The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 6
by adminChapter 6: Discrepancy and Probing
When mentioning the big shot behind the mirrored palace, Gu Xi noticed that, including Jack, their eyes were gleaming with excitement.
That big shot, though tricked, was genuinely capable. James I was the first to ascend from King of Edinburgh to Emperor of Britain. Back then, his demands were so high, yet the price he paid was merely a city as a sacrifice.
What if their demands were lower? Wouldn’t the price be less?
One could say the expressions of the people in Alierdo City upon hearing their chance to find the mirrored palace were like those of an Arab upon hearing of a chance to obtain a magic lamp (a reference to the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp, symbolizing a great and unexpected opportunity).
Everyone couldn’t control their ambition. These people in front of him were no different. For such a vague dream, they abandoned their chance of escape, following Jack to join the search for the mirrored palace. Gu Xi wasn’t sure how many of them would survive.
Jack, unaware of Gu Xi’s thoughts, continued from where he left off.
“Master Mage, I got definite information from that architect. In the mirrored palace opposite Victoria Tower, there are six doors. Legend says that once all six doors are opened, the exiled city will return. To open these doors, blood sacrifices are needed. Depending on each door, the blood sacrifice requires the heads of a British Emperor and a British Empress, the blood of a British Princess and a British Heir Apparent, and the lives of a British Prince and a British consort. Each door’s sacrifice also requires the lives and blood of one thousand to five thousand ordinary people. These ordinary people also have certain requirements. We’re among those who will be accompanying them to death.”
Gu Xi’s eyelids twitched. He now understood why he was brought here.
“Using me as a sacrificial offering? They dare! I can’t swallow this!”
Hearing Gu Xi’s words, several nearby people nodded in agreement. They were all captured like this; no one wanted to be used as a sacrificial offering and wait to die. Not just Gu Xi, anyone would be furious.
Thinking this, Gu Xi fiercely declared, “This matter isn’t over! They want to open the doors? I’ll stop them! Give me the map; I’ll find a way to destroy these doors!”
“No!”
As soon as Gu Xi finished speaking, everyone, including Jack, shouted.
Gu Xi looked at them in bewilderment, noticing the awkwardness in their eyes.
Jack then explained to Gu Xi: “Master Mage, it’s not that I don’t want to stop you from destroying the doors, but… but the doors weren’t built by those in the mirrored palace. They were released by the big shot from the fake Victoria City. Even if you destroy them, new ones will appear. The cultists can still perform blood sacrifices, just killing another batch of innocent people. Master Mage, you wouldn’t want innocent people to die because of you, would you?”
“Innocent people? I’m an innocent person, too! You worry about them, I’ll worry about myself! I won’t be appeased until I destroy a gate!”
At this moment, a woman sitting in the corner stood up, tucking her hair behind her ear as she rose. Walking to Gu Xi’s side, she whispered, “Master Mage, we understand your feelings. We also want revenge on those cultists, but we need to target the right people, right? Shouldn’t we focus on the cultists themselves?”
Gu Xi scanned everyone present, then sneered. Seeing their agreeing expressions, he understood their intentions. These people, outwardly seeking revenge on the cultists, actually wanted to benefit from the exiled big shot. Greed was written all over their faces. Such people were unworthy of being companions. Their minds were not as clear as those civilians who escaped after being released.
Gu Xi shook his head. “Do as you wish. I’ll have my own plans and direction. Just don’t interfere with my actions. Also, I need to rest now. You’d better be quiet.”
“Master Mage, you can’t say that. We’re all in the same boat…”
Before the woman could finish, Luna came before her, her vacant eyes fixed on hers, silencing her instantly.
“Before you speak, think about whether you have the ability to handle the consequences. If not, shut your mouth.”
Gu Xi’s words made everyone tremble. However, Gu Xi didn’t make things difficult for them; after all, they did provide some useful information, and they were, for now, allies. After intimidating them, Gu Xi found a place to sit, closed his eyes, and began to recover his depleted magical power.
The moment Gu Xi closed his eyes, Luna retreated to his side. She didn’t look at the others, but her mere presence kept everyone from even daring to breathe.
However, as time ticked by, these people started scheming again. Seeing that Gu Xi was clearly asleep, two frail middle-aged men exchanged glances. One stood up and slowly approached Gu Xi, while the other shifted on the ground. They planned to have one distract Luna while the other secretly approached Gu Xi. In their minds, mages were close-combat weaklings. As long as they captured Gu Xi, they could control the situation. They’d seen their share of novice mages.
Their thinking wasn’t entirely wrong; those who weren’t ruthless couldn’t survive being locked up for so long. But what they hadn’t anticipated was Luna, a ghostly spirit, possessing an innate alertness skill. Her body was incorporeal; even when an enemy was behind her, they were actually facing her. She could never be ambushed from behind.
The instant the middle-aged man who intended to sneak up on Gu Xi rose to pounce, an icy tentacle struck him. The man’s body rapidly froze, crashing heavily onto the floor.
【Luna (Contracted Undead) killed Civilian (Level 0), you gained 2 experience points, Contracted Undead gained 4 experience points.】
Gu Xi opened his eyes. He glanced at the information that popped up, sighing helplessly.
“Why bother? Isn’t it better to live?”
Seeing Gu Xi stand up, Jack quickly said, “Master Mage, please don’t be angry. They didn’t have any bad intentions.”
“Yeah, Master Mage, we really didn’t know anything.”
“Right, I was asleep too.”
The others quickly spoke up, trying to distance themselves from the incident.
Gu Xi scanned them, reaching out to the dead middle-aged man and drawing out some specks of light. Then, he turned his hand, forming the specks into a larger orb which he returned to the corpse.
With a series of crackling sounds, the middle-aged man transformed into a skeleton carrying nothing.
Pointing to the skeleton standing beside him, Gu Xi calmly stated, “Don’t think I need you. You need my help. If you don’t want to die, behave yourselves. Otherwise, I’ll turn you all into Skeleton Soldiers.”
