by adminChapter 56: The Design of the Little Building (Seeking More Readers!)
Listening to the earth spirit’s analysis, Gu Xi had already determined the current black market prices.
“How much more is needed?”
“To build your little building within two days, you’ll need at least 20,000 pounds, that’s the starting price. There’s no upper limit.”
The strange white rat skin is worth around 30 to 50 pounds, while a green crystallized eyeball is worth 5,000 pounds.
Gu Xi’s mind raced through various calculations. Finally, he pulled out a ring and tossed it to the earth spirit.
“How about now?”
The ring Gu Xi threw was a [Transformation Ring].
This was a good item. The strange deer he encountered earlier was transformed using this very ring.
Most importantly, Gu Xi knew the [Transformation Ring] had a special property: it increased the level of the transformed creature by +4.
Even outside the game, this item would fetch a high price.
But Gu Xi acted as if he didn’t care, throwing it away casually.
This astonished the earth spirit. He frantically caught the ring and quickly examined it. After a long while, he spoke.
“This ring allows one to transform into a monster that exists in their mind. If the transformation didn’t risk causing a loss of control, it could sell for at least 100,000 pounds. Even now, 40,000 to 50,000 pounds wouldn’t be a problem. Are you really planning to invest it all in your construction?”
“Build it. If it’s not enough, I’ll buy some more things. But I think you’ll always find a way to spend this money, right?”
“Of course, there’s no money the Earth Spirit Trading Company can’t make.”
The earth spirit said excitedly, “Let’s work with a budget of 55,000 pounds.”
Gu Xi blinked, immediately understanding that the earth spirit had included the crystallized eyeball in the calculation.
Before he could speak, the earth spirit drew a line on the ground, and a magical sand table appeared before Gu Xi.
“My friend, where is your empty land?”
“Do you know the ruins at the end of Greenwich Street?”
“I do. That’s not…” The earth spirit was well-informed. He understood immediately. Although he had some doubts, the sight of the [Transformation Ring] dispelled them all.
“I know that place. The terrain is roughly like this.”
The earth spirit clapped his hands, and the magical sand table changed. Gu Xi saw that it was indeed the layout of the previous ruins.
Gu Xi then said to the earth spirit, “I’ve already cleared away the debris from the ruins. There are two cellars here and here. This one can be rebuilt, but this one must be preserved.”
Hearing that Gu Xi had cleared all the construction debris from the ruins, a look of regret, as if he had missed out on a million pounds worth of material, flashed across the earth spirit’s eyes.
Fortunately, he still possessed some common sense. With a sweep of his hand, he cleared the construction debris from the sand table, leaving only an empty space.
Then the earth spirit began adding various things.
“My friend, you want a three-story building, right? Do you want a front garden? How large should the garden be? We should build a gate, I have a pair of lion-head gates that can open automatically. Are you interested? They’re not expensive, 500 pounds a pair. They’ll notice anyone approaching. Should we arrange for a butler inside the gate? Oh, you don’t need one. How about the garden? What style of building do you prefer…?”
Standing beside him, Gu Xi looked at the magical sand table, thinking how useful this thing was.
The earth spirit kept adding various items from his inventory, and whenever Gu Xi suggested changes, the earth spirit could remove items from the magical sand table instantly.
Soon, Gu Xi and the earth spirit reached an agreement. The new building would be a three-story stone and wood structure with a basement.
The building would occupy 200 square meters. The remaining area would be used for the front gate and entrance garden, covering nearly 30 square meters. The small garden, pond, and a small steam-powered engine room at the back of the building would occupy a total of 60 square meters.
Gu Xi’s most important basement entrance would be located under the pond, accessible only via a switch that opened a passage. Otherwise, the pond water would have to be drained to enter.
Of course, this entrance method came at a cost. The earth spirit used steam technology, magic, and other special means. In short, apart from the building itself, this was the most expensive part of the construction.
The interior decoration was also finalized.
The basement would be a warehouse area, with six large and small warehouses and rooms, including two cold storage rooms, one magically sealed room, a special storage room, and an important library.
The security of these warehouses was enhanced, but Gu Xi didn’t accept the earth spirit’s recommendation to hire earth spirit security personnel.
Gu Xi didn’t need that. If he needed security, he could just arrange some undead in his building.
The first floor would mainly consist of a hall, living room, dining room, and kitchen. The second floor would have five bedrooms with different styles. The third floor would be Gu Xi’s master bedroom, with a viewing balcony. Since the master bedroom would occupy about 150 square meters, it would be further subdivided into various functional areas.
Since these didn’t involve magic, the earth spirit didn’t increase the price. However, he added a lot of extra features to the front and back yards.
The backyard pond and steam-powered engine room were essential, especially the engine room which provided electricity and heat for the whole building, a necessity for most people.
For the front yard, the earth spirit started recommending various extravagant things such as a wisdom tree, automatically opening gates, nutrient-rich soil, and so on.
The prices of these items were exorbitant. Gu Xi didn’t simply agree to whatever the earth spirit quoted but bargained with him, or outright rejected unnecessary items.
The earth spirit noticed Gu Xi’s attitude and stopped pushing unnecessary security features. Instead, he focused on items that would make Gu Xi’s life more convenient and comfortable.
His recommendations appealed to Gu Xi.
Gu Xi purchased some items he hadn’t considered, persuaded by the earth spirit’s arguments.
After much haggling, Gu Xi’s budget was finally exhausted.
Just as the earth spirit was about to recommend more items, Gu Xi stopped him.
“Stop, that’s it. I’ve run out of money.”
Hearing Gu Xi’s words, the earth spirit sighed. He still had many things he wanted to recommend.
The earth spirit’s eyes twinkled, and he was about to speak when Gu Xi said,
“Don’t tell me there’s something crucial I’ve missed! If that’s the case, I’ll just take the building itself. I’ll skip all the extras and stick to the 20,000 pound budget.”
Upon hearing this, the earth spirit quickly shut his mouth, not daring to recommend anything else.
