combined were incredibly difficult!

Because this was within a dream, not the real world…

How to find someone was a major problem!

And the passage of time for Lu Yuan was different from that in the safe zone.

While they slept for a night, forty or fifty days might have passed for Lu Yuan… well, that’s certainly quite magical.

In other words, they had to quickly find him the moment Lu Yuan fell asleep to send him a dream message. The probability was as low as winning the lottery.

“Let’s begin; let’s try leaving the safe zone.”

    The scene became increasingly hazy.

Guided by their “pathfinding” ability, the three of them actually crossed the safe zone.

    The light curtain was breached.

They faced the vast Pangu Continent.

Then, the whole world went dark.

Nameless mist rose from somewhere unknown.

A murmuring drizzle, like whispers under the stars, filled the air.

“It feels like there’s an extra person in the group… there are four of us now?” Lu Qingqing trembled.

    “There are five now!”

    “Six now??”

Humans weren’t the only ones possessing Divine Techniques.

In the brilliant dreamscape, one eye after another slowly opened, mocking the helpless humans.

Each star in the sky represented an eye, silently staring, wriggling frantically!

The dream instantly plunged into darkness, rapidly transforming into a terrifying nightmare.

Chewing and swallowing sounds echoed through the void.

“We need to wake up; something might be interfering with us,” Han Yue, possessing the “dream entry” ability, was filled with anxiety. She led the group back into the safe zone.

Then, the group was reduced to three again.

She wiped the sweat from her brow: “Nightmares are often omens of danger; this sky is too unusual.”

“There are other dream ability users on the Pangu Continent…”

“It could be monsters, far stronger than us.”

“If we’re attacked, we’ll die in the dream.”

Their first dream induction ended in failure.

Only through trying did they realize the terror of the outside world.

Even in the early stages of the Ninth Epoch, the Pangu Continent was not something they could easily traverse, not even in the dream world.

Li Lan, the head of the “Pathfinding Plan,” assessed the situation. If their combined ability was 100, the difficulty of the entire project was likely over 100,000.

It was simply beyond their current capabilities.

    She was utterly worried!

“Perhaps we can cooperate with other cities?” Several staff members discussed in the room.

“Since dream abilities can indeed transcend the safe zone… other cities should also have similar Divine Techniques.”

“But is cooperation in a dream realistic?”

“I think it’s possible… which city wouldn’t want to find Lu Yuan? At least they need to know if he’s alive or dead.”

Finally, Li Lan gently tapped the table: “First, let’s find a way to dream-sense people in other cities, ten thousand kilometers away.”

“If we can’t even sense that far, finding Lu Yuan, who knows how many kilometers away, is impossible.”

Thus, Yunhai City made its decision: cultivate internal strength while also improving external skills!

Other cities faced their own unique circumstances.

Cities with relatively abundant resources barely maintained stability, constantly discussing “the risks of the Pangu Continent.”

The information transmitted by Lu Yuan was indeed of immense value.

Any ruler with a brain wouldn’t question “whether Lu Yuan was dead or not”… instead, they’d be thinking of finding him.

Some cities, like Yunhai City, tried to contact Lu Yuan through abilities.

“Jacob, you already know Lu Yuan’s appearance and voice. Use your telepathic ability to confirm if he’s dead.”

“Sir, that’s impossible! I must have face-to-face contact to sense; I can’t just look at photos or videos. My ability has limits.”

“What if we add another person…”

    A Romani woman entered.

    Jenny, the fortune teller.

An internationally renowned astrologer, she had been famous for years.

She was known worldwide for predicting the “death of Shinzo Abe,” “Messi winning the World Cup,” “the Russo-Ukrainian War,” and “Trump’s victory in the US election.”

    Her ability was divination.

The blonde woman smiled, “Mr. Jacob, Yunhai City has sent an invitation for the ‘Pathfinding Plan.’ I believe international cooperation is necessary, and the chances of success are considerable.”

“Lu Yuan’s life or death is a matter of great importance.”

The world of superpowers was full of wonders.

The existence of Divine Techniques brought endless possibilities!

Of course, cities with less abundant resources and weak government power couldn’t participate in the cooperation.

