Chapter 91: He Looked at You (Seeking Subscriptions)

After watching the entire duel, Shen Sui concluded that public opinion was somewhat unfair to Feng Lintuo.

The defeat in the finals wasn’t because Feng Lintuo was unskilled; it was purely a case of being completely countered in terms of style.

Having dueled Feng Lintuo once, Shen Sui knew very well that his entire deck was built around the Soul Card, Lin Zhen.

This wasn’t a mistake; the vast majority of Card Masters’ decks are centered around their Soul Card. However, Feng Lintuo’s mistake was his over-reliance on his Soul Card. Once his Soul Card was dealt with in any way, his duel rhythm would collapse in a very short time, until he found a way to recover Lin Zhen.

This made Feng Lintuo a very easy target.

Destruction, removal from play, bounce, liberation, seizing control.

If the target was just one card, opponents could use countless methods to deal with it. In fact, Yang Liguang did just that. Her finals deck was packed with cards specifically designed to counter Feng Lintuo’s Soul Card, clearly indicating prior research on his deck.

Feng Lintuo was aware of his deck’s flaws, but his approach seemed strange.

He had amassed a large number of Soul Card forms and used those with resistance in the duel.

Shen Sui determined that the vast majority of the Soul Card forms Feng Lintuo used during the duel were resistant, with only a few compromises made for strength.

Even Shen Sui envied the sheer number of Soul Card forms; he had no idea how he managed to obtain so many.

With his weakness exploited and his style countered, Feng Lintuo was on the defensive the entire duel, without a single chance to fight back.

Yang Liguang, known for her taunting personality, seized this advantage and unleashed a barrage of insults.

Things like, “A commoner is a commoner,”

And, “A sewer cockroach will never know the true sun,” and so on.

Shen Sui sensed a deliberate effort.

    Highly deliberate.

The term “commoner” is rarely used in modern everyday Chinese language. It’s more common in Japanese manga, used by villainous characters or arrogant young ladies.

It was unusual to hear such a term from a Chinese player.

Even more jarring was its use in a Fate Card duel.

If you want to taunt someone, at least say “mortal bone” (凡骨); that would sound better.

Regardless, Yang Liguang clearly annoyed most people. The vast majority of the audience supported Feng Lintuo. Traditionally, in Fate Card duels, the loser has no voice; even with many fans, they would mostly remain silent. This time, however, it was different. Yang Liguang’s taunts were met with a chorus of boos from the audience; some angry fans even tried to intervene physically.

The physical disturbance was short-lived, but the online condemnation continued unabated.

Shen Sui casually browsed several forums; everyone was discussing today’s Silver Moon Unlimited Cup finals.

From this perspective, the finals were incredibly hyped. Judging by the public opinion alone, you’d think the Silver Moon Unlimited Cup was some new A-class world championship.

Many were angry, many were disheartened.

Shen Sui saw a group of domestic fans who genuinely loved dueling but consistently received no positive feedback.

The main issue was that Feng Lintuo lost so badly; he was completely overwhelmed in the finals. Anyone could see it was a stylistic counter, but the masses are irrational. Even a slightly more respectable loss wouldn’t have left Feng Lintuo’s supporters so despairing.

    Ah.

Observing this trend, Shen Sui pondered the future.

He aimed for the top; no matter how high the mountains ahead, nothing could stop his progress.

With victory, with progress, even without deliberate persona management, he would gradually gather a large fan base.

Some sincerely hoping for his victory, some opponents trying to use flattery to destroy him, and some purely supporting his background.

So, how should he handle similar situations in the future?

Shen Sui pondered for three seconds before giving up.

Why bother considering how to handle such situations?

As long as I keep winning, all problems will be solved.

Sometimes, real-life matters are that simple.

    Night had fallen.

Beneath the city’s lights, the night sky lacked starlight.

Feng Lintuo huddled in the darkness. The furniture in his rented room was smashed to pieces.

His eyes were bloodshot, intently focused on the only light source in the room—the Dueling Instrument’s screen.

    Not strong enough!

    Not strong enough!

    Not strong enough!

In the single light source, Feng Lintuo’s face was contorted, his eyes vacant, his laughter manic, his muscle spasms meaningless, making him seem like someone from another world.

[Lin Zhen sensed danger; he immediately looked at his phone.]

    [‘Goodbye, Lin Zhen.’]

[The message was short and pale, reminding Lin Zhen of the beautiful girl.]

[She was so beautiful, so gentle; every cold night, she soothed Lin Zhen’s cold heart with her soft body.]

[He turned on the radar; on the screen, countless zombies were surging towards the girl’s location.]

[Lin Zhen didn’t hesitate; he rushed towards her.]

[This time! Even if only once! He wanted to successfully save someone.]

[You stood by, watching Lin Zhen’s actions.]

    It’s coming! It’s coming!

This is the chance to evolve! Lin Zhen! Become stronger! Grow stronger in despair!

[You used the Time Adjuster; you adjusted the flow of time to 1:1.]

[Lin Zhen used every means at his disposal to advance.]

[Forward! Forward! He didn’t want to lose again.]

[The kinetic armor overheated; he discarded it. This was one of the most precious pieces of equipment in the world, the foundation for many people’s survival, yet he didn’t hesitate.]

[Because he couldn’t waste a single second.]

    [However, reality was cruel.]

[Numerous zombies filled the area; the radar had failed; he couldn’t find the girl’s whereabouts.]

    [Lin Zhen shouted, killing.]

[He didn’t understand why, even though he had tried his best, he couldn’t save his lover.]

[Along the way, he lost his lover, his friends, his family.]

[It seemed that everyone connected to him would become unfortunate.]

[He always tried to save others, but never succeeded.]

[His childhood sweetheart, to protect the weak him, died in the apocalypse.]

[His best friend, to support him, was ambushed and killed.]

    [His wife…]

    [His uncle…]

    [His girlfriend…]

    […]

[Past events flashed before Lin Zhen’s eyes; he was desperate and unwilling.]

[When he saw the girl’s mutilated body, this emotion reached its peak.]

[He couldn’t understand why, despite his efforts, fate still loved to torment him.]

[Until death, the girl didn’t make any sound; she clenched her jaw, her hands scratching large bloody marks on the hard ground.]

[She wanted to die quietly, leaving no trace for Lin Zhen to find.]

[Silent disappearance was the last gentleness the girl wanted to give Lin Zhen.]

    [Despair, anger, unwillingness…]

[Countless emotions flooded Lin Zhen’s heart; past events flashed before his eyes like a slideshow.]

    [Why?]

    [Why?!]

    [Why!!!]

    It’s coming! It’s coming!

Feng Lintuo showed an excited expression, a new form! Faster! New form! I need to become stronger! Stronger! I will defeat everyone! Reach the top nationally! Reach the top globally!!!

[Lin Zhen seemed to have understood something.]

[In that most desperate moment, he saw the truth of the world.]

[He had figured everything out; he understood everything.]

    [Lin Zhen slowly turned around.]

    [He looked at you.]

    Going on sale next Friday.
