Chapter 31: My Deck Far Surpasses Yours! (Please continue reading!!!)
Exchanging Fate Cards between Card Masters in a world similar to the Soul Card world is quite common, as Fate Cards of the same attribute from the Soul Card world are mostly interchangeable.
Shen Sui didn’t hesitate to agree to the trade with Yue Tao.
This [“Element: Magic Conversion Wheel”] is a very powerful Fate Card.
Looking at the card’s name, Shen Sui guessed that Yue Tao was looking for cards with the same keyword to build a deck.
After saying goodbye to Yue Tao, Shen Sui received his delivery and returned to the dormitory. After some tinkering, he finally got his hands on his first computer in this world.
The internet in this world is also very developed, forming a huge ecosystem around the Fate Card system.
Online, there are countless forums related to Fate Cards.
Logically, in such a developed internet society, trending events usually come and go quickly. However, to Shen Sui’s surprise, his online popularity showed no signs of fading.
This was mainly because the talented girl, Xin Nascent Soulxue, rose to fame by defeating a Fifth-Rank Card Master head-on. Under the manipulation of the Xin Yuan family, she had been trending heavily for days, either winning championships in one competition after another or engaging in back-and-forth battles with Sixth-Rank Card Masters.
The intensity of her trending status made Shen Sui feel a faint sense of déjà vu, like watching a top celebrity in his previous life.
This behavior naturally caused dissatisfaction among some netizens.
“We want to watch world-class duels! We want to see information about the World Championship, not some rankless girl constantly shoving herself in our faces!”
“Genius?”
“Are there any fewer geniuses in this world?”
“Next door in Japan, a high school student has already won the national championship. You’re not even a professional; how dare you trend so heavily?”
And so, a wave of criticism ensued.
Then, some mischievous netizens dug up Shen Sui and compared him to Xin Nascent Soulxue.
“Both defeated Fifth-Rank Card Masters. She’s a genius girl, so Shen Sui is also a genius!”
Shen Sui watched this online sparring match, feeling like he’d been caught in the crossfire, and couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time.
However, Xin Nascent Soulxue…
His mind suddenly flashed an image of Xin Yuan Tan Chun’s unkempt appearance.
The surname Xin Yuan was incredibly rare in mainland China. Besides descendants of Ryukyu immigrants (referring to the Ryukyu Kingdom, now Okinawa), there were only a few in Northeast China. Therefore, associating their relationship upon seeing the same surname wasn’t unexpected.
Sisters?
Shen Sui scrolled through his mouse.
As Lin Ke’er had said, information about World One was scarce in this world.
Although its peak combat power wasn’t as high as the Mythical World, the danger and chaos of World One, Dawn Continent, were infamous in the Soul Card world. Even the zombie apocalypse worlds weren’t as terrifying as Dawn Continent.
Shen Sui stroked his chin and glanced at the current world rankings.
Number one was Tias Malfoy from the United States. He had recently defeated Yu Wenqi, a Ninth-Rank Card Master from China, winning the latest Thor’s Hammer Cup championship.
Number two was Yu Wenqi, the runner-up of the Thor’s Hammer Cup, and currently the strongest Card Master in China. However, while dominating most national-level competitions, Yu Wenqi had become a perennial runner-up in world-class competitions. You could say he was weak because he always made it to the World Championship finals; but you could also say he was strong, because despite all these years, he hadn’t won a single world-class championship. Ironically, during the months he took off to care for his newborn child, a Ninth-Rank Card Master named Tan Song unexpectedly won a world-class competition, the Azure Dragon Cup, making Yu Wenqi’s “eternal second place” status even more glaring.
Number three was Higashiyama Yuzai from Japan. A powerful Card Master who won two world-class championships last year, after suffering a major blow with half his deck being banned, he went quiet for over half a year before finally returning. Based on his recent performance in several world-class competitions, he had climbed back into the top three.
In this world with incredibly flourishing card duel culture, a massive number of competitions are held daily.
Store tournaments, amateur cups, professional leagues, professional cups…
World-class tournaments are all Class A events. National-level tournaments are divided into Class A and Class B depending on their intensity and registration restrictions. Smaller regional professional tournaments are Class C events.
The prize money for these competitions is incredibly lucrative.
The strong duel culture has made holding duels the fastest and best publicity method. Large companies are pouring money into holding competitions, with some amateur tournaments even offering higher prize money than Class C events, giving rise to a group of professional amateur duelers who specifically target amateur competitions for the prize money.
After all, amateur events generally aren’t too intense.
These professional amateur duelers often have the strength of a First or Second-Rank professional, essentially “fishing” in amateur events. The most famous among them seems to be someone named Yuan Youxin, dubbed the “Amateur Duel King” by netizens.
Of course, all of this was still very distant for Shen Sui, a newcomer without even a rank.
What he needed to find out was the location of the Chosen Cup—yes, Xin Yuan Tan Chun had told him everything except where the competition was held.
The next day, when Shen Sui emerged from the subway station, he was shocked by the scene before him.
It was a sea of people stretching as far as the eye could see.
All of these were spectators who came to watch the competition.
Could an amateur cup really attract so many spectators?
This might have something to do with the Chosen Cup being free for spectators, but it was enough to show the passion of the people in this world for Fate Card duels.
Shen Sui used all his strength to squeeze through the crowd and arrived at the event’s registration booth.
Although it was an amateur cup, the Tianyi Park organizers set up the venue to the standard of a major competition, from guidance to the atmosphere of the venue, emphasizing professionalism and high-end quality.
The prelims consisted of ten matches, and whether you could advance to the knockout stage depended on your number of wins.
A total of eight players would advance to the final knockout stage.
If more than eight players achieved a perfect win record, they would continue to duel until only eight remained.
Most participants were duel enthusiasts. Shen Sui’s nearly perfect deck made winning relatively easy against these opponents. He won nine matches in a row, averaging three rounds per match.
He sat at the duel stage, playing with his Soul Point cards.
“Are you Shen Sui?”
A strange voice came.
Shen Sui looked at the person. He was handsome, well-dressed, but looked a little foolish.
He couldn’t quite describe the feeling.
How to put it…the kind of person who looks like they have plenty of money and are easy to trick.
“I’ve seen your duel videos online.” The man smoothly sat opposite Shen Sui and took out his number plate.
He was Shen Sui’s final opponent in the prelims.
“Your chain combos are strong. But I’m sorry.” The man puffed out his chest, proudly saying, “I’ll win this duel. Because my deck… far surpasses yours!”
“Oh?” Shen Sui’s curiosity was piqued.
“Let me show you!” The man took out a deck from the Dueling Instrument, carefully and reverently placing it on the table, as if offering prayers to a deity. “I bought this with a lot of money. It’s half of Higashiyama Yuzai’s banned deck.”
“Every card here is a banned card!”
“Tell me, doesn’t it far surpass yours?”
