Chapter 68: Morning Sunlight Guild (Requesting for more readers)
The rewards given by the Necromancer Wind Academy to its top student weren’t many. Besides the Chieftain’s Banner and the Champion Ring, there were usually only two academy awards and one personal award from the principal.
However, this year’s award ceremony and graduation ceremony lasted for over four hours.
It was already dark by the time the Necromancer Wind Academy concluded the ceremony and saw off all the invited guests.
As Gu Xi was preparing to leave with Li Xinghui, Man Xuebo, the Undead Mage, approached him.
“Gu Xi, I’m sorry about what happened earlier. I was acting in the academy’s best interest. This is a small gift as compensation.”
Man Xuebo said, handing over a small gift package.
Man Xuebo didn’t care about the contents of the gift; it was actually given to him by the vice-president of the Steel Ghost Claw Guild.
He wanted to add another layer of insurance to his plan against Gu Xi.
Gu Xi glanced at Man Xuebo, then at Li Xinghui, before accepting the gift.
However, Gu Xi didn’t check the contents of the package; he simply put it in his pocket and left with Li Xinghui.
Outside the Necromancer Wind Academy gates, Li Xinghui summoned a bone carriage.
“Get in. I’ll take you to the guild first. We’ll figure out the arrangements after you meet the guild leader.”
“Okay.” Gu Xi smiled and got into the carriage. As he got in, he noticed a symbol of a sun rising from behind mountains printed on the carriage door.
“This is…?”
“Oh, this is our guild’s carriage. You wouldn’t believe it, but despite our relatively low ranking, our guild is quite powerful. Since we have some time on the way, let me tell you about the guild.
We currently control seven unique game worlds. Three are permanently garrisoned, three are currently being conquered, and we just secured another one and are preparing to explore it.
The guild also controls eleven dungeon entrances; six of them require a level 5 or lower to access. You can apply to participate in dungeon battles if you want to improve.
Our guild leader is level 12, and our two vice-presidents are both level 11. This is considered pretty good in Bai Lian City.
Usually, new recruits join the novice squad first. After reaching level 3, they are assigned to various battle squads for internships based on their profession. However, you’re already level 3 and possess three divine skills, so the guild leader might directly assign you to a squad for an internship.
Make sure you put on a good show and try to join the Fiery Sun Mage Squad.”
“Fiery Sun Mage Squad?”
Gu Xi asked curiously.
“Oh, it’s the Undead Mage Squad 1, personally managed by the guild leader. It’s made up of the guild’s elite Undead Mages. There’s also a Death Knight Squad 1, also personally managed by the guild leader, called the Fiery Day Knights.”
Gu Xi looked up at the gloomy sky outside. Bai Lian City primarily consists of Undead Mages and Death Knights, with other professions related to ghosts and specters playing a supporting role. The entire city is perpetually gloomy; you see the sun for maybe one day out of the year.
Naming your squad that in a small guild… seems a bit excessive.
Li Xinghui saw the expression on Gu Xi’s face. A hint of smugness flashed in his eyes, a clear “I know what you’re thinking, but I’m not going to tell you” expression, before quickly changing the subject.
This atmosphere eased Gu Xi’s apprehension, and their relationship became more amicable.
After about thirty minutes, the carriage turned from the main street onto a small road. After passing several gates, Gu Xi noticed that the sky seemed to be getting brighter.
Li Xinghui, with a triumphant tone, said,
“You won’t believe this, but the guild leader obtained this by chance while challenging a new world.”
Gu Xi stared in amazement at the sky. He saw a sun hanging in the sky! He reached out his hand through the carriage window, and the sunlight falling on his hand felt distinctly warm.
But soon, Gu Xi felt a chill beneath the warmth; the sun in the sky clearly wasn’t normal.
“As expected of the top student; you noticed it right away.”
Seeing Gu Xi’s reaction, Li Xinghui laughed. “Let me tell you, this sun isn’t ordinary. The guild leader randomly got a chance to access the Golden Game World, *Journey to the West*— you’ve heard of it, right? Even the little mountain patrol demons there are level 15.
The guild leader couldn’t beat anyone there, but he didn’t waste the opportunity. He went to the Pure Washing Spring and started digging. He unearthed the remains of a deceased Golden Crow (a three-legged crow associated with the sun in Chinese mythology).
After completing many quests, he transformed the Golden Crow’s remains into his Contracted Undead.
Now, this Golden Crow is constantly flying in the sky. I dare say, in all of Bai Lian City, only our Morning Sunlight Guild’s headquarters has sunlight.”
Following Li Xinghui’s introduction, Gu Xi hopped out of the carriage.
He looked around and found himself in a large square.
The buildings in the square were strangely divided into two parts.
One side consisted of various styles of pools and gates, while the other side had buildings and villas of varying heights.
“These pools are entrances to the guild’s unique worlds. You can enter them once your application is approved. Those gates are dungeon entrances; you can also enter after approval, but it’s best to team up for dungeons, don’t go in alone.
Over there are the guild’s dormitories. New recruits and trainees live in high-rise buildings; those who join battle squads will be assigned to the corresponding villa complexes.
Each complex corresponds to a battle squad, and they’re fully equipped with various amenities.
By the way, if you have a private world portal, an independent dungeon key, or want to apply for a random game world, you just need to report the time. But absolutely, positively, do not open them in the dormitory area.”
Gu Xi nodded in agreement to Li Xinghui’s warning.
He was well aware of the taboo of opening game worlds.
While choosing which game to enter was relatively private, it couldn’t be done at home.
No one could guarantee that every player would return safely.
Death in the game was one thing, but no one knew what lurked within. Possession or control was a completely different matter.
There have been instances in history where game characters possessed players and caused widespread chaos.
Therefore, the rule was established: entering and exiting games must be done in a public place where others can see. It’s prohibited to enter or exit games in private rooms.
“By the way, when I came out, I set an anchor point and opened a game portal. I need to apply for a separate private portal.”
“That’s no problem. We’ll arrange it for you after you complete your squad registration.”
