Chapter 4: Alice’s Advance

[But, I’m willing to make a deal with you.]

In just one battle, Alice got Shen Sui two magic cards for him; she’s definitely a high-efficiency existence.

Shen Sui immediately opened the two cards to check their effects.

[Deathly Determination] is a card similar to the Yu-Gi-Oh! card [Fellow Travelers], which takes out one of the opponent’s monsters when one of your own is destroyed. Although it’s a targeting effect, it’s still quite good in the current Fate Card duel environment.

[Feigned Weakness], this card, Shen Sui was a little dissatisfied with. I reduced the spirit value of one of my own monsters to 0, only to get the opponent unable to attack?

Is this reasonable? It’s not reasonable!

Shen Sui immediately began to modify the effect of [Feigned Weakness].

In order to add restrictions, Shen Sui directly wrote the effect of a 5-star card into a small essay. It’s just not as strong as Shen Sui’s first version, mainly because of the restriction on activation timing. The effect of the failed modification allowed Shen Sui to activate [Feigned Weakness] during the Main Phase, allowing him to summon a monster in the first turn, then activate Feigned Weakness and discard a monster card to prevent the opponent from using hand traps to restrict his development.

The second version can’t do that, but it’s still good overall; at least this card can definitely bring a smile to the opponent’s face.

Shen Sui became even more confident about his duel exam.

Good! Let me see what other surprises my Alice baby has for me?

Shen Sui eagerly returned to the main page, but found a long string of text. It seemed that during the time Shen Sui was printing cards, Alice had done a lot of things.

[The thugs planned to kill all the remaining women.]

[Alice overdrew her magic and unleashed a final Fireball at the thugs.]

[The thugs wouldn’t normally be so afraid. However, the hot air from the burning forest rose, forming a cumulonimbus cloud above the village. A bolt of lightning, guided by the magic, struck Alice’s fireball. The power of the thunderbolt instantly killed several thugs. The thugs thought that the knights of the Thunderbolt Lord’s Church had arrived and scattered.]

[Ding! You obtained the Magic Card: Thunderbolt Strike.]

???

Shen Sui suddenly had a feeling that he didn’t need to guide her; this girl would create great things on her own.

However, this part wasn’t over yet.

[The thugs left, but Alice wasn’t happy. She endured the intense pain of magic backlash, but she didn’t find Anna, her best friend, among the survivors. Anna had been taken away by the thugs.]

[The knights of the Thunderbolt Lord arrived late; they didn’t mind taking credit for driving away the thugs and demanded a huge ransom from the villagers.]

[The knights took away the villagers’ land and the newly harvested wheat fields. Because they had lost all their men and all their land, the village had no more value, and the surviving women decided to go to Andel City to seek refuge with their relatives.]

[Alice’s aunt didn’t take Alice with her. Alice lost all her family and friends.]

What a tragic girl.

Seeing this, Shen Sui felt empathetic. Having family, yet losing all of them—this is why he could so easily accept his own transmigration.

Compared to having a pair of gambler parents who abused each other, being an orphan is much more comforting.
