Chapter 104: The Battle Begins (Subscription Request)
Gu Xi’s Skeleton Soldiers, regardless of their squad, all followed behind the Morning Sunlight Guild’s skeletons.
When deploying these troops, Gu Xi had already observed that the enemy’s Ghostly Spirits were roughly comparable in strength to the Morning Sunlight Guild’s Skeleton Soldiers, both around levels 5 to 6.
However, Gu Xi’s five thousand five hundred undead troops held a numerical advantage.
While a complete rout wasn’t guaranteed, the losses wouldn’t be significant.
Deploying his Skeleton Soldiers amongst the Morning Sunlight Guild’s skeletons at this time, letting them participate in peaceful skirmishes and mop up kills was the optimal use of the current situation.
After deploying his forces, Gu Xi glanced back but didn’t see Luna, who should have been there.
This startled Gu Xi; had something happened to Luna?
Just as Gu Xi was about to inquire about the situation, the Light Arrow Squad also launched their attack.
Unlike Gu Xi’s hundred-plus Skeleton Archers, the Light Arrow Squad, while also Skeleton Archers, used arrows imbued with a clear light attribute.
When the arrows were loosed into the air, it gave the impression of a rain of light.
As the Morning Sunlight Guild charged forward, the Ghostly Spirits had also advanced more than ten paces, preparing for a head-on collision.
However, before they could reach the Morning Sunlight Guild’s ranks, they were struck by the light arrows.
Upon impact, the arrows created bowl-sized wounds on their bodies.
Worse, this sunlight-imbued attack inflicted heavy damage on the Ghostly Spirits.
Some Ghostly Spirits struck in vital areas even vaporized on the spot, leaving only their bronze armor pierced by arrows on the ground.
“Powerful.”
Witnessing this scene, Gu Xi couldn’t help but marvel at the strength of this undead force.
This was just two types of Skeleton Soldiers. If the zombies comparable to weak Bone Dragons, and the even stronger Ghostly Spirits joined the battle, what would the result be?
While Gu Xi pondered this, the Morning Sunlight Guild had already clashed with the Ghostly Spirits.
The Morning Sunlight Guild’s Skeleton Soldiers, wielding swords and shields, appeared as basic Skeleton Soldiers from the outside. However, their swords and shields were anything but ordinary. As they charged forward,
each Skeleton Soldier’s shield formed a shell-like defense in front of them, while their long swords transformed into white light swords, clearly not ordinary weapons.
With a single strike of this light sword, regardless of the thickness of the Ghostly Spirits’ armor, it would be cleaved apart.
A hit to the head or chest could even instantly kill the Ghostly Spirits.
The Ghostly Spirits also displayed formidable combat prowess, directly engaging the Morning Sunlight Guild’s Skeleton Soldiers in melee combat, their large swords clashing against the skeletons. Even grievously wounded, they would still try to strike a skeleton.
Most of their attacks were blocked by the defensive shields; it took at least four strikes from the Ghostly Spirits to shatter one such shield.
However, four strikes were more than enough time for the Skeleton Soldiers to deal significant damage.
Ordinary Ghostly Spirits could only manage two hits on a Skeleton Soldier, some failing to land even a single blow before being felled.
Faced with such overwhelming combat power, Gu Xi was momentarily at a loss.
Could this be the thrill of being an Undead Mage—deploying one’s undead army and then simply watching the show?
At this moment, the large, bearded man atop the beast finally moved. He took a bite out of a large leg, then tossed the remainder to the beast below.
“Die!”
The bearded man roared, leaping into the air before landing heavily in the thickest part of the battle.
*Boom!* The blue-clad, bearded man landed directly in the heart of the conflict.
More than ten Skeleton Soldiers were instantly thrown into the air.
The bearded man then wreaked havoc on the battlefield, brutally beating any Skeleton Soldier he encountered.
Regardless of their strength, none of the Skeleton Soldiers could withstand three blows from the bearded man; some were even killed with a single punch.
The previously dominant Morning Sunlight Guild suddenly found themselves on the defensive.
“Ghostly Spirits, attack!”
Seeing this turn of events, Gu Xi decisively issued his command, and two squads of Ghostly Spirits simultaneously charged towards the bearded man.
Seeing the approaching Ghostly Spirits, the bearded man glanced at Gu Xi in surprise.
He hadn’t expected Gu Xi to see through his weakness so quickly.
This bearded man’s power resided entirely in his fists and feet; if forced to use weapons, his strength would decrease by a third, and even more so if mounted on a warhorse. His true strength was in unarmed combat.
But unarmed combat posed a serious problem: his attacks were physical.
Fighting Ghostly Spirits meant being countered by them.
Therefore, the bearded man typically avoided battles against Ghostly Spirits.
It seemed that the enemy commander was perceptive.
The bearded man silently praised Gu Xi in his heart before roaring, “Bloodred, kill that commander!”
The beast, which had been lying on the ground, then sprang to life, using its hands to prop itself up before letting out a deafening roar.
Upon hearing the roar, Gu Xi smelled a strong sulfurous odor.
“This guy… could he be a demon?”
Before Gu Xi could finish his sentence, the beast had already leaped into the air and charged towards Gu Xi at the rear of the battlefield.
“Zombies, engage!”
Gu Xi still had ample reserves. Fifteen hundred heavily armored zombies were positioned near him. Their slow movement prevented immediate deployment onto the battlefield.
But for defense in front of the commander, they were perfect.
Following Gu Xi’s orders, the fifteen hundred heavily armored zombies formed fifteen thick lines of defense. The zombies at the back didn’t even bother with shields; instead, they used iron hooks with chains, intending to entangle and kill the beast.
However, Gu Xi never imagined the beast’s strength to be so overwhelming. The moment it collided with the heavily armored zombies, it swiped with its forepaws, sending six heavily armored zombies flying.
Then, the beast’s single eye glared, and a gray beam shot out.
Under the beam’s assault, five heavily armored zombies had their upper bodies melted away.
After easily brushing aside the first line of heavily armored zombies, the beast strode towards Gu Xi.
The distance of several dozen meters was negligible for such a huge beast, barely taking seven or eight steps.
The heavily armored zombies reacted swiftly enough; those with shields raised them, while those with iron hooks launched them, but none of these could stop the beast’s advance.
As the beast was about to reach Gu Xi, Gu Xi showed no fear. He raised his Fragmentation Rod.
“Bone Spikes, Bone Spikes, Bone Spikes, Death Avatar!”
