Chapter 19: Early Graduation?
The third day’s exams were much faster; after all, only two students from each of the eight classes per grade were selected from the Ninja School.
Today, like yesterday, non-examinees could choose not to come.
However, quite a few students came to watch the exams today, wanting to see who would be the first-place student in the fourth grade.
“Am I seeing things? Isn’t that Uchiha Obito? Why is he among the examinees?” someone questioned doubtfully.
“Didn’t you follow the news from Class Two yesterday?” the person next to him asked.
“Yeah, I had bad luck yesterday; I met the strongest in our class in the first round and went home after losing.”
“Then that’s normal. Uchiha Obito has become very strong now, even defeating Uchiha Tetsuka from his class.”
The observing students were enjoying the lively discussion of the contestants from each class.
Sometimes, arguments would even arise over who was stronger.
At this time, even those who had previously criticized Obito and Might Guy would try their best to defend them, as they were their class representatives.
“This year’s top student is probably only going to be Shisui,” Mukugetsu concluded after watching the first round, feeling that Obito and Might Guy were likely out of the running.
Hyuga Himon’s Gentle Fist was quite well-cultivated, coupled with the advantage of the Byakugan; Might Guy would find it difficult to win, and Obito even more so.
Mukugetsu could only say that the Hyuga clan ninjas had a significant advantage in the early stages. The Byakugan wasn’t as difficult to awaken as the Sharingan, and their family’s Gentle Fist was an excellent taijutsu technique.
The two had been training with him for too short a time; their strengths were insufficient, and their weaknesses were numerous.
As time passed, the final two rounds began. Obito faced Hyuga Himon, and Might Guy faced a ninja from Class Three, Year Four.
As Mukugetsu predicted, facing Hyuga Himon, Obito was completely overwhelmed by the Gentle Fist before he could even use a single ninja technique.
In the final match, Might Guy’s performance was much better than Obito’s, but his techniques were completely seen through by Hyuga Himon’s Byakugan, still resulting in defeat.
Obito, having lost the match, was somewhat dejected. He had been aiming for first place, but unexpectedly, he didn’t even make it into the top two.
Mukugetsu happened to pass by and comforted him, “Don’t always dwell on your failures. You should think about how much you’ve improved since the last time and strive for the next time.”
After Mukugetsu said this, Obito’s mood immediately improved, because during the end-of-year exam in his third year, he was only ranked 20th in his class. This time, he almost made it to the top two in the entire grade.
Considering this, his improvement was enormous, and first place was within reach!
Then Mukugetsu passed by Might Guy. Unexpectedly, Might Guy also looked somewhat dejected.
Mukugetsu initially thought that with Guy’s willpower, a win or loss shouldn’t matter, but upon further consideration, she found the reason.
It was probably because she had given him the taijutsu training manual yesterday, leading Might Guy to feel the weight of her expectations.
“Failure is always a part of life; that’s life. Don’t let one failure defeat you,” Mukugetsu comforted him.
Might Guy’s body trembled. When it came to failure, he had plenty of experience.
From his entrance exam, where he almost missed becoming a ninja, to his challenge against Kakashi where he was instantly defeated, to being last in every subject and called a “dead last”…
Although he was only eight years old, Might Guy had already experienced countless failures.
He seemed to have a certain understanding of what his father, Might Dai, had said about youth never fading.
“I understand, Mukugetsu-sensei,” Might Guy’s eyes became firmer.
He would not be disheartened by his gains and losses; instead, he would train harder to win in the next battle, until he became the strongest.
Mukugetsu nodded with relief and then went to find Shisui.
When Mukugetsu found Shisui, he was surrounded by a group of students asking him various questions.
When they saw Mukugetsu arrive, the students greeted her one after another.
“Hayashi-sensei, I got second place in the grade! Any rewards?” Benitou walked over to Mukugetsu with a cheerful smile.
Mukugetsu smiled, patted Benitou’s small head, and thought for a moment, “How about I treat you to some dango?” (Dango are small, sweet dumplings)
“Yay, Hayashi-sensei is the best!” Hearing about the dango, Benitou immediately transformed into Mukugetsu’s number one fan.
“Shisui, the first-place student, doesn’t even want a reward, and you’re in such a hurry, Benitou,” Gangzi Tie couldn’t help but tease.
It wasn’t that he really thought Benitou was in a hurry; he was simply a little envious of Benitou.
Worried about his friend’s performance, yet also worried if his friend performed too well, Benitou’s current situation is representative of that.
Mukugetsu chuckled and sent the group of students away, then took Shisui to the commercial street.
“How did it feel?” Mukugetsu asked.
The error-free version is available on the 6X9 book bar! 6X9 book bar first release novel.
Shisui thought for a moment and honestly said:
“It was quite ordinary. There wasn’t anyone who made me fight at full strength.”
“That’s normal. With your strength, no one in the fourth grade is your opponent, let alone the first grade,” Mukugetsu praised without hesitation.
“Then, Mukugetsu-sensei, do you think I should graduate early?” Shisui looked into Mukugetsu’s eyes and asked. Mukugetsu’s eyes were a unique color—the color of the sky.
“Early graduation?”
“Because I heard that some very talented seniors in the past felt that they couldn’t learn anything in the ninja school and graduated early,” Shisui replied.
Mukugetsu shook her head and said, “I don’t recommend graduating in your first year. At least wait until your second or third year.”
“Your strength may be outstanding among your peers, but outside of school, your opponents will not only be your peers, especially now that a large-scale war could break out at any time.”
“If you feel that the ninja school curriculum is meaningless, you can use Shadow Clones to attend school, and your original body can cultivate under my guidance,” Mukugetsu suggested.
Although in the original story, Shisui safely survived the Third Great Ninja War and earned the title of “Shisui of the Body Flicker,” the original story didn’t have her, Mukugetsu Hayase. The butterfly effect is unpredictable.
Mukugetsu still hoped that Shisui would stay in the ninja school for a few more years. What’s the point of graduating if you can’t even defeat a Middle-Ranked Ninja instantly?
If it were her, without the strength of an Upper Ninja, she wouldn’t feel safe walking on the streets of Konoha.
Hearing Mukugetsu’s suggestion, Shisui’s eyes lit up, and he nodded, feeling that her suggestion was excellent.
Afterwards, Mukugetsu took Shisui to buy a bunch of dango and returned to school. Before the afternoon class, every student in Class One, Year One, received a portion of dango.
Mukugetsu wouldn’t really only give one to Benitou, but since she promised, she gave Benitou an extra portion.
“Hayashi-sensei is the best!” Benitou expressed great satisfaction. If she got a few more portions, perhaps a Hayase cult would emerge in Konoha.
Other students also expressed their gratitude, and their already high favorability towards her increased further.
The ninja school was very efficient. Two days after the exam, the results were compiled and announced, verifying Mukugetsu’s guess.
