Let them print cards, not slay gods 149
by adminChapter 149: Yuan Youxin’s Hesitation
Yuan Youxin seemed very concerned about what was happening in the Soul Card world.
Shen Sui was absolutely certain.
Although the Dusk Bishop’s power couldn’t be fully reflected in the real world, the lingering power still allowed Shen Sui to judge the other party’s thoughts to some extent.
Of course, for some reason, his residual power would be temporarily blocked once the Fate Card duel arena opened.
Perhaps this was a rule set by this world to allow natives to deal with transcendent beings.
Shen Sui could actually break this rule. If he completely disregarded the survival of the real world, everything could be changed.
But Shen Sui didn’t need to do that.
Playing cards was pretty good.
If you want to overturn the table and start a fight, then we can talk about using transcendent power to crush others.
“What kind of relationship do you think we have with our Soul Cards?” The first preliminary round was over, and there should be two more rounds. Three out of two wins would qualify for the main tournament.
This was actually very difficult.
But Shen Sui wasn’t worried at all.
There was a little time before the next duel.
Yuan Youxin actually came to chat with Shen Sui.
It seemed that Shen Sui’s card, [“Rebellious Uprising”], had caused him a significant psychological impact.
Were the words I made up too edgy?
Shen Sui couldn’t help but think.
The lines he recited when he activated [“Rebellious Uprising”] were improvised, rambling and nonsensical.
Shen Sui only said those lines because he felt he should say something when activating the card.
It’s like when duelists summon their ace, they usually have a line, right?
Unfortunately, Shen Sui’s literary skills were truly poor; he couldn’t come up with anything decent.
“What kind of relationship?” Yuan Youxin’s question stumped Shen Sui.
He subconsciously thought of Alice, who was running around the Dawn Continent.
What was his relationship with Alice?
It was complicated.
Teacher and student?
Father and daughter?
Friends?
It seemed to be a bit of everything, yet nothing at all.
But Shen Sui never dwelled on such things.
Interpersonal relationships should never adhere to a specific definition.
Even biological father and daughter could be friends.
Even strangers could become like father and son. Those calls of “义父” (yi fu – sworn father) in his past life weren’t in vain.
As long as you treat me to a meal, you’re my sworn father.
However, Shen Sui was certain that the relationship between a Fate Card Master and their Soul Card was never one of controller and controlled.
What the Fate Card Master issued through the Dueling Instrument were merely commands to their own Soul Card world individual. Essentially, they were controlling themselves. Whether the individual in that Soul Card world could influence the Soul Card was unknown.
Rebellious ones, like Alice, almost always exceeded Shen Sui’s expectations in their actions.
All a Fate Card Master could do was influence.
Direct control was no different than playing chess.
In his past life, Shen Sui played a Wuxia (martial arts) sandbox board game with a close friend. They sat there, like running a tabletop RPG, manipulating pieces in the sandbox, rolling dice, drawing cards, and arguing with each other.
Ultimately, the winner depended on whose voice was louder.
Shen Sui always won because his friend couldn’t beat him.
“Let’s call it friends,” Shen Sui said after much deliberation, finally settling on an ambiguous term.
Friends?
Yuan Youxin fell into deep thought.
This wasn’t a groundbreaking answer, but it solidified Yuan Youxin’s belief.
Yuan Bu Tong was his friend.
Even across two worlds, he was still one of his best friends.
Yuan Youxin’s previous immersion in amateur competitions wasn’t just because he didn’t want to enter the professional world; it was also because once he went pro, he’d have to cultivate more Fate Cards. He never wanted to force Yuan Bu Tong to do anything.
“Thank you,” Yuan Youxin said, bowing his head.
Shen Sui found Yuan Youxin’s demeanor strange. He quipped, “You look like you’re about to save the world. What is this, a pre-battle pep talk from a shonen anime?” (Shonen anime typically feature young male protagonists embarking on grand adventures.)
Yuan Youxin grinned, saying, “Maybe destroy the world instead.”
“Hah, destroying the world isn’t scary,” Shen Sui confidently said.
He could guarantee that no one could do that in front of him.
“Good luck with your match,” Yuan Youxin said. “I hope we meet in the main tournament.”
“Next time we meet, don’t lose so badly,” Shen Sui said.
“Losing to you like that wasn’t too bad,” Yuan Youxin thought he’d done his best, so even in defeat, it wasn’t shameful.
An ugly match was one where someone had the strength to win but messed up and lost.
Shen Sui chuckled, “That’s true, but after two duels with you, I feel like something’s missing.”
Shen Sui pondered for a while, then slapped his hand, saying, “Oh~! I know! In our duels, I never summoned a Soul Card.”
Yuan Youxin’s calm mood was instantly ruined by Shen Sui’s words.
What do you mean you never summoned a Soul Card?!
Are you saying I’m not worthy of you summoning a Soul Card?!
Yuan Youxin wanted to retort, but upon reflection, it was indeed true.
The words died in his throat, and he froze.
This guy is really annoying.
Yuan Youxin glared at the grinning Shen Sui and huffily turned to leave.
Next time! Next time I meet you, I’ll make you summon a Soul Card!
If Shen Sui knew what Yuan Youxin was thinking, he’d probably criticize Yuan Youxin for having such low aspirations.
After defeating Yuan Youxin, Shen Sui’s next two duels went smoothly.
He initially thought Yuan Youxin was just a beginner Fifth-Rank Fate Card Master.
But after the next two duels, Shen Sui realized that Yuan Youxin, newly promoted to Fifth-Rank, was quite strong.
At least, he could pose a real threat to Shen Sui.
His opening moves had significant suppressing power.
If Shen Sui hadn’t gotten lucky with his card draws, he wouldn’t have won so easily.
Easily winning all the preliminary rounds, Shen Sui naturally advanced to the main tournament of the Shanghai Dueling Conference.
The bland matches made him miss Comrade Yuan Youxin.
At least his duels brought some novelty.
However, although he was slightly stronger than a Fifth-Rank Fate Card Master and won easily, he clearly felt that his deck, except for a few cards, had reached its operational limit.
Sure enough, he didn’t have enough cards.
Shen Sui glanced at his Alice.
You have to work hard, Alice.
He thought to himself as he wandered around, wanting to see how Yuan Youxin was doing.
Xin Yuan Tan Chun was a Sixth-Rank Fate Card Master and didn’t need to participate in the preliminary rounds, so out of all the contestants in the training hall, Shen Sui only knew Yuan Youxin.
To his disappointment, Yuan Youxin had forfeited.
It seemed that after the second duel, the Dueling Instrument issued an alert; something had happened in the Soul Card world.
A passerby Shen Sui asked said that Yuan Youxin left in a hurry and with a very grim expression.
To be continued…
