Chapter 48: The Hidden Building (Seeking Support)
As Gu Xi uttered those words, the force resisting him indeed weakened, but a residual force still hindered his advance.
Gu Xi pondered for a moment, quickly understanding the situation.
He loudly declared, “I am the owner of this place. By the authority vested in me as the owner of this land in the Damingway District, it belongs to the Damingway District and has no connection to the Camden District.”
Upon finishing his statement, the force obstructing him vanished completely.
Simultaneously, the ruins before him shifted. The debris parted, revealing a bizarre three-story building constructed from a strange assortment of materials. This building covered roughly two hundred square meters, appearing like a haphazard combination of a well-preserved apartment building and salvaged materials. It looked twisted and unusual, but Gu Xi noticed the building’s windows were more numerous and larger than those in a typical apartment building, as if deliberately modified.
Furthermore, a small garden of about one hundred square meters was situated outside the building. Various unique flowers and herbs grew within.
A smile graced Gu Xi’s face.
His suspicions were confirmed. The area’s exclusionary rules were twofold: first, the lack of an owner. If the owner presented a legal deed or other valid documentation, the first layer of restriction would be overcome.
Second, the district demarcation issue. The previous owner cleverly factored human nature into their scheme.
Just as he had anticipated, nobody would willingly forfeit the opportunity to claim a property in Camden District, thereby leaving it designated as part of the Damingway District. This explained why this place had remained unoccupied for so many years.
Now that the rightful owner had arrived, any precautions set by those who had illegally occupied the area were rendered useless.
Observing the building before him, Gu Xi, clutching his Fragmentation Rod, advanced two steps.
Simultaneously, a large stone gate materialized behind him. His Skeleton Soldiers emerged from the gate.
“Go in, secure this building, and clear it completely.”
The Skeleton Soldiers understood the meaning of “clear it completely”. This wasn’t a request for cleaning; it meant eliminating any dangers within the building. After all, the building looked far from ordinary, and if time allowed, Gu Xi would have demolished and rebuilt it himself.
As the Skeleton Soldiers charged, before reaching the building’s entrance, Gu Xi heard a violent gust of wind. A snake’s tail, as thick as a man, swept across the doorway, shattering the leading Skeleton Soldiers.
Then Gu Xi saw the source. A giant serpent was impaled onto the gate, its tail the only moving part, its head fixed in place by three iron spikes, fusing it to the gate.
“Luna!”
Upon witnessing the scene, Gu Xi instantly commanded.
Luna, concealed behind Gu Xi, immediately reacted. She appeared behind the serpent and pointed.
Frostbite Touch!
The serpent instantly froze solid. Several Skeleton Soldiers quickly advanced, their spears piercing the serpent’s vital spot.
[Skeleton Soldier (Summon) killed Magic Mutated Serpent (Level 4), you gain 1 experience, combat squad gains 1 experience, Contracted Undead gains 10 experience, participating summon gains 5 experience.]
With the serpent slain, a shrill alarm blared from within the building. The sound was even more piercing than Luna’s banshee wail but lacked any offensive properties.
Yet, as the alarm sounded, hundreds of owls erupted from nearby windows, swooping toward Gu Xi.
Don’t underestimate owls; they are carnivores, feeding on rabbits, mice, and snakes. They immediately attacked the Skeleton Soldiers, seemingly aiming to carry them into the sky and drop them.
Gu Xi had limited troops and couldn’t afford losses. As the owls descended, Gu Xi pointed skyward.
“Kill!”
Ten bone spikes shot out, piercing the owls like arrows.
[Killed Magic Owl (Level 1), you gain 7 experience.]
[Killed Magic Owl (Level 1), you gain 6 experience.]
[……]
As Gu Xi acted, several Skeleton Soldiers formed a shield wall in front of him, deflecting the aerial assault.
Gu Xi, confident in his safety, immediately focused on the dying owls, pointing at their corpses.
“Corpse Explosion!”
Several owl carcasses detonated, killing nearby owls.
After eliminating more owls, Gu Xi’s Skeleton Soldiers began systematically slaughtering the remaining birds. Though numerous, the owls were low-level. Their initial mass attack had seemed formidable, but after the explosion, they were easily dispatched. A single Skeleton Soldier, if not carried away, could effortlessly kill twenty owls.
The Skeleton Soldiers worked together, those closer using double-handed swords, those further away using spears. Any owl that descended slightly was swiftly impaled.
At that moment, the building’s back door swung open, and a dark figure burst forth. Its movement was peculiar, appearing to float, but it couldn’t sustain this for long, pausing every ten or so meters. When it paused, the figure was revealed: a man in a black robe, his face distorted, his teeth few.
He pointed at Gu Xi, firing a red beam. The Skeleton Soldiers quickly raised their shields, absorbing the attack.
As a Skeleton Soldier exploded, Gu Xi retreated, launching two bone spikes at the figure. However, the spikes were far too slow compared to the figure’s erratic movement; they missed.
Fortunately, the figure needed to stop to attack; it couldn’t strike while in its shadowy form. Gu Xi kept the figure moving, preventing it from stopping. Luna, alerted by Gu Xi, searched for an opportunity to freeze the enemy.
While Gu Xi prepared, the Skeleton Soldiers finished off the owls and charged toward the shadowy figure.
