Chapter 79: Group Teaching
Hinata Raitō returned to the team with a dejected look.
He wasn’t upset about losing, because the strength Uchiha Shisui displayed was truly formidable; he was simply outmatched.
But he felt incredibly frustrated. A formally-ranked genin (junior ninja) defeated by a student fresh from the ninja academy, and defeated so cleanly and decisively.
“That Uchiha Shisui is too strong! He even defeated a formally-ranked genin. Even if it were Kakashi of the same age, he might not have done any better, right?”
“There’s also another possibility—the opponent…”
Hearing the ninja academy students’ discussion about him, Hinata Raitō felt even more ashamed.
As soon as Hinata Raitō returned, he saw an unrestrained smile on Asma’s face.
“Asma, do you know something?” Hinata Raitō looked at Asma with suspicion.
He thought about it carefully; something seemed off.
Earlier, when Asma brought them for special training, he mentioned that Miyuki was his tutor, so it’s possible Asma knew about a genius named Uchiha Shisui in Miyuki’s class.
“Know what?” Asma feigned ignorance. “How would I know that first-year student is so powerful? He took care of you, Raito, in two or three moves.”
Hearing Asma’s words, Hinata Raitō felt another arrow pierce him. Being taken down by a first-year student in two or three moves was truly embarrassing.
“Everyone, quiet down.” Miyuki pressed his palm downwards, signaling everyone to stop discussing. “We have students from the first to fourth years here, as well as some already graduated genin. You’re all companions from the same village; I hope you can get along harmoniously.”
“I’ll be conducting a strength test to group you for special training. There will be three groups: A, B, and C, each receiving different training.” Miyuki answered Hinata Raitō’s earlier question.
With so many students from different grades and some graduated genin, Miyuki couldn’t teach them all the same things, so he opted for group teaching.
Since they were all in the same training ground, he could teach one group, then move to another. With the help of Shadow Clones, he could effectively teach three groups as if they were three individual students.
The strength test was simple: students would demonstrate their proficiency in basic ninja skills like ninjutsu, taijutsu (martial arts), and shurikenjutsu (throwing weapons), and then the teachers would score them.
Miyuki called over some teacher’s academy instructors, and within a single class period, they completed the scoring and grouping of over three hundred students.
Miyuki positioned Group A as the genin-level group, for graduated genin and excellent ninja academy students. The main training content would focus on chakra control, physical conditioning and taijutsu, and body flicker technique.
Group B consisted of excellent academy students. The main training content was the three basic ninja techniques (ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu), chakra control, and physical conditioning and taijutsu.
Group C was for ordinary academy students. The training content was similar to Group B, but the material would be simpler, and the training volume would be relatively less.
Miyuki glanced at Group A’s roster and immediately saw many familiar names.
Obito, Shisui, Might Guy—these were naturally expected. And also Asma, Yuuhi Kurenai, Ino Yamanaka, Shizune…
Those who could make it into Group A, besides Shisui, were mostly either genin or fourth-year students who ranked high in their grade.
In Group B, Miyuki only saw three familiar faces: Ebisu,月光疾風 (Tsukiakari Hayate), and Haruno Sakura.
Ebisu’s situation was a bit awkward. Compared to others in Group B, his skill was good, but fell slightly short of Group A. Tsukiakari Hayate had just entered his third year.
Akido, Tenzō, and Shikamaru Nara, the trio of brothers-in-arms, ended up in Group C. This was because the definition of “excellent” versus “ordinary” was based on fourth-year standards.
Although the three could master lightning release in their first year, they were considered ordinary by fourth-year standards.
Miyuki first went to the area where Group A was located and said:
“Those who completed the water-walking and tree-climbing training, stand to the right. Those who only completed the tree-climbing training, stand to the left. Those who completed neither, stand in the middle.”
Most people went to the left, a few to the right, and very few to the middle.
Then, he had those on the left try tree-climbing, and those on the right try water-walking.
Observing the students training, Miyuki got a general idea of Group A’s chakra control level.
Obito, Asma, Shisui, and Might Guy no longer needed water-walking practice; the others still did.
“That’s not what I call completing the training; you’ve only mastered a little bit.” Miyuki said to a student who was climbing a tree.
Miyuki then had Obito demonstrate what it truly meant to have completed the tree-climbing and water-walking training.
Obito dashed up the tree, then pressed his feet firmly against the branches, spinning his entire body three hundred and sixty degrees a dozen times, his feet still firmly adhering to the branches.
Then, Obito demonstrated another move, effortlessly traversing the water’s surface amidst the interference of a water bullet.
“Only when you reach this level can you say you’ve completed the training,” Miyuki pointed to Obito. “Currently, only Asma, Shisui, and Obito among you can achieve this level.”
Hinata Raitō, not believing it, went down to try, but he couldn’t last three minutes before needing to drink water.
“Asma can do it?” Hinata Raitō felt that Miyuki might have overestimated Asma’s abilities.
“Raito, don’t underestimate me! My chakra control is quite strong,” Asma, seeing his good friend didn’t believe him, went down to show off his skills.
“It feels like Asma secretly got stronger…” Hinata Raitō, looking at Asma, who was steady as a rock amidst the waves, was filled with doubt.
“Asma, you’ve become much better,” Kurenai honestly commented.
“Haha, it’s just so-so, all basic skills,” Asma, hearing Kurenai’s praise, couldn’t bring his upturned lips down.
He instantly felt that all the water he drank during his training with Miyuki had been worthwhile.
“Chakra control is a mandatory course for ninjas. I hope that in two weeks, all of you can stand on the right,” Miyuki demonstrated several times for Group A’s students before saying this.
Then, Miyuki went to Group B and asked the same question again.
But the situation in Group B was different. Only Ebisu was standing on the right; most were in the middle, and a few on the left.
Miyuki had them demonstrate their chakra control levels, which were far inferior to Group A. Except for Ebisu, Miyuki had everyone else practice tree-climbing, while Ebisu continued to practice water-walking.
For Group C, Miyuki didn’t ask any more questions, but instead directly began teaching taijutsu.
Miyuki’s training plan for Group C was to train their physical strength and practice taijutsu in the morning, and cultivate the three basic ninja techniques in the afternoon. Once they caught up, they could begin chakra control training.
Miyuki left a shadow clone in each group, while his original body patrolled among the three groups, demonstrating and correcting any student’s incorrect training.
Soon, the morning passed, and Miyuki announced the end of class and the start of lunch break.
