Chapter 88: Death Transformation (Subscription Requested)

“Sir, something’s wrong. There’s half a body buried under the abandoned old city district. No, only a tenth of a body—just from the right shoulder to the right waist. Three labs were previously extracting and suppressing it, so it was fine. Now, that body seems to be…uncontrollable.”

Luna’s voice reached Gu Xi, who was hurrying towards the tavern.

A tenth of a body, only from the right shoulder to the right waist? What’s going on?

Although Gu Xi didn’t quite understand, he knew where the problem stemmed from. He wouldn’t be able to handle other things, but a corpse? Gu Xi wasn’t worried at all; there wasn’t a corpse an Undead Mage couldn’t handle. If there was, it simply meant the Undead Mage wasn’t high enough level.

Thinking this, Gu Xi decisively said, “I understand. I’ll hold it off; you deal with it as you see fit.”

After saying this, Gu Xi glanced at the tavern just ahead, then quickly turned and left.

The tavern keeper, already standing at the tavern door ready to greet him, was utterly baffled by this. She turned to her maidservant, touching her skull.

“What’s wrong with the City Lord? Am I not pretty anymore? Is that why he saw me and ran away?”

Several skeleton maidservants shook their heads repeatedly. They dared not say anything. Faced with such a question, they could only shake their heads in feigned ignorance.

Meanwhile, Gu Xi, running towards the abandoned old city district, had no time to consider the tavern keeper’s thoughts. He had only one thought: After this, he absolutely had to find someone and ask if there were any mounts for sale. Running back and forth like this every time was exhausting.

Before Gu Xi reached the abandoned old city district, the Death Avatar had already lunged towards the ground. Its target was the thickest and largest arm.

As the Death Avatar descended, the arm, as if stimulated, moved slightly. Its fingers attempted to reach out and grab the Death Avatar, but ultimately failed.

This movement provoked a counterattack from the Death Avatar. It clamped down hard on the largest section of the arm. After biting down, the Death Avatar tried a quick twist to sever the arm.

However, the arm, besides being long, was also extremely thick. Biting into the bronze arm caused minimal damage. Instead, the Death Avatar almost got flung away, which enraged it. It felt challenged. These were inanimate objects; it couldn’t believe they could do anything to it.

So, the Death Avatar soared back into the air, then launched a downward strike, transforming into a black mist and crashing heavily into the bronze arm.

With this collision, the bronze arm, which had been unyielding to its bites, finally moved. But instead of falling, it swung back, striking the Death Avatar hard.

The Death Avatar, already level 11, was sent flying, instantly losing half its health. If the Death Avatar’s bones hadn’t been exceptionally hard, they might have turned to dust.

After rolling on the ground, the Death Avatar got back up, its body quickly turning into black mist, preparing to charge the bronze arm again.

At that moment, Gu Xi burst in from outside.

    “Death Avatar, retreat.”

Hearing the command, the Death Avatar quickly returned to Gu Xi’s side.

Meanwhile, various thoughts raced through Gu Xi’s mind. He was certain that the bronze arm was connected to an incomplete corpse buried beneath. This corpse was being affected by some force, continuously revitalizing itself. The bronze arm extending from the ground was the result of this revitalization.

Furthermore, with the energy stored in that part of the corpse, it wouldn’t be long before the entire Alerdovier would be overgrown with such arms. Who would ultimately control Alerdo City was uncertain.

Calling the Death Avatar back, Gu Xi had only one thought: to deal a decisive blow to the buried corpse, eliminating it at the source. Others couldn’t handle this corpse, but an Undead Mage had plenty of methods. Corpse Explosion was the best option.

While the explosion might level the abandoned old city district, it wasn’t a major concern for Gu Xi. The abandoned old city district was essentially a free acquisition anyway. Besides, only the city district would be destroyed; the land itself would remain.

Just as Gu Xi was considering where to stand to avoid the blast, the ground of the abandoned old city district suddenly shook. Luna’s voice echoed in his ears again.

    “Sir, suppress the corpse.”

Without hesitation, Gu Xi immediately pointed at the Death Avatar.

    “Avatar, suppress!”

The Death Avatar, transforming into black mist, flew into the air, then sharply turned and plunged underground.

The next instant, Gu Xi felt his mana being drained, just like when he’d first summoned the Death Avatar. The Death Avatar disintegrated, transforming into precise Death Energy that seeped into the ground. In an instant, the entire abandoned old city district was dyed black.

After the Death Avatar’s disintegration, Gu Xi almost collapsed. This complete mana drain felt even worse than when he’d summoned the Death Avatar. But Gu Xi didn’t fall; he used his Fragmentation Rod to support himself, struggling to stand.

With the Death Avatar transformed into Death Energy, the ground of the abandoned old city district continuously contracted. Simultaneously, the three alchemy laboratories were completely expelled from Alerdovier and sent to Victoria City. The land’s contraction neatly squeezed out the space occupied by the three laboratories. Meanwhile, the bronze arms underwent changes under the influence of the Death Energy, transforming from bronze muscle into bronze bones.

As the arms transformed into bone, Gu Xi let out a surprised sound. He noticed that the bone structure inside the arms resembled that of a beast. Each arm had a different bone structure, suggesting that more than one corpse lay beneath.

However, since Luna had calculated it as one corpse, Gu Xi didn’t comment. One corpse was one corpse; corpses were all the same anyway.

With Gu Xi and the Death Avatar’s suppression, Luna finally completed the transformation of the area. The land of the abandoned old city district turned black, all buildings collapsed and crumbled, finally becoming a flat plain, leaving only bronze skeletal arms protruding from the ground. The tallest remained the twenty-meter-long arm, but Gu Xi now had a feeling that this arm was under his control.

A voice then echoed in Gu Xi’s ears:

[Ding! Affected by Death Energy, the abandoned old city district has undergone metamorphism. The area has been replanned and transformed into the Hundred-Armed Giant Burial Ground District.]
