Chapter 96: Cleaning the Battlefield (591)
I worked hard today and wrote 10,000 words. After thinking about it, I decided to just post what I have. There’s still another chapter I owe you. Thank you all for your support and subscriptions!
——
Under Gu Xi’s command, the Skeleton Archers marched forward. Their effective range was about 150 meters.
Given the situation, they needed to get closer to strike.
After deploying the Skeleton Archers, Gu Xi turned to Luna. “Right, where were we?”
“We were talking about the soldiers sent to Alerdovier,” Luna said with a giggle, covering her mouth. “Those regular soldiers are fine, quite docile. Once they arrived in Alierdo City, they just stood in the square in front of the city gate, not moving a muscle.
It’s the heroes and commanders among them who went to the tavern. The barmaid is thrilled! She’s learned a lot of useful information from them.
Oh, and the barmaid asked me to tell you, this might be a good opportunity. Five thousand strong soldiers. If you’re willing, they could easily take down the other two districts of Alierdo City.
They might even be able to capture the Alerdovier Tower.”
“I’ve considered it, but it’s not the right time yet. I only have one chance to control this army in battle, and I’m not sure what we might encounter along the way.
Only when we reach, or at least get close to, the Scattered Immortals’ Garden and confirm that the road is clear, can we use this force to fight for us.”
Gu Xi expressed his concerns and thoughts.
Luna was eager to take over the old city of Alierdo City. After all, as an elf of Alierdo City, the larger the city’s area, the higher her level and stronger her power would be.
But she also understood that Gu Xi’s reasoning was sound.
While these 5,000-plus soldiers were incredibly strong, they weren’t Gu Xi’s subordinates; he only had one chance to command them.
Using them now would allow for a swift capture of Alierdo City.
But if Gu Xi encountered danger along the way, the situation would become awkward.
Gu Xi had just arrived in this world, and he wasn’t sure what he might encounter.
Luna nodded at Gu Xi.
Gu Xi understood; Luna agreed with his idea.
So Gu Xi turned his attention back to the battlefield nearby.
More than 300 wild wolves were almost all dead. Wild wolves were originally strong fighters, but they lost their advantage in the battle against the Bone-Cutting Camp.
Coupled with the appearance of the Skeleton Archers, which disrupted the wolves’ counterattack,
the wolves lost their last chance to fight back.
The wolves, attacked by two types of Skeleton Soldiers simultaneously, had no chance of resistance and were easily killed on the spot.
As the number of wolves dwindled, Gu Xi, wrapped in a quilt, stood up and gestured towards the battlefield.
A large number of souls transformed into blue light points and flew into Gu Xi’s hands.
After gathering these souls, Gu Xi glanced at Luna.
Luna flew in the air, peeking at the battlefield before shaking her head at Gu Xi.
Gu Xi understood Luna’s meaning: there was no need to keep these wolves.
So Gu Xi flipped his hand, “Soul Summoning Technique!”
The souls that had just fallen into Gu Xi’s hands quickly flew out.
Accurately landing on the bodies of all the wolves.

As a series of system prompts sounded, skeletons tore through the wolves’ flesh and crawled out, and some corpse hounds with rotting skin also stood up.
This was the first time Gu Xi had summoned undead units other than skeletons using the Soul Summoning Technique.
This was easy to understand; after all, you couldn’t expect all the wolves to turn into skeletons; turning them into corpse hounds was more suitable.
[Corpse Hound (Level 0, Summoned Unit): EXP (0/100), Attack 2, Defense 1, HP 15, Skill: Tracking.]
The number of these corpse hounds wasn’t large, but they were remarkably agile. Gu Xi estimated that if they ran freely, they could probably reach 60 kilometers per hour.
“Luna, take these corpse hounds back and see if they have any other abilities. Also, leave four Ghostly Spirits with me. They are fast and can keep up with the Demon Coffin. With them watching, I can relax a bit.”
Gu Xi didn’t hesitate. These corpse hounds wouldn’t be of much use in this world; after all, they were low-level, with only 15 HP at level 0. A stronger wild wolf could bite one to death.
Gu Xi didn’t expect much from them; he just wanted to see if their skills had any new effects.
After sending Luna and her troops away, Gu Xi patted the Demon Coffin.
The Demon Coffin automatically turned towards the Scattered Immortals’ Garden.
This time, Gu Xi’s journey was much safer.
Over 300 wild wolves had used their lives to test Gu Xi, and all the beasts now knew that Gu Xi was a Necromancer they couldn’t afford to provoke.
Charging head-on at this point was simply suicide.
Not to mention that four Ghostly Spirits constantly circled above Gu Xi’s Demon Coffin. If any problem arose, the Ghostly Spirits would detect it 100 meters in advance and deal with it immediately.
Therefore, this journey was much quieter. Gu Xi, lying on the coffin lid, even managed to get a good night’s sleep under his quilt.
Even while Gu Xi slept, the Demon Coffin didn’t deviate from its course, consistently following the map’s indicated route.
If the weather hadn’t become increasingly cold, freezing Gu Xi awake, he might not have woken up so quickly.
“Where are we?”
Gu Xi rubbed his eyes after waking up and looked around.
However, nobody answered Gu Xi’s question. The Ghostly Spirits followed behind him, but they couldn’t speak.
With no other option, Gu Xi stood up on the coffin lid and looked ahead, comparing his surroundings to the map in an attempt to find a landmark to pinpoint his location.
Looking around, Gu Xi suddenly saw a lake, completely frozen over, in the distance.
There were several small huts built with piled-up trees on the lake’s surface, appearing as if they were built directly on the ice. He could even see faint lights inside the huts.
Gu Xi checked the map and compared the surroundings.
“Found it. This is White Star Lake. There’s a Sea Elephant and Beaver settlement on the lake; a neutral settlement, contactable, producing fish, crystals, and gemstones.”
After reading the map’s information, Gu Xi thought for a moment, pointed in that direction, and said, “Let’s go and see what’s at White Star Lake.”
