Chapter 2: On the Advantages of an Orphan’s Starting Point

    [Received reward—Perception Ninja Technique]

[First teaching completed, received reward—Appraisal Technique]

[First teaching rated A completed, received reward—Mastery of Fire-Nature Chakra Transformation]

Receiving three rewards at once pleasantly surprised Muyue. He felt a surge of new memories flood his mind, the most prominent being the memories of cultivating Fire-Nature Chakra transformation.

The memories felt incredibly real, giving Muyue the illusion that he was an old ninja who had dedicated his life to Fire Release.

“Teacher Hayase, may I ask you a question?” Shisui asked respectfully.

Hearing Shisui, Muyue, who was about to re-examine his panel evaluation, stopped. He took Shisui to the deserted back of the school building and used his Perception Ninja Technique to sense the area. There were no particularly strong chakra signatures.

Muyue relaxed, smiling slightly. “Is there something you didn’t understand from the lesson? Go ahead.”

Shisui shook his head. “It’s not about the lecture content, but I have a question.”

“Teacher, as you know, the Senju and Uchiha clans jointly founded Konoha. But why is it that everyone only remembers the Senju clan and rarely mentions the Uchiha’s contributions?”

Though a child, Shisui was exceptionally mature and perceptive. When going out with his elders, he noticed the strange looks passersby gave them upon seeing their clan emblem.

Both clans were founding heroes, yet why were the Uchiha not only uncredited but seemingly disliked by the villagers? Shisui couldn’t understand.

Looking at the bewildered Shisui, Muyue silently muttered in his heart, “What kind of reputation does Hashirama Senju have in Konoha? What kind of reputation does Madara Uchiha have? Can those even be compared?”

“You’ve only read some of your clan’s history, haven’t you?” Muyue asked.

Shisui nodded. Currently, he only had access to the Uchiha’s version of history.

“The situation today is the result of many events. It’s hard to explain in a short time,” Muyue said, feigning difficulty.

Seeing Muyue’s hesitation, Shisui felt guilty. The question seemed more complex than he imagined. He was about to say he’d forget it, when Muyue spoke again.

“Forget it. If you have time after school, come find me, and I’ll tell you about this history.” Muyue sighed.

“After all, I owe the Uchiha clan a debt of gratitude. Consider this my repayment.”

Shisui was confused. Why would Muyue owe them a debt? He asked directly.

“My parents were surrounded by enemies during a war and saved by a ninja named Uchiha Kagami. Though they eventually died in a later war, I’ve always remembered their life-saving grace,” Muyue said with a grateful (but fabricated) tone.

He was grateful that his original self was already an orphan; otherwise, his room for maneuvering would be much smaller.

He had to admit, sometimes dead people were more useful than living ones.

Shisui’s eyes widened, his face showing an incredible expression. Uchiha Kagami was his grandfather. He never expected to have such a connection with Muyue. He felt a strange sense of fate.

However, Shisui wasn’t the type to use this to his advantage. He simply thanked Muyue.

Before Shisui left, Muyue used the Appraisal Technique on him.

    [Name: Uchiha Shisui]

    [Chakra: 500]

    [Potential: SS-]

[Evaluation: Six Paths Lineage, suitable for cultivating Fire Release and Genjutsu, extremely high potential, recommended for discipleship]

Walking back to his office, Muyue marveled. “No wonder he’s a powerhouse capable of activating Susano’o with one eye. Those two glittering S’s are so dazzling, even the system recommends taking him as a disciple.”

Muyue then opened his own panel to check if his evaluation had changed.

    [Name: Hayase Muyue]

    [Age: 18]

    [Chakra: 4300]

[Evaluation: Master of Fire-Nature Chakra Transformation. Your limited chakra restricts your strength. If you can overcome this weakness, you would be considered an elite among Upper-nin.]

“It seems that mastery of Fire-Nature Chakra Transformation is even stronger than I imagined,” Muyue thought. He realized he might have underestimated the meaning of “mastery.”

He initially thought it might be equivalent to the knowledge of an Upper-nin regarding chakra nature transformation. Now it seemed that, in terms of Fire-Nature Chakra Transformation alone, he might be at the level of the Third Hokage.

