Chapter 75: Physical Technique Challenge and Summer Training (Seeking Follow-up Reads)

“The physical technique challenge has two levels. The first is a forest sprint. I’ve set up numerous traps and mechanisms in a certain area of the forest. Each trap you trigger or mechanism that hits you deducts one point. Three points deducted means you fail the challenge.”

“There are three chances?” Obito felt that the challenge沐月 described wasn’t too difficult.

Setting traps is one of the courses ninjas learn, so Obito was familiar with this.

“And I’ll send a Shadow Clone that’s slightly slower than you to follow you. If you’re too slow and the Shadow Clone catches you, that’s also a failure,” 沐月 added.

If you walked slowly, step by step, it would naturally be easy to avoid the traps, but with someone chasing behind you, it might not be so easy.

“And Teacher 沐月’s Shadow Clone is chasing behind,” Obito suddenly felt it wasn’t that simple.

“As long as you maintain a good speed, the Shadow Clone won’t catch you,” 沐月 said with a smile.

“Then, Teacher 沐月, can you take me to try the challenge?” Obito wanted to try it first.

“Mm, let me give you the challenge fee first.” 沐月 took out three exam papers and said, “There are about a hundred questions here, consider it the fee to start the challenge.”

“Ah?” Obito stared blankly at the exam papers 沐月 handed him. It was actually a paid challenge, but why was 沐月 paying him?

“Teacher 沐月, I don’t think this is right. How can the boss pay the customer? How about I give you three exam papers as the challenge fee?” Obito, seeing the three exam papers, felt a little dizzy and started rambling.

    *Slap!*

沐月 tapped the dazed Obito with two joined fingers and laughed:

“Do you think I don’t need time to set up the course? Without some compensation, if you fail once and keep bothering me to challenge, I’ll be exhausted setting up the traps.”

The tap snapped Obito back to his senses, and he gave an embarrassed, goofy smile. He felt that what 沐月 said made sense.

“Teacher 沐月, you’ve worked hard,” Obito stood on a rock and gave 沐月 a shoulder massage.

“But I think the numbers one hundred and three are both bad; two is pretty good. How about we compromise and do only two questions? I promise I won’t trouble Teacher 沐月 too much.”

“Use a little more strength,” 沐月 prompted.

“Then what about the questions?” Obito’s face lit up.

“Alright, if you really like the number two, then let’s change it to two hundred and fifty questions,” 沐月 gave a benevolent smile.

“Um, actually, I also quite like three and one hundred,” Obito instantly changed his expression, immediately changing his words.

“Stop being cheeky, I’ll take you to the challenge area.” 沐月 grabbed Obito and used Shunshin (a high-speed movement technique) to quickly take Obito to the challenge location.

Obito looked around, but didn’t find anything different between this place and other parts of the forest; only the trees were thicker.

“Just keep walking east, and you’ll reach the finish line. My Shadow Clone will start three seconds after you,” 沐月 pointed in a direction.

Hearing 沐月’s words, Obito nodded, took a deep breath, and ran at full speed, glancing back worriedly at the Shadow Clone as he ran.

However, not paying attention while running has serious consequences.

Obito stepped right into a rope trap set by 沐月 and was hung up in a tree.

“Minus one point,” 沐月’s warm voice entered Obito’s ears.

“One more thing, if you don’t get out of the trap quickly, the Shadow Clone will be starting.”

Hearing 沐月’s words, Obito suddenly remembered his one hundred-question entrance fee. He absolutely couldn’t fail at the gate; that’s three whole exam papers!

Obito used his abdominal strength to do an inverted crunch, grabbed the rope, burned it with fire release, and then sprinted eastward.

After that setback, Obito paid extra attention to the ground, avoiding any place that looked even slightly unusual.

“It seems that as long as I’m careful, this challenge isn’t that hard,” Obito smiled after running for a minute without triggering any more traps.

But the next moment, Obito’s smile vanished. Without touching anything, several thick pieces of wood suddenly swung towards him, moving back and forth like a swing set.

Obito finally understood why 沐月 said he couldn’t have completed it before.

It was because Obito was used to Kakashi’s Shunshin, his reaction speed had improved. A month ago, he would have been knocked flying by the wood.

Although Obito could avoid the attacks, his speed slowed down, and he was caught by the Shadow Clone that caught up to him, failing the challenge.

“I knew I should have just taken the hit and lost only one point,” Obito regretted. He actually could have been faster.

“Why not make your speed and reactions faster, so you can pass through the trap area more quickly?” 沐月 reminded him.

This challenge wasn’t meant to train Obito’s ability to take a beating.

The error-free version is available on 6Ⅹ9ⅩbookⅩbar! First release on 6Ⅹ9book-bar.

The purpose of this Shunshin challenge was to train Obito’s responsiveness to better cultivate Shunshin later.

“If only I had Shunshin, I could have instantly dodged all the traps and gotten past,” Obito concluded after thinking.

“Go cultivate,” 沐月 said, “That’s a good thought, but don’t think about it again next time.”

Since it was Saturday, in the afternoon, 沐月 went to Asma’s house to start that week’s cultivation with him.

“Third Hokage-sama,” 沐月 found Sarutobi Hiruzen at home and greeted him.

When 沐月 arrived, Sarutobi Hiruzen was sitting in a chair in the living room, constantly puffing on his pipe, seeming to be pondering something.

“You’re here to train Asma, right? He’s waiting for you in the backyard,” Sarutobi Hiruzen took the pipe from his mouth and replied with a smile.

Suddenly, Sarutobi Hiruzen remembered 沐月’s absurd achievements yesterday and asked, “沐月, if a great war breaks out in the ninja world, and Konoha is involved, what would you do?”

沐月 thought for a moment and smiled, “As a teacher, I would give my students special training to strengthen their abilities. I would do my best to strengthen the village. As a Konoha ninja, I am willing to fight for the village!”

Based on the news of the Third Kazekage’s disappearance yesterday, combined with his own demonstrated abilities, 沐月 vaguely guessed Sarutobi Hiruzen’s thoughts.

沐月 didn’t mind the Third Hokage’s thoughts; he even worried that he was overthinking and intentionally guided the Third Hokage towards the direction he wanted him to continue talking.

Sarutobi Hiruzen nodded; he was very satisfied with 沐月’s answer.

Then Sarutobi Hiruzen told 沐月 about the disappearance of the Third Kazekage and that war was about to break out.

“I think we can gather the graduating fourth-year students for summer training to enhance their abilities. Other excellent students from other grades can also join,” 沐月 offered his suggestion.

This way, Obito and others could have more intense training, and he could continue to gain rewards from teaching classes.
