Chapter 80: A Little Bit of Confidence, I Guess (Please keep reading!)

“I can’t believe I actually managed to get some elemental follower cards!” Yue Tao exclaimed, happily receiving the several wood elemental followers from Shen Sui’s hand.

Shen Sui unplugged the [Elemental Magic Conversion Wheel], now rightfully his, from the device.

On the Dawn Continent, while Alice hadn’t yet caused any trouble for him, Shen Sui had devised a very intense, special forces-style training regimen for her. While this training couldn’t improve Alice’s rank, it could enhance her combat experience, preventing her from relying on tricks for everything.

After all that, Shen Sui had nothing left to do in the Soul Card world. Since he had the elemental follower cards Yue Tao needed, he invited him out to complete their previously agreed-upon trade.

These were all elemental creatures summoned by Ando Li; they were useless to Shen Sui, as his deck would only ever contain girl-form follower cards—there was no room for elemental followers.

Incidentally, currently, only the Fish King and the little mare in Shen Sui’s deck weren’t in girl forms.

I remember… a player once fed several Fish Kings a transformation potion, and they all turned into incredibly cute mermaids.

    Wait… mermaid follower cards…

    Whoa! Tears of joy!

At this thought, Shen Sui jolted.

“What’s wrong?” Yue Tao asked, rather puzzled.

Shen Sui chuckled nervously, thinking that if those Fish Kings really did all turn into girl-form cards, he’d probably have to change their effects. He had no interest in sending his girl-form cards to the opponent’s field.

Seeing Yue Tao’s strange expression, Shen Sui quickly changed the subject. “This card of yours is pretty strong. Are you sure you want to trade it for my elemental followers?”

Shen Sui looked at the [Elemental Magic Conversion Wheel] in his hand. Even in other card games, a card that draws two cards per turn is incredibly powerful. Although this card reduces your Soul Point cap, honestly, in the current Fate Card duel environment, a duel rarely lasts long enough for your Soul Point cap to be depleted; duels often end within seven or eight turns.

This is a card that accelerates the pace of the game; in professional matches, it’s incredibly powerful.

So powerful that Shen Sui couldn’t bear to use it in lower-level competitions.

Yue Tao didn’t mind. “It’s fine. This card would be wasted in my hands. I know my own skill level; I wouldn’t have a chance to make this card shine. If someone can take it to the biggest stage, I’d be happy.”

“Ah,” Shen Sui rotated the card in his hand, saying, “Or maybe it’ll end up on the banned card list.”

“Not that exaggerated, is it?” Yue Tao blinked. “Even if regulations are more relaxed domestically, you can’t just put any card on the banned list, right?”

    Sorry, but I just did.

    Shen Sui thought sarcastically.

“But don’t worry,” Shen Sui grinned, saying to Yue Tao, “I definitely won’t let this card down.”

“Speaking of which, you should be starting your ranking tournament soon, right, Sui Shen?” Yue Tao asked after inserting the elemental follower cards into his Dueling Instrument. “Many people online are guessing what rank you’ll reach.”

Shen Sui was a little confused. “I’m playing a ranking tournament, and people are already guessing? I shouldn’t be that famous yet, right?”

Yue Tao laughed heartily. “Sui Shen is purely collateral damage. Xin Nascent Soulxue just finished her confirmation duel and is now promoting her victory against a Sixth-Rank Fate Card Master all over the place. Everyone’s guessing she’ll become a Fifth-Rank Fate Card Master in the ranking tournament. Didn’t some netizens compare you unfavorably to Xin Nascent Soulxue before? Now her fans are digging up old posts to mock you.”

“Oh, so you follow all this stuff every day,” Shen Sui said sarcastically. He didn’t mind; this online squabble hadn’t affected his real life. Anyone with common sense knew Shen Sui was merely a tool used by netizens who disliked the way elite families promoted their star players.

Yue Tao blinked. “Ah, because I’m a fan of Xiao Xue (Xiaoxue is a nickname for Yingxue).”

“Pfft!” Shen Sui sprayed his cola everywhere, nearly soaking his screen.

Yue Tao chuckled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, I’m a rational fan of Xiao Xue, and I’m not biased against Sui Shen.”

Shen Sui rolled his eyes. “I don’t care about this stuff anyway. If you guys provoke me, the next time I meet Xin Nascent Soulxue in a competition, I’ll definitely make her cry right in front of you.”

He didn’t care because Xin Nascent Soulxue had given him a precious follower card as an apology; he felt she was a decent person, so he didn’t mind this incident.

However, if he ever encountered Xin Nascent Soulxue on the duel field, Shen Sui wouldn’t mind sending her packing with a crushing defeat.

One thing at a time; we won’t be letting up on the duel.

“You’re so cruel. Xiao Xue is so cute.”

“If cuteness wins battles, why even duel?” Shen Sui took out the [Elemental Magic Conversion Wheel], jokingly saying, “Decided. I’ll use this card to defeat Xin Nascent Soulxue.”

“You’re a devil! Speaking of which, someone tried to buy this card for 500,000 yuan a few days ago,” Yue Tao said, remembering something after completing the trade.

“Why didn’t you sell it?” Shen Sui’s interest piqued at the mention of money. He still wanted to get rich and buy assets.

He at least needed a place to live in this world.

“The market in China… if someone suddenly offers you that kind of price, you can immediately tell something’s wrong,” Yue Tao said, because he knew Shen Sui had mentioned looking for suitable card selling channels. “There are a lot of card scams in China.”

“Card scams?” Shen Sui was dumbfounded. “There are even scams like that?”

Yue Tao shrugged. “Of course. Where there’s greed, there’s fraud. They exploit Chinese Fate Card Masters’ dissatisfaction with the official price limits and desire to sell their cards at higher prices, tempting them with high offers. After obtaining ownership of the card through manipulative tactics, they immediately vanish. The mutual trust between Chinese Fate Card Masters was destroyed by these vermin. Initially, private trades and card prices mirroring international standards based on card strength were acceptable. But constant scams resulted in experienced card masters only accepting card-for-card trades.”

This wasn’t a pleasant topic, so they didn’t dwell on it. Their conversation eventually drifted back to Xin Nascent Soulxue and the ranking tournament.

“Although she’s hyped up online, the coach Xiao Xue beat isn’t significantly stronger than the Fifth-Rank Fate Card Masters she defeated before,” Yue Tao said. “That Sixth-Rank Fate Card Master lost to Feng Lintuo in the Silver Moon Unlimited Cup not long ago. Even so, everyone generally believes Xiao Xue should become a Fifth-Rank Fate Card Master in the ranking tournament. I’m so envious. I’m not even sure if I’ll ever reach Fifth Rank.”

“What about you, Sui Shen?” Yue Tao curiously asked. “Do you have confidence in reaching Fourth Rank or higher in the ranking tournament?”

Shen Sui thought for a moment. “I have a little bit of confidence.”