After all, he was someone who, besides a couple of Fire Release techniques, only knew the Body Flicker Technique, the three basic techniques (Henge no Jutsu, Bunshin no Jutsu, Kawarimi no Jutsu), and some basic taijutsu. With this level, after receiving the rewards and boosting his chakra, he could reach the level of an elite Jonin.

Elite Jonin… that’s at least the level of Kakashi and Asuma at the start of the story, right?

His strength had greatly increased, making Muyue happy. But remembering his Root affiliation, his joy faded.

Firstly, the Root curse mark on his body made him feel insecure. Secondly, Danzo Shimura, that old bastard, liked sending his subordinates to their deaths, making him even more insecure.

“I need to take on some disciples quickly and improve my strength. Even if I can’t reach the point of killing Danzo and leaving gracefully, I need to be able to protect myself,” Muyue set a short-term goal.

Muyue entered his office and found three other teachers—two men and a woman—complaining about their students.

Muyue knew them, having met his colleagues before his first day.

He used the Appraisal Technique on each of them.

    [Name: Ikegaya Yu]

    [Chakra: 2000]

    [Potential: C]

[Evaluation: A cannon fodder Middle-Ranked Ninja]

The data for the three teachers were similar; all were labeled as cannon fodder by the system.

“I’m so unlucky. Why did Class 4-2 fall into my hands? I already have Class 3-1. How am I supposed to teach them? Both Might Guy and Uchiha Obito, two major underachievers, are in Class 4-2!” Ikegaya Yu helplessly spread his hands.

“My family also arranged a blind date for me tomorrow afternoon, right when I have Class 4-2.”

“Ask another teacher with a free period to help, or just take a leave. The blind date is more important,” Ueda Aya suggested.

Ueda Aya noticed Muyue entering and greeted him with a smile. “Teacher Hayase, how was your first lesson? Did my little tricks help?”

Muyue recalled the enthusiastic female teacher’s advice to help him overcome his first-day jitters by silently repeating “Radishes and cabbages” during the lesson.

Muyue politely replied, “Thank you, the tricks were very useful. But after class, the students advised me not to be a picky eater.”

“Haha, Teacher Hayase, you’re so funny,” Ueda Aya laughed, thinking that since Muyue could still joke, his first day must have gone well.

“Teacher Ikegaya, I’m free tomorrow afternoon. If you need it, I can substitute for you,” Muyue placed his lesson plan on the desk, acting like a good Samaritan.

Unlike other teachers, Muyue wanted to be fully booked every day. And with Obito and Might Guy in Class 4-2, he definitely wanted to take a look.

Ikegaya Yu’s face brightened, and he quickly thanked Muyue, promising to treat him to a meal.

In the Hokage’s office, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, watched Muyue earnestly explaining the Will of Fire through the crystal ball. He stroked his goatee, feeling that this Root shinobi wasn’t bad—a young man who understood the Will of Fire.

Danzo thought he was well-hidden, but the Third Hokage had already learned about some of the ninjas trained by Root who hadn’t been officially added to the Root roster.

The Third Hokage thought Danzo was at least cultivating strength for Konoha, so he wouldn’t intervene unless he went too far.

However, he valued the Ninja Academy, so he personally watched Muyue’s first class. To his surprise, the Root ninja’s first lesson was about the Will of Fire, instilling a sense of responsibility in his students. This impressed the Third Hokage.

“Let’s see how he performs. If he’s talented, let him leave Root.”

Muyue’s current performance wasn’t enough for the Third Hokage to ask Danzo for him.

Though Danzo’s ninjas were essentially his own, the Third Hokage still had to consider his old comrade’s feelings.

With that, the Third Hokage stopped his observation and started processing documents, planning to inspect Konoha again in the evening.

After dinner, Shisui searched for Muyue’s residence at the designated location.

Muyue lived in the sparsely built southeastern part of Konoha, a remote area far from the main city.

Thanks to the few buildings, Shisui quickly found Muyue’s home: a single-story wooden house in a simple yard.

As soon as Shisui entered the yard, he saw a sight that left him speechless and shocked.
