Chapter 24: Alierdo City (Seeking Readership)

[Ding! You have gained control of a city (Alierdo)!]

[A player-owned undead city has been discovered. Do you wish to lock it as a Death City?]

Even before seeing Alierdo’s information, Gu Xi immediately made his decision.

    “Lock!”

[Lock successful. Death City – Alierdo. To unlock the city, please select an unlock mission!]

After the message faded, Gu Xi looked at the map before him.

Gu Xi discovered that the map on his desk showed a large portion of Alierdo. Besides the 0.9 square kilometers that had become his territory, it also included about a third of the surrounding city map.

The map used a black skull wearing a crown to mark the location of the council hall. Triangles, squares, and pentagons represented small, medium, and large plots of land, respectively.

Within the 0.9 square kilometers, there were five small plots, one of which was already occupied: a well that doubled as a sewer entrance.

There were three medium-sized plots, one of which was occupied: a candle factory.

There were two large plots, one of which was occupied: a church.

As Gu Xi looked at each plot, corresponding prompts appeared, indicating the function of occupied plots, activation requirements, or what buildings could be constructed on unoccupied plots.

Furthermore, at the city’s edge, there were passages leading to other areas. Gu Xi counted five such passages, each marked with its corresponding destination.

Each passage was marked with a cross, indicating that all five paths were currently impassable.

However, it was clear that once these passages were opened, other areas of Alierdo City could be occupied.

After reviewing the city’s general layout, Gu Xi glanced at the information at the bottom of the map to understand Alierdo’s details.

    [City Name: Alierdo

    City Type: Death City

City Characteristics: Contested Territory (More than half of the city is uncontrolled; the city is susceptible to attacks from enemies in uncontrolled areas. Conquering the city will automatically expand its territory.)

City Level: Level 1 (9/10, the city gains 3 experience points for a Special Building and large buildings, 2 experience points for medium buildings, and 1 experience point for small and auxiliary buildings.)

Special Buildings (1/1): Council Hall (Provides 500 negative energy points daily)

Large Buildings (1/2): Church (Inactive; requires 20 Skeleton Soldiers to activate. Once activated, it can be upgraded to an Evil Church, training 20 Skeleton Soldiers weekly.)

Medium Buildings (1/3): Candle Factory (Inactive; requires 20 units of eerie corpses to activate. Once activated, it can be upgraded to a White Candle Factory, providing 300 negative energy points daily and 30 units of white candles weekly.)

Small Buildings (1/5): Well (Inactive; requires entering the sewers and conquering the sewers in the first district to activate. Once activated, weekly soldier training capacity increases by 50%.)

    Auxiliary Buildings (0/10): None

    Garrisoned Hero: None

    Garrisoned Troops: None]

Gu Xi had learned about the characteristics of various city buildings during his studies.

The Special Buildings refer to buildings that are always present in a city. Regardless of size, each level-up adds a new Special Building location. Starting with the Council Hall, essential structures like magic towers, blacksmiths, markets, barracks, and warehouses are present in all cities.

Large buildings fall into two categories: one is for training troops, like the unactivated church. The other comprises city-specific large buildings. For example, Orcish cities might have arenas, human cities stables, while undead cities usually have Dark Canopies, tombs, Skeleton Conversion Centers, and Soul Summoning Towers.

Medium buildings primarily focus on resources; some are common across most cities, such as farms, fishing spots, mines, enchanting points, or slaughterhouses. Others provide resources specific to a race, such as enchanted pools in Elven cities or vaults in Dwarven cities.

Small buildings enhance city combat power or troop strength. City walls, arrow towers, lucky fountains, and mana pools are examples. Gu Xi’s new skill, the initial city gate of a Death City, is also a type of small building. Importantly, the city gate, moat, and drawbridge are considered three separate small buildings.

Auxiliary buildings are straightforward; streetlights and signs all fall under this category. These buildings have minimal impact on the city but are sorely missed if absent. Achievement statues also count as auxiliary buildings. Like Special Buildings, auxiliary buildings are unrelated to area and are tied to the city level. Each level-up allows for 10 additional auxiliary buildings.

Building auxiliary buildings is key to rapid city upgrades.

However, Gu Xi wasn’t in a rush. The city was under his control. His priority was the city’s security.

He had noticed that Alierdo was classified as contested territory. This was understandable.

Of the city’s total 2.9 square kilometers, he only controlled 0.9 square kilometers—less than a third. The rest remained in enemy hands. Anything less would not be considered contested territory.

Three of the five roads outside the city led to other districts of Alierdo. Another led to the mirrored palace they had come from. According to the map, this mirrored palace is named Alierdo Tower, a mirror image of Victoria Tower, and the core of controlling all of Alierdo City. Securing this castle would double resource production and troop training speed within the city. This castle is also the location of the Level 17 Death City battle fortress deployment.

The last road led outside the city. Gu Xi was unsure of its destination, as it was only marked with the word “danger.”

After some thought, Gu Xi decided to activate the three buildings within his current territory before considering other actions.

Since Alierdo was already his, he could freely enter and exit even if he quit the game, so he wasn’t in a rush to conquer other areas.

The current priority was his military strength.

    Just then, Luna floated in.

“My lord, I have an idea concerning this city.”