Or rather, these governments were corrupt and chaotic entities, and panic still raged within society.

The second branch of human civilization, Kahelen, was in a state of anarchy.

All the supermarkets had been looted.

The entire district resembled a ghost town, with many cars smashed and their gasoline stolen.

The bloodstains on the streets had turned from reddish-brown to black, and occasionally, rotting corpses could be seen.

Even when people appeared, they did so in groups, armed with axes, machetes, and various other weapons.

Gangs and warlords, in the power vacuum, became the true rulers.

But gangs and warlords couldn’t solve one problem: the food problem!

Kahelen was an arid city with low food production. During the Earth era, it relied on international trade for food supplies, and its grain reserves were already low.

Now that international trade had vanished, how could the massive food shortage be addressed?

Driven by hunger, the people would do anything!

“Professor Tot, how do we solve the food problem? What about the supernatural crops in our city?” In the military camp, a general, smoking a cigarette and wearing sunglasses, asked a university professor.

The middle-aged professor dared not delay, immediately replying, “I’m sorry, we don’t have the technological capability.”

“But if we open the granaries and distribute food, and immediately plant potatoes, they’ll mature in three or four months, and perhaps we can barely solve the problem.”

“General, we cannot open the safe zone! We haven’t spread the Transcendent Fire Seed; we… we’ll die!!”

“The water sources near our city have increased significantly. Reclaiming farmland now might still be possible!”

The general remained silent, saying nothing.

With the government’s collapse, the current power structure was decentralized.

In short, it was every man for himself; there were probably tens of thousands of gangs.

Some warlords were willing to open the granaries, others were not.

Not everyone was willing to contribute their wealth to the people to stabilize society.

“Reclaiming farmland requires a stable environment. We don’t currently have that condition. Everyone is trying to rob, no one is willing to cultivate.”

For the poor, the only option was to open the safe zone and venture into the Pangu Continent!

After all, the right to vote was in their hands. When people are starving, they can only take risks!

As the voting rate increased, the chaotic deadlock remained unresolved.

The general finished his cigarette and finally waved his hand, giving the order: “Spread this video, to create even greater panic!”

“Make sure the voting rate goes down… even if people starve to death, the safe zone must absolutely not be lifted!”

Thus, the video of “Lu Yuan’s battle with the donkey-headed monster” began to spread widely among the second branch of human civilization, causing the highest level of panic.

Creating panic was merely to prevent the lifting of the safe zone; it was ridiculous, yet true.

After all, those in power would never starve.

Similarly, in Ping’an City, the 17th branch of humanity.

The sounds of gunfire still echoed across the wasteland.

Half the city had become a wasteland.

This city was even more chaotic than Kahelen, the second branch of humanity.

Because before being teleported, Ping’an City was already in the midst of a war!

    “Liberate Ping’an City!”

    “Reclaim our land!!”

“If you are human, stand with us; if you are human, pick up your weapons and fight those thugs.”

    BOOM!

Houses collapsed, and the war continued.

This madness meant that the city had no leaders, only two factions engaged in a life-or-death struggle.

They wouldn’t care about anything else until one side completely annihilated the other.

In Dongjin City, the 11th branch of humanity.

A large group of researchers gathered before a screen, cautiously discussing something.

“Commander, such terrifying creatures have appeared; what should we do?”

“We don’t even have a Transcendent Fire Seed… we’ll be slaughtered!”

According to their initial plans, Dongjin City was considered one of the stronger cities among the seventeen, with decent industrial capabilities, making them eligible to lead humanity!

A formation pattern, leading other cities, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

As long as they prepared enough guns and ammunition, opened the safe zone, and hunted a creature possessing a Transcendent Fire Seed, they could regain this precious ability.

But now they were somewhat apprehensive.

Aggressiveness and conservatism were clashing fiercely…

Some people, especially scholars, secretly believed that Dongjin City was finished.

Without a Transcendent Fire Seed, they were lagging behind by an unknown number of years and would never have a future again.

    Therefore, they wanted to escape.

They would flee as soon as the safe zone was lifted.

As for their destination… that was still under heated discussion.
