Chapter 95: My Card is Very Merciful

Shen Sui felt he’d arrived at the wrong time.

The Exploration Bureau was unusually busy today.

Bu Pei also found things odd: “Something seems off today.”

He watched the Exploration Bureau vehicles coming and going outside, his usual nonchalant attitude disappearing.

    “Did something happen?”

“If something really happened, why can we still come in?” Bu Pei was even more puzzled.

Shen Sui turned his head and looked at the empty room.

This was a small room on the first floor of the Exploration Bureau, a place where Exploration Bureau members traded Fate Cards with other Card Masters. Two computers for transferring ownership were in the corner, and several posters advertising the Soul Card world adorned the walls—mostly science fiction worlds.

According to Bu Pei, on the first weekend of every month, Exploration Bureau members would come here to exchange the Fate Cards they’d obtained from the Soul Card world the previous month with Card Masters who had made online appointments and passed the review.

As a government agency, this trade couldn’t involve any money; it was strictly card for card. The advantage was that the Exploration Bureau didn’t have any strength requirements for the cards they received in exchange. They primarily required that the opponent’s Fate Cards possess a certain real-world value within the corresponding Soul Card world.

Cards with real-world value in the Soul Card world were mainly Follower Cards, Event Cards, Environment Cards, and fundamental Magic Cards (like Fireball).

As for the cards that could be exchanged, the variety was vast. Although Exploration Bureau members still dueled for fun privately, they didn’t need to compete in tournaments, so the cards they brought to trade were generally quite strong. For the Card Masters coming to trade, it was a guaranteed win.

During their wait, more Card Masters trickled in.

The trading event didn’t seem to have been interrupted by the Exploration Bureau’s busyness.

Once a certain number of people had gathered, the Card Masters started chatting and trading, some even displaying banners listing the types and desired effects of the cards they needed.

“So you can exchange cards with other Card Masters?” Shen Sui said.

“The Exploration Bureau doesn’t prohibit this,” Bu Pei said, his doubts eased, smiling at Shen Sui. “They even guarantee the transactions here, so everyone is happy to trade and look for the Fate Cards they want. Even monetary transactions are allowed, but everyone prefers to exchange cards.”

    “Isn’t that trading very slow?”

    “But at least it’s trouble-free.”

As more people arrived, the atmosphere in the room became lively. Although they hadn’t seen any Exploration Bureau personnel yet, the enthusiasm of the trading overshadowed people’s concerns.

Shen Sui weaved through the crowd, observing the quality of the cards others were offering for exchange.

Most were ordinary; truly powerful cards were rare.

“Hm? A 14-star card?” Shen Sui stopped in front of a boy holding a sign. “Are you exchanging such a high-level card?”

“Of course,” the boy replied with a smile.

Shen Sui looked at his requirements: the boy seemed to want to exchange for five Follower Cards, with no requirements for star level, type, or effect.

“This condition…” Shen Sui didn’t know whether to say it was high or low. In some Soul Card worlds, Follower Cards were very precious, but in others, they were relatively easy to obtain, such as in Soul Card worlds centered around beast taming.

“Can I take a look at the card?” Shen Sui asked, with a hint of curiosity.

    The boy readily agreed.

    *******

    Card Name: [Mother’s Heart]

    Type: Magic Card

    Star Level: 14 stars

Effect: This card can be activated without paying a cost. Restores 7000 life points to the opponent.

    ******

Shen Sui looked at the card, then looked up at the boy.

“My card is very merciful,” he said, somewhat embarrassed, feeling that the card he was offering for trade was a bit too abstract. Although it was a 14-star Magic Card, restoring the opponent’s life points seemed rather underwhelming.

Shen Sui’s first thought upon seeing the card was [Self-Destruct Switch].

If he could draw the [Self-Destruct Switch] card and combine it with [Mother’s Heart], it would be a perfect combination for giving the opponent the ultimate duel experience.

And there were also those cards that turn life point recovery into damage, capable of one-card kills.

Thinking this way, the card wasn’t weak, but actually very, very strong.

“I’ll take it,” Shen Sui said readily.

He wasn’t just making a joke; this card would be useful for him, combinable with [Red Lotus Fire Alice] to create a life point disparity at the start, allowing Alice to achieve a fatal five-hit combo or even more.

“Ah! Thank you! Thank you!” the boy exclaimed, his face full of joy. He hadn’t expected this card to actually be traded.

Shen Sui traded five Elemental Guards. He could have used Wraith cards, which were purely trash Follower Cards, but since it was a 14-star Magic Card, Shen Sui gave it due respect.

“Actually, I have another card,” the boy said hesitantly. “You might be interested.”

“Oh?” Shen Sui’s interest was piqued.

The boy handed over a permanent Magic Card. Such cards were generally precious in Fate Card duels, but upon seeing the effect, Shen Sui almost couldn’t hold back his laughter.

    *******

    Card Name: [Saint’s Blessing]

    Type: Permanent Magic Card

    Star Level: 12 stars

Effect: While this card is on the field, once per turn for each player, when your opponent takes damage, you can restore 800 life points to them. If you do, you can choose one card from your graveyard/banished zone and return it to your deck.

    ******

Although the card seemed strange, it could recover resources from the banished zone, and its effect wasn’t mandatory, so it wasn’t bad, just… peculiar.

    Shen Sui readily exchanged.

Anyway, as long as Andori was around, he could theoretically draw many Follower Cards.

The trading event atmosphere became increasingly lively, but Shen Sui didn’t find any more good cards.

Bu Pei comforted Shen Sui: “Powerful cards are rare.”

He held several cards in his hand, none of them forbidden cards. Card Masters with forbidden cards, aside from Shen Sui who was intentionally messed with, were usually Fifth Rank or higher, rarely appearing at this kind of trading event. They could exchange cards with the Exploration Bureau by completing tasks.

“So tasks have optional card rewards?” This was the first time Shen Sui had heard of this, and he suddenly felt that compared to the unscrupulous Fate Card Association, the Exploration Bureau was so much more upright.

“Yes, you can request them; the Exploration Bureau usually won’t refuse,” Bu Pei laughed. “Using unwanted Fate Cards as rewards is much more profitable than using departmental funds for bonuses.”

It was noon, and the trading event was almost over, but they still hadn’t seen anyone from the Exploration Bureau.

Many Card Masters who came hoping to find good cards were slightly disappointed.

Shen Sui was about to leave with Bu Pei.

However, at that moment, his phone rang.

“This is Wu Ziqin,” an old man said on the other end of the line.

The writing is stuck; the next chapter will be a little later.
