    Chapter 130: An Imminent Attack

Shen Sui, though eager to check on Xin Yuan Tan Chun’s condition, hesitated. The moment he considered asking, the Dueling Instrument blared a fierce alarm.

Immediately afterward, Xin Yuan Tan Chun called, questioning the sudden alarm while their Soul Cards were happily chatting.

Shen Sui couldn’t possibly tell Xin Yuan Tan Chun he’d just been pondering turning her *into* a card. He chuckled it off with a vague explanation.

“But, your character in World One seems…off. Why is she so close to Isabella?” Before hanging up, Xin Yuan Tan Chun couldn’t resist a comment.

[Isabella inquired about your relationship with Alice.]

Shen Sui pondered this for a long time, finally giving Isabella an ambiguous answer: a state of mutual dependence.

Although he treated Alice like a daughter he was raising, this “raising” wasn’t their actual relationship.

Furthermore, Shen Sui worried that if he truly explained, Isabella would definitely try to find Alice’s birth mother, regardless of his repeated emphasis on it being a metaphor.

Alice, having earned a considerable amount and feeling satisfied, left Emerald City and headed towards the area where the Crystal Dragon appeared.

Isabella ultimately didn’t join Shen Sui.

[Isabella decided to leave your sight so she can better attempt to come to the world where you truly are.]

    Oh, dear.

Should I warn Xin Yuan Tan Chun about a possible attack from Isabella?

[Isabella knows you value your friends, so she naturally rejected the idea of possessing that girl’s body.]

[Moreover, she wouldn’t accept using another woman’s body to interact with you.]

[This would make her very uncomfortable, like a lover being stolen.]

[She wants to arrive in her true form.]

Shen Sui knew this was possible.

After all, when big players in the game invaded newbie saves, they always came in their true form, never possessing a body.

However, true-form invasion relied heavily on a medium; identical NPCs needed to exist in both saves, acting as the conduit for the invasion.

    Isabella left.

She was the first fully conscious, fully compatible, romanceable character he’d reunited with on the Dawn Continent.

After seeing Isabella, Shen Sui couldn’t help but recall what he’d done to the romanceable female characters in his second playthrough.

Due to the inertia from his first playthrough, he’d naturally treated them as his wives in the second playthrough, casually showering them with gifts—after all, gift-giving in *Dawn Link* was practically costless; he could just give them away and steal them back.

    Oh, dear.

Shen Sui felt a little uneasy.

He was, after all, a pure-hearted straight man in his past life, unused to this kind of situation.

Perhaps he’d encounter similar female characters in the future, suddenly with high affection levels; what should he do then?

    Shen Sui looked around.

Suddenly, this dorm room felt a bit small.

    *Knock! Knock! Knock!*

Just as Shen Sui was lost in thought, a knock came at the dorm room door.

Shen Sui looked out the window; night had fallen, and a silvery moon hung in the sky, exuding a serene atmosphere.

Who would be looking for me at this hour?

With a touch of curiosity, Shen Sui peered through the peephole.

    It was Wang Ming.

    “It’s Wang Ming.”

Wang Ming spoke, looking at the shadow of feet visible through the crack in the door.

Shen Sui opened the door a crack.

“Shen Sui, long time no see,” Wang Ming smiled at Shen Sui.

“So late? What’s up?” Shen Sui asked curiously.

Wang Ming’s smile faded, his expression turning serious. “A Sky One Academy student was attacked on their way home a while ago…”

He looked around, helplessly asking, “May I come in?”

He then pulled out an ID card.

    The Exploration Bureau?

Shen Sui was slightly stunned; he hadn’t expected Wang Ming to be from the Exploration Bureau.

Favourably disposed toward the Bureau, Shen Sui opened the door.

“This matter might be related to the Suffering Poets Society,” Wang Ming said frankly, without beating around the bush. “Director Zhang asked me to warn you to be careful when going out lately.”

“This could’ve been a phone call,” Shen Sui didn’t take the Suffering Poets Society seriously; he wasn’t even afraid of the Suffering Bodhisattva’s true form.

“This time is different,” Wang Ming said seriously. “The suspect uses duels to torture victims, inflicting severe mental trauma before stealing their Fate Cards. Eight people have been victimized, six of whom have died.”

“Dark Duel?” Shen Sui subconsciously muttered.

Wang Ming didn’t understand the term but found the meaning quite apt. He paused and continued, “A Sky One Academy student was attacked a few hours ago. They managed to protect their Fate Card, but suffered severe injuries and are currently in critical condition in the hospital. The suspect’s targets all share one characteristic: their Soul Card worlds are all fantasy-themed. Yours (World One) is among them. Be extra careful for a while, and avoid duels with strangers.”

“There’s such a method? Mentally torturing opponents through duels?” Shen Sui stroked his chin, lost in thought.

He subconsciously thought of the forced duel module developed by Bu Pei’s father.

If this kind of harm were combined with that duel module…

“I’ve delivered my message, I should go now,” Wang Ming smiled.

“Be careful too,” Shen Sui said, “Your deck is also fantasy-themed, right?”

Shen Sui hadn’t dueled with Wang Ming, but they had engaged in numerous Fate Card trades. This longtime customer had significantly alleviated Shen Sui’s initial poverty after his time travel.

“Don’t worry about me, you should worry about yourself. You’re the one who actually disrupted the Suffering Poets Society’s plot,” Wang Ming said as he stood up to leave.

“Oh, right,” Shen Sui suddenly remembered something, and said to Wang Ming, “If possible, could you ask your director if the Dusk Saint’s diary original manuscript could be offered as a mission reward?”

Wang Ming looked at Shen Sui with surprise. “Besides being an artifact, it doesn’t have any other use, does it?”

“An artifact?” Shen Sui was surprised.

“Yes, it was unearthed from a three-hundred-year-old ruin near Sili City,” Wang Ming pondered, “It has some research value, but that’s about it. I’ll talk to Director Zhang; it shouldn’t be too difficult to get it as a mission reward.”

Shen Sui nodded, saying nothing more.

“Speaking of,” Wang Ming suddenly remembered something about Shen Sui before leaving, “I heard you know Yue Tao. If you have time, visit him in the hospital. He’s really unlucky to be attacked like that; I’m not sure if he’ll pull through.”
