Chapter 70: Returning to the City (Seeking More Readers)
Stepping into Alierdo City, the sunlight that had been falling on him vanished, and the sky turned to the gloomy atmosphere of a death city.
In front of the Alierdo City council hall, 50 Skeleton Soldiers, 20 Zombies, and 10 Ghostly Spirits, newly added to Gu Xi’s forces, stood in formation.
Unlike the Skeleton Soldiers summoned by Gu Xi himself, these undead were all formally ranked troops.
The Skeleton Soldiers were all formally equipped with swords and shields, wearing armor.
【Skeleton Soldier (Level 3, Summoned Troop): Experience (0/500) Attack 2+1 (Long Sword), Defense 1+2 (Shield + Armor) Health 20, Skills: Undead Creature, Combined Warfare】
From the Skeleton Soldier’s attributes, it’s clear they had no significant advantages. They were the most basic undead units, lacking unique characteristics.
Unlike the Skeleton Soldiers Gu Xi was used to, the Zombies and Ghostly Spirits were less common units, their ranks significantly higher than the Skeleton Soldiers.
Those zombies, with their bluish-green skin, hardened flesh, exposed bones in places, and wielding cleavers, were the most basic type of zombie. They lacked defense, attack, and movement speed.
But due to their higher level, their attack and defense surpassed that of normal Skeleton Soldiers.
【Zombie (Level 4, Summoned Troop): Experience (0/750) Attack 4+2 (Cleaver), Defense 6, Health 60, Skills: Undead Creature, Combat Bite, Corrosive Poison Attack】
Similar to the Zombies, the Ghostly Spirits had much higher levels, with their attack power and characteristics far surpassing the Skeleton Soldiers.
These Ghostly Spirits were unlike Luna; they were old-style ghostly spirits, not the later, more common semi-transparent type. These were the kind draped in black robes, floating in the air, revealing skull faces and rib cages.
They gathered together, quietly floating, causing little reaction.
【Ghostly Spirit (Level 5, Summoned Troop): Experience (0/1000) Attack 5, Defense 4, Health 55, Skills: Undead Creature, Flying Troop, Life Regeneration, Ghostly Constitution】
The Ghostly Spirits’ characteristics were far stronger than those of the Skeleton Soldiers and Zombies. Undead Creature and Flying Troop are self-explanatory, while Life Regeneration meant they could heal themselves in battle.
Their Ghostly Constitution was even stronger, granting a 50% chance to negate physical attacks.
Coupled with their already strong attack power, these Ghostly Spirits were arguably the pinnacle of basic undead units.
All the undead troops stood before him; without Gu Xi’s command, they remained motionless.
Glancing at these undead units, Gu Xi nodded in satisfaction. Regardless of other factors, the sheer number of these units was enough to replenish the losses from his previous battles.
Gu Xi had been busy with other matters, neglecting these undead units. Now that he had time, he needed to arrange them properly.
“All Skeleton Commanders, come here. Distribute these Skeleton Soldiers in a ratio of 10, 20, and 20. Keep the Zombies here for now, and Luna will manage the Ghostly Spirits. Luna, how’s the new Bone Evil Temple coming along? Luna… Luna?”
Gu Xi had been distributing the troops for a moment when he realized Luna and Shaya were absent.
Gu Xi was taken aback. Just as he was about to look for Luna, he saw Luna and Shaya emerging from a nearby building.
Their faces were grim, as if someone owed them a large sum of money.
Upon seeing Gu Xi, their expressions improved slightly. “Sir, you’re here.”
“Mm, what’s wrong? You both look unwell. Is there a problem with the newly integrated derelict city?”
“No, sir. We just went to Victoria City. Something big happened there.”
Luna spoke quickly.
“What happened?” Gu Xi’s Alierdo City and Victoria City were closely linked; any incident in one would affect the other. Gu Xi immediately became worried. This was far more important than the integrated derelict districts.
“It seems that Westminster Abbey has been influenced by the Great Lord’s followers and is transforming into a demonic realm. One of the Great Lord’s devout followers intends to ascend the throne there, fulfilling a pact James I made with the Great Lord.” (James I refers to James I of England, a historical figure; the Great Lord refers to a powerful demonic entity in the novel’s fictional world.)
Gu Xi couldn’t help but say, “Has he gone mad? Is this even possible?”
“Of course. Those cultists are always like that. They’re brainless zealots, blinded by faith,” Shaya added.
Gu Xi noticed Shaya’s unusual emotional state. This matter didn’t directly involve her, yet she seemed agitated.
“Shaya, is something else wrong?”
“To support the actions at Westminster Abbey, those cultists are performing blood sacrifices in the streets of Victoria City. Many people have died in the streets these past two nights. The Scotland Yard bobbies (Scotland Yard refers to the London Metropolitan Police; “bobbies” is a colloquial term for police officers) are furious and have been investigating the matter. The Destiny Compass Guild has also been affected.” (The Destiny Compass Guild is a guild within the game’s world.)
“You’re worried about your mentors?”
Gu Xi understood Shaya’s concern.
“Yes. I have a bad feeling about this.”
Shaya whispered, unsure where this feeling came from. As a thief, she had a keen sense of danger, but this uneasy feeling was unlike anything she had experienced before.
“This is troublesome. Let’s handle your current tasks first, then you’ll be stationed in Victoria City, keeping a close watch. If anything happens, you can directly assist your mentors.”
Shaya’s face brightened. “Thank you, sir.”
“It’s nothing. We don’t need your strength elsewhere for now.”
Seeing Shaya’s improved mood, Luna smiled happily.
Gu Xi then turned to Luna.
“How’s the Bone Evil Temple coming along?”
“Construction has begun. It’s using the last large plot of land in this district. Sir, how long will you be staying in the city?”
“Five or six days. Let’s get the Bone Evil Temple built first. The troops from the Bone Evil Temple, along with our current forces, should be enough to take the Pier Warehouse district. By the way, how’s the newly integrated derelict district? Do we have enough resources to develop it?”
“Resources are insufficient, but after the integration of the derelict district, our territory has noticeably expanded, improving resource collection speed. However, there’s a problem.”
Luna, as the administrator of Alierdo City, was most familiar with this aspect.
“What problem?”
“There are three structures in the derelict district that seem to be suppressing something. I have a bad feeling about them.”
“You mean the Alchemy Laboratories, right? I also feel uneasy about them. I don’t like those things. Let’s ignore them for now. We’ll take the Pier Warehouse district, then return to demolish those three laboratories, turning them into large plots of land for our own buildings.”
Gu Xi considered briefly and decided to bypass the Alchemy Laboratories and build his own structures. He generally disliked such structures, and besides, he had something important to do.
Complete the temporary task related to Shaya: the artifact from the fairytale.
Obtain another of the Three Divine Skills: Death Avatar.
