    Night.

    Icewind City.

The cold wind howled, sharp as a drawn blade. The slender, chain-bound prisoner—the evil spirit—nearly got caught by the enormous hand shrouded in a black robe.

    Li Wei’s hand missed.

Just as Li Wei was about to seize it, the evil spirit used its long chain to hook onto a chimney, then lightly floated towards it.

    “Trying to run?”

Li Wei sneered inwardly, his whole body launching itself upwards like a cannonball. With a boom, he landed on the rooftop.

The evil spirit, relying on its incorporeal nature, was able to pass through walls and vanished into a house below.

“Damn it, this is exhausting.” Li Wei smashed through the roof with a single kick.

He plunged directly into the room below.

Unlike the other rooms, which were abandoned, this one was occupied.

The woman of the house was engaging in activities couples typically partake in at night.

    “Aaah… what are you doing…?”

    The man shrieked.

The woman burrowed under the covers, afraid to show her face.

Li Wei completely ignored them, his gaze fixed on the evil spirit preparing to phase through the wall again.

    Golden Cross Slash!

Black energy coiled around Frost’s Sorrow.

    “Break!”

Li Wei unleashed a strike; the cross-shaped sword light was like a thunderbolt, a long rainbow piercing the sun, dazzling and impossible to look at directly!

    Boom!

The slash, swirling with thick black energy, sliced the room’s wall into four pieces.

After this attack, the evil spirit’s form became even more ethereal, like a candle flame that could be extinguished at any moment in the wind.

    It was even weaker!

If it weren’t for the suspected presence of the church’s archbishop nearby, Li Wei would have used the Flame Stream Seal. Both flames and black energy inflicted damage on evil spirits.

Boom, the house collapsed, but Li Wei had already vanished.

The man breathed a sigh of relief, watching Li Wei disappear.

    The woman did the same.

“Thank goodness, I thought it was Richard from your family who broke in,” the man said, relieved, standing in the courtyard.

Simultaneously, a dark-skinned old man, his body swirling with black energy and wielding a giant sword, hurried past.

“You two, engaging in such behavior in broad daylight! Dress yourselves immediately!”

Adolf, the grey-robed sage, rebuked them, then chased after the fleeing spirit.

Good heavens, when did Icewind City acquire such a powerful Great Knight, one so incredibly fast?

“Could it be Silver Mountain? No, it doesn’t seem like him.”

Adolf chased, his mind filled with doubt.

Meanwhile, the evil spirit, seemingly cornered by Li Wei, gave up trying to escape, letting out a low growl.

At the same time, the sound of clashing chains and metal rang out.

The ten-meter-long ethereal chain lunged at Li Wei.

Black energy enveloped Li Wei; he resembled a swirling mass of black mist, from which a large hand emerged, seizing the chain.

    A sizzling sound echoed.

The ethereal chain, under the influence of Li Wei’s thick black energy, began to smoke.

“This feeling… it’s like a Snow Wraith encountering mithril! The black energy is effective! No wonder this evil spirit ran from me; it couldn’t defeat me!” Li Wei’s thoughts raced.

With a powerful pull, he dragged the evil spirit towards him along the chain.

Then, Li Wei unleashed another Golden Cross Slash.

    Ripple Cross Slash!

Advanced Ripple power created ripples, making the black energy even more violent!

    Like a black demonic sword!

    Pshh.

The feeling of piercing through a solid object.

Li Wei felt like he had plunged a red-hot sword into a large piece of pork.

    The evil spirit’s chest sizzled.

Its figure became even more faint; its aura weakened.

Li Wei pressed his advantage, slashing repeatedly.

Soon, the evil spirit’s form resembled a waterlogged piece of tissue paper—fragile and easily torn.

It desperately tried to use its ghostly claws and chain to break through the black energy surrounding Li Wei, but to no avail.

The black energy was too thick; it felt like grasping at a vast sea of black energy, realizing its own insignificance.

Finally, Li Wei used his black energy-infused hands to tear the evil spirit apart, crushing and pulverizing it.

The evil spirit’s form completely dissipated, its intense resentment finally vanishing.

“That’s it?” Li Wei was doubtful.

“Did I actually kill it?” Li Wei questioned himself, his first time killing an evil spirit lacking experience.

Then Li Wei saw a puddle of white powder on the ground, resembling ashes, scattered everywhere.

    “Wraith Dust!” Li Wei rejoiced.

Not far away, the black energy around Adolf gradually dissipated, revealing the lean frame of the old man beneath.

He coughed, standing still, not making a move.

He knew he was no match for this mysterious individual.

In this person, Adolf saw a reflection of his younger self.

“Thank you for your assistance,” Adolf politely said.

The figure in the white wolf mask lifted his head, looking at Adolf without speaking.

Adolf smiled faintly, not pushing further.

He turned and hurried towards the church.

After the old man disappeared, Li Wei finally gathered the Wraith Dust, placing it into a container he had prepared.

“This much powder… I wonder if it’s enough to level up Dragon Might Seal to level two.”

