Chapter 28: Clearing the Sewers (Seeking More Readers)

Gu Xi gave the order, and three combat squads quickly entered the sewers through a manhole.

The sewer below the manhole was relatively large, without many branches or forks; it was simply a kilometer-long underground passage wide enough for four or five people to walk abreast.

However, this situation made Gu Xi somewhat unclear about how to activate the manhole.

They first proceeded in one direction, intending to reach the end, touch the black mist, and observe any changes. If the mist remained unchanged, they would then head to the other end.

However, Gu Xi’s assumption proved incorrect. As Combat Squad 3’s Skeleton Soldiers made contact with the black mist, a horde of rats surged forth.

These rats varied greatly in size; the largest were as big as sows, while the smallest were as thick as a human arm.

Upon emerging, all the rats immediately launched a charging attack, attempting to flee from one end of the sewer to the other.

Before Gu Xi could give any instructions, Luna reacted instantly, unleashing Frostbite Touch to slow the rats’ movement.

Simultaneously, Combat Squad 3’s Skeleton Soldiers stepped forward with their shields, blocking the larger rats.

Behind them, Combat Squad 2’s Skeleton Soldiers raised their spears and began picking off the smaller rats.

The spears weren’t particularly fast, and their close-range effectiveness was reduced, but their attack power was strong, ensuring a one-hit kill on the small rats. Once pierced, none survived.

In a short while, hundreds of small rats were impaled into bloody messes by the Skeleton Soldiers’ spears.

By this time, the large rats hadn’t yet broken through the defensive line established by Combat Squad 3.

Gu Xi remained at the rear, largely inactive, observing the constantly popping-up messages while absorbing the souls of the rats.

As the battle progressed, Gu Xi gradually discovered that the [Ghoulish Rat Meat] obtained on the battlefield was precisely the ghoulish corpses needed to activate the candle factory.

However, the quantity seemed insufficient. Killing about five small ghoulish rats yielded only one piece of ghoulish rat meat; larger Giant Ghoulish Rats did not drop this meat, instead yielding ghoulish rat organs.

Not only were these organs not considered ghoulish corpses, but they were also of higher quality.

This left Gu Xi speechless. He had initially assumed that ghoulish corpses would be found on the larger Giant Ghoulish Rats.

Without Luna’s Frostbite Touch, killing them quickly might be impossible, thus making her presence necessary.

As for Gu Xi, carrying a splintered bone club in one hand and a ghoulish skull in the other, he leisurely followed behind.

Gu Xi estimated that by the time he reached the other side of the battlefield, the fighting would be over. There was no need to rush.

So, Gu Xi secretly slowed his pace.

But just as he neared the other battlefield, Luna suddenly flew towards him.
