Chapter 15: The Undead Trinity (Seeking Follows)

    Death City?

Seeing the prompt pop up, Gu Xi was startled.

He clearly remembered learning in class that Death City, along with Death Lord and Death Avatar, were known as the Undead Mage’s starting trinity of god-tier skills.

[Death Lord: All neutral undead creatures in the wild (excluding Black Knights and Mummies) will join the player’s forces. The initial joining rate is 50%, and the joining rate increases by 2% for each level the Death Lord skill increases.]

With the Death Lord skill, if you’re out of troops, a quick trip to a graveyard or any undead-themed game or dungeon will replenish your army upon your return. This is even faster than using a Soul Summoning spell to expand your forces.

[Death Avatar: The player can consume all their mana to summon a Death Avatar on the battlefield. The Death Avatar’s level is equal to the player’s level + 8, and at certain levels, the Death Avatar will possess various different characteristics.]

For example, at level 1, the Death Avatar possesses undead creature attributes; at level 5, it has a Curse Attack special ability; at level 9, it has an Intangible special ability; at level 13, it has a Death Fear special ability (all enemy morale -1); at level 17, it has a Grieving Attack special ability (target morale and luck -2 when attacked); at level 21, it has a Life Drain special ability; and at level 25, it has a Critical Strike special ability.

Having a Death Avatar is like having a powerful bodyguard by your side, making you almost invincible.

To be considered among the top-tier skills alongside these two powerful abilities as the Undead Mage’s starting trinity, Death City naturally has its own incredible advantages.

[Death City: Players possess their own mobile undead city. The city’s level cap is equal to the player’s level + 8, and at certain levels, Death City will provide support to the player in different ways.]

For instance, at level 1, you can open the gates of Death City, allowing the undead troops within to quickly support the player; at level 5, you can deploy Soul Summoning Towers on the battlefield to absorb battlefield souls, assisting the player’s Soul Summoning spell; at level 9, you can directly deploy the city walls and moat to the battlefield, and so on.

Starting with Death City makes a player virtually invincible in large-scale battles.

After all, they can turn any field battle into a siege battle at any time.

This is an ultra-powerful skill that even tens of thousands of Undead Mages might not randomly obtain at the start.

Gu Xi never imagined he would have such an opportunity during his job selection.

He initially thought that successfully completing the job selection would be considered a success.

Finding special skills like Soul Hunter or Resurrection would have been a bonus.

But now, with a trinity of god-tier skills before him, Gu Xi’s eyes turned red.

He drew his scimitar, raised it above his head, and shouted, “Everyone, gather! Prepare for battle!”

At Gu Xi’s command, all the skeletons turned to look at him.

Gu Xi ignored them and took out the Ghost Qi Pearls he had retrieved from the Skeleton Commanders, distributing them among the four commanders.

“Quickly strengthen yourselves. We have a tough battle ahead. Also, don’t just stand there; go around and demolish buildings to create roadblocks. The enemy might be numerous; don’t let them approach.”

The Skeleton Commanders had wanted to return the Ghost Qi Pearls they had obtained during the previous battle to Gu Xi.

Seeing Gu Xi directly distributing the pearls, they refrained from doing so. All the skeletons quickly strengthened their weapons or bodies. The skeleton squads that had suffered casualties rapidly replenished their ranks from the reserve soldiers.

After distributing everything, Gu Xi finally had time to look at his troops.

He discovered that during the short time he was inside the small building, these skeletons had been through a major battle.

The enemies were of higher level, but their combat experience was lacking.

While not as unintelligent as the black-robed cultists he had previously killed—reacting only when struck—they weren’t far off. They only attacked enemies blocking their path; if you didn’t obstruct them, they wouldn’t retaliate, even if you were hacking at them from behind.

Initially, the skeletons stood their ground against these ghostly figures, resulting in a significant clash with substantial losses of over twenty skeletons.

Their losses gradually decreased only after discovering the ghostly figures’ attack patterns.

However, the initial losses were irreplaceable. Most importantly, these ghostly figures left no corpses behind, rendering many of Gu Xi’s methods useless.

Many of the Undead Mage’s skills require corpses.

Without corpses, Gu Xi couldn’t even use Soul Summoning, let alone his most effective skill, Corpse Explosion.

Watching the skeletons busy themselves, Gu Xi’s expression grew grave.

At that moment, strange sounds came from the other end of the street.

Gu Xi looked in that direction and saw approximately three hundred black figures crowded together, charging towards him and his skeletons.

These black figures didn’t appear particularly unusual, but Gu Xi noticed something different in their movements.

These black figures were clearly more agile, and most of them carried weapons.

However, unlike normal people, their weapons were the limbs of their own kind.

Among this group, a significantly taller black figure stood out, wielding a spear composed of over ten arms.

He seemed to be the leader of the black figures.

“Combat Squad 3, prepare yourselves. Other skeletons, what are you waiting for? Finish those roadblocks!”

Gu Xi kept his eyes on the direction and speed of the black figure group while ordering his troops to prepare for battle.

Combat Squad 3 had just absorbed a batch of Ghost Qi Pearls. While their levels hadn’t significantly increased, their weapons, equipment, and bodies had changed.

Some relatively thin armor had appeared on the skeletons, and the four commanders were now wearing almost complete sets of armor.

This showed that Gu Xi’s skeletons were constantly growing stronger.

“No corpses, so be it. It’s just the beginning; a start is enough. Even if we all perish in this battle, as long as I get these god-tier skills, I won’t regret it.”

Gu Xi encouraged himself, then raised his head, pointed his scimitar forward, and commanded,

    “Combat Squad 3, spear attack!”

Under Gu Xi’s command, Combat Squad 3 moved forward to the unfinished roadblocks.

This squad’s weapons were spears. After stopping, they quickly formed two ranks and, under the command of their skeleton commander, raised their spears to target the approaching black figures.

    “Charge!”
