Chapter 109: Soaring Proficiency (550,000 words update, seeking monthly tickets and subscriptions)

Kakashi happened to be strolling nearby and witnessed the scene. He arrived just as Might Guy was kneeling on the ground. Kakashi was about to intervene when Might Guy suddenly unleashed a burst of power, instantly defeating his opponents.

Kakashi was somewhat baffled by Might Guy’s sudden surge of strength. Now, he truly believed his father’s words: Might Guy would indeed become a formidable rival, perhaps even surpassing him.

“Of course! Because I’m a hardworking genius acknowledged by Teacher Mukugetsu!” Might Guy gave a thumbs-up, a dazzling smile revealing two rows of gleaming white teeth.

After saying this, Might Guy uncontrollably slumped backward; the outburst had exhausted him.

    Kakashi quickly caught him.

“Next time, remember to save enough energy to walk home, or your father will worry,” Kakashi said, hoisting Might Guy onto his back and heading towards his house.

“Haha, isn’t that what best friends are for?” Might Guy laughed.

“I can’t always be around,” Kakashi said, a hint of exasperation in his voice.

After delivering Might Guy to his doorstep and watching him being taken in by Might Dai, Kakashi turned and left. Might Guy’s performance that day had truly astonished him.

Even now, Kakashi couldn’t figure out how Might Guy had suddenly unleashed such overwhelming power with his last two kicks. He should have been completely out of energy.

“Kakashi, the teacher said there’s a mission tomorrow. Don’t be late.”

On his way home, Kakashi encountered two teammates who were looking for him.

“Mm.” Kakashi gave a curt nod, saying nothing and walking directly towards his house.

“So cold, you’d think we owed him a fortune,” one teammate muttered.

“He doesn’t even come to group training, never practices teamwork, but he’s always eager for missions.”

“Well, he is a genius ninja, so let’s just leave him be.”

Despite his exhaustion, Might Guy went to Mukugetsu after dinner. He went every day; if he didn’t, he felt Mukugetsu might worry. Besides, he needed to report on his progress with the breathing technique.

“Teacher Mukugetsu, during a fight today, I suddenly entered a state where my strength and speed increased dramatically. Even my fatigued legs were revitalized,” Might Guy recounted the afternoon’s events.

He downplayed the fight, omitting the part where he was too tired to walk.

Mukugetsu opened her assessment interface to check Might Guy’s breathing technique proficiency.

    Skill: Stone Breathing (Uninitiated: 17/100)

Mukugetsu was shocked. Yesterday, Might Guy’s proficiency was zero; today, it had soared to seventeen.

This was incredible. Yesterday, Obito had the highest proficiency, at six points. Might Guy had jumped from zero to seventeen, almost three times Obito’s.

Mukugetsu analyzed Might Guy’s account, concluding that the critical situation, Might Guy’s suitability for Stone Breathing, and his mindset during the fight had synergistically unlocked his potential, allowing him to grasp the technique’s essence and resulting in a massive proficiency surge.

“Don’t train today. Just watch Obito and Shisui train for a while,” Mukugetsu said.

Might Guy didn’t insist, simply nodding.

While teaching Obito and Shisui, Mukugetsu shared the good news.

“Right now, Gai’s breathing technique progress is number one. He can now use the breathing technique to enhance himself,” Mukugetsu announced.

“Ah, yesterday he didn’t even have any qi sensation. How could he improve so much in a single day?” Obito exclaimed.

As someone practicing breathing techniques, he knew how difficult it was. Moreover, according to Mukugetsu, Might Guy’s Stone Breathing was harder than their Flame Breathing. Obito couldn’t comprehend Might Guy’s rapid advancement.

He felt like Might Guy was cheating.

“Keep practicing hard; you’ll have your breakthrough too,” Mukugetsu said with a smile.

Obito had decent talent for Flame Breathing. If not for Might Guy’s sudden enlightenment, Obito should have consistently maintained the lead in breathing techniques.

Mukugetsu even thought Obito would be the first to master a breathing technique.

Moments of enlightenment don’t come every day. Given the difficulty of Stone Breathing, Might Guy would have to rely on endless practice to improve his proficiency.

However, this was better than before; achieving a breakthrough from zero was significant.

Upon hearing about Might Guy’s phenomenal progress, Obito felt immense pressure. Excluding the almost-over day, only two days remained until the final test.

He had assumed he was secure in the top two; now, it seemed very uncertain.

“Mukugetsu-sama, please bless me with a breakthrough too,” Obito clasped his hands, praying silently.

“Your posture’s wrong!” Mukugetsu separated Obito’s clasped hands.

His prayer was thwarted by Mukugetsu herself.

With his prayer foiled, Obito could only return to training, repeatedly practicing different breathing techniques, feeling the subtle changes in his body.

Thursday, Mukugetsu continued her usual teaching.

However, with the special training nearing its end, she gave her students pep talks at the start of each class.

The special training was almost over, and the improvement rewards hadn’t yet triggered. Mukugetsu felt the students could push themselves for the final two days.

At this point, most of the training goals she had set had been met.

Except for a few new members, Group A had essentially completed their Body Flicker Technique training. How well they used it was another matter; that depended on the individual, but they had all learned it.

Group B members had largely completed their tree-climbing and water-walking practice, their chakra control had significantly improved, and their mastery of the three basic jutsu had also made great strides.

Considering only the original Group B members, their average jutsu score had risen from around seven to over nine.

The excellent students from the lower grades had also rapidly improved during the five weeks of special training, and they would certainly surprise their classmates upon returning to school.

“We have two days left! Everyone, train hard! The Third Hokage will be observing the practical test in two days. Let him see the fruits of your hard work!” Mukugetsu continued to motivate them.

“Finally, the moment to shine!” Metal Lee and Chōji Akimichi exchanged glances and resumed refining their jutsu to give their best performance.

“Will there be dango if I do well?” Temari was only interested in Mukugetsu’s dango rewards.

“I don’t know why we need that old geezer to come,” Asuma grumbled.

Perhaps among the three hundred students, there might be some who weren’t interested in the Third Hokage, but the only one who disliked him was probably Asuma.

“The Third Hokage…” Shisui recalled the history lessons Mukugetsu had taught.

A bit of writer’s block, so it’s slightly late.
