    Chapter 99: One Kill (793)

Watching the Walrus Mound charge towards him again, Gu Xi didn’t hesitate. He stomped heavily on the coffin lid. “Go!”

The Demon Coffin veered, instantly charging towards the man in the white baboon pelt in the distance.

Gu Xi had figured it out—this man was the real enemy. The Walrus Mound, while large, didn’t actually possess much killing power. As long as he could keep the man occupied, Gu Xi’s Skeleton Archers could deal with him.

Not to mention Gu Xi also had ten Ghostly Spirits. These spirits feared strong physical attacks the least; even if they just stalled him, ten Ghostly Spirits could wear the guy down.

And Luna was still over there.

Therefore, Gu Xi completely ignored the Walrus Mound pursuing him, charging straight towards the seemingly more formidable foe.

Seeing Gu Xi coming, a sneer crossed the man’s face. Level 3 and daring to attack him? This was clearly a lack of respect for strong opponents.

Didn’t he know that level 5 was a significant hurdle for all professions?

The man didn’t even intend to attack first. He merely raised his left hand, which held something resembling a brain.

    ‘Mental…’

Just as the man was about to use his equipped skill, he found Gu Xi had already prepared his own attack. The Demon Coffin surged straight towards the man, while Gu Xi raised the Fragmentation Rod like a magic wand, pointed at the man.

Simultaneously, he pulled out a blue potion from his left hand and drank it.

    “Death Avatar!”

With those words, black mist erupted from Gu Xi’s Fragmentation Rod. Within the mist was a coiled black Bone Dragon. This was the Death Avatar’s fastest charge speed.

The man hadn’t expected Gu Xi to unleash such a powerful move. He had thought Gu Xi would simply summon a city or something.

Only when the black Bone Dragon was about to reach him did the man react. The skill he was preparing landed on the Death Avatar.

However, the man’s skill was mental; he’d intended to control Gu Xi, sending him to his death against the Walrus Mound.

Now, switching skills was too late. The man decisively put away the brain-like thing in his left hand, darting to the side.

He had seen that the Death Avatar was level 11. Evading an opponent of that level wasn’t shameful.

But the man never imagined that the Death Avatar’s strongest attack wasn’t its black mist charge.

As the man evaded, the Death Avatar opened its mouth, spewing a green beam, which then swept across the area.

    ‘Death Dragon’s Breath!’

As the beam erupted, all sorts of screams echoed within the green light.

The man dodged quickly, but nothing is faster than light. The sweeping beam struck the man head-on as he momentarily paused.

He immediately raised his sickle, swinging it repeatedly.

But soon, the man realized he couldn’t withstand it. After only three or four seconds of contact with the green beam, at least four different curses fell upon him.

Each curse’s effect was random, varying in strength.

The man’s luck was terrible; three of the four curses were powerful ones.

[Weakness (Level 3): All cursed beings have 75% reduced strength, 50% reduced attack power, and 25% reduced health.]

[Amnesia (Level 4): All cursed beings cannot use ranged attacks, and spell attacks have a 50% chance of failure.]

[Evil Curse (Level 1): All cursed beings have 25% reduced attack power.]

[Mental Confusion (Level 5): All cursed beings have a 75% chance of becoming confused, causing them to misdirect attacks or evade incorrectly.]

The first three curses were manageable, but the Mental Confusion curse was devastating to the man.

This curse worked directly against his intentions. For example, if he intended to throw a left punch, his right leg might kick out instead. Or if he wanted to cast a fireball, the fireball might hit his own face.

Just as this happened, the man, cursed, clearly felt something was wrong.

He intended to retreat, moving out of the green beam’s range.

The man saw that the green beam’s power had visibly diminished. If he could hold on for another five or six seconds, the beam would disappear, and he’d still have a chance to fight back.

But as he tried to retreat, his legs, for some reason, involuntarily lunged forward, while his sickle swept behind him.

This sweep cleared his head and face, allowing the green beam to strike him directly in the face.

With this hit, the man finally screamed.

The Death Dragon’s Breath looked like a beam, but it was a combination of magic and death effects, essentially a dragon’s breath attack.

The man’s health was relatively high, but under the dragon’s breath, he only lasted three seconds.

Then, he was sent flying backward.

As he flew back, his white baboon pelt flew off, revealing a body covered in tattoos. Gu Xi was far enough away; if he were closer, he would have noticed that these tattoos weren’t inked on, but patches of skin, cut from other people, and sewn onto his body.

Now, with the baboon pelt gone, these skin patches were tearing.

The man still attempted to struggle, as his health hadn’t bottomed out, and the Death Avatar’s Death Dragon’s Breath had consumed its energy, giving him a chance.

But just as the man was about to use a health potion to save himself, the Death Avatar charged towards him, biting and throwing him.

This instantly cut the man in half at the waist.

The man’s last bit of health vanished; his eyes rolled back, his upper body falling onto the ice, utterly dead.

Gu Xi, who had arrived in the Demon Coffin, hadn’t even had time to attack. In mere seconds, he heard a voice in his ear:

[Death Avatar (Magical Construct) killed Wraith Boss (Level 9), you gained 5455 experience points.]

“Level 9?” Gu Xi only then realized the man’s level.

He was shocked by what he saw.

Even more surprising was the sheer amount of experience; over five thousand points—half of what he needed to reach level 4, all at once.

At that moment, the Walrus Mound, surrounded by Ghostly Spirits, clearly paused. It never expected such a powerful Wraith to die in mere seconds.

Gu Xi now saw the Walrus Mound and pointed towards it.

    “Kill him.”