Li Wei muttered to himself, finally leaving the battlefield.

He returned to his residence, called up Mo Sha and Mo Shan, and left Icewind City that night.

The commotion of last night’s battle was bound to attract the attention of Count Silver Mountain, and Li Wei didn’t want to be imprisoned for trespassing and property damage.

After all, he was simply acting as a hero, protecting the innocent.

Back in Black Water Valley, Li Wei reviewed his battle with the evil spirit.

Overall, the battle went as he expected.

No, the evil spirit was even weaker than he imagined.

“Perhaps, this was the weakest evil spirit.”

Li Wei warned himself against getting carried away after defeating a single evil spirit.

“However, it’s a good start, showing that a Great Knight can indeed fight against evil spirits, especially a defensive Great Knight like me; I have an advantage.”

“Because my black energy defense is far thicker than other Great Knights’, I didn’t even need to use the Guardian Seal to almost completely ignore attacks from this level of evil spirit; other Great Knights couldn’t do that.”

“To deal with evil spirits, you don’t need immense power; you just need sufficiently strong black energy to capture them. Before killing them, you need strong enough defense to negate their attacks.”

“Indeed, stacking defense is strong, always stacking defense is always strong.”

“The stacking defense build is the best.”

Li Wei felt relieved; his path was correct.

After this battle, Li Wei’s fear of the unknown regarding evil spirits gradually faded.

He would still remain cautious, but he wouldn’t be constantly scaring himself.

    Evil spirits are just… that.

“Once I master the Dragon Might Seal, I’ll go and kill that water nymph. I want to see how strong this evil spirit is, the one that killed the original owner and scared away Mo Sha.”

Living alongside evil spirits is dangerous.

Although Li Wei suspected that it couldn’t leave the vicinity of Black Water River, it was only a guess.

Therefore, eliminating it was the best course of action.

Li Wei prepared the materials he had ready for casting Dragon Might Seal.

He knew the incantation perfectly, and quickly succeeded in casting it.

Li Wei struck out at the void with a palm.

    Boom!

Instantly, power from the ethereal realm flooded into Li Wei’s body.

The Earth Dragon Beast blood in Li Wei’s spell materials burned fiercely, turning into flames, though these flames had no temperature, being only illusions.

Within the flames, a pair of eternally burning golden vertical pupils slowly opened, like golden flames exploding outwards; then a psychic field exploded!

    Roar!

    Like a dragon’s roar!

Under the Dragon’s Might, all things submitted!

The entire shelter seemed to tremble slightly due to the invisible psychic wave.

“Wow, this power is so strong? Mental attacks are actually interfering with matter?”

“This Dragon Might Seal… has something.”

    “This seal is extraordinary.”

Li Wei stared at the slowly dissipating dragon illusion, his heart shaken.

This was probably the legendary dragon.

The golden eyes were captivating, awe-inspiring, like an innate king, invincible and unparalleled!

After the excitement subsided, Li Wei opened his skill proficiency panel.

Sure enough, the Dragon Might Seal skill was imprinted on the panel.

    Li Wei—

Dragon Might Seal: Level 1 (1/1000)

“Another 1 point of proficiency. A thousand sets of spell materials to reach level 2, then tens of thousands…”

Li Wei estimated based on the amount used in one casting and the amount of Wraith Dust he had.

The Wraith Dust from this chain-bound evil spirit only provided enough for about one-tenth of a level.

“I need to kill ten evil spirits to reach level 2?”

“Forget it, this skill will do for now; level 1’s power should be enough.”

Li Wei currently had no idea where to find evil spirits.

And evil spirits aren’t all of the chain-bound evil spirit’s caliber.

If he encountered a powerful evil spirit, such as the one that killed the White Horse Knight, he would likely fail.

Therefore, leveling up Dragon Might Seal is a low priority.

Instead of desperately killing evil spirits to level up Dragon Might Seal, it’s better to focus on improving the quality of his black energy.

Regardless, Li Wei had obtained a skill targeting evil spirits, which was still cause for celebration.

“After more practice with Dragon Might Seal, I can go and meet that water nymph.” Li Wei said, then immersed himself in the task of gaining experience.

    Meanwhile, in Icewind City.

The aftermath of that night’s battle had not yet subsided.

The Icewind Church announced that they had successfully used newly developed holy water to exorcise an evil spirit hidden in Icewind City.

At the same time, Icewind City’s gates reopened.

    The citizens rejoiced.

They were thrilled by the church’s feat.

Many wealthy people donated a considerable amount of gold coins to the church that day.

They also sold a lot of holy water.

This allowed the church to make a profit.

    Inside Silver Mountain Fortress.

    The guest hall.

Count Silver Mountain and a grey-robed elder sat opposite each other.

“Was it really not you who killed the evil spirit that night?”

    Adolf asked with a smile.

Count Silver Mountain sighed helplessly, shaking his head. “Adolf, we’ve been friends for many years. You were my idol when I was young. How could I lie to you? I, Silver Mountain, never lie.”

Adolf frowned, then sighed. “It seems it wasn’t you. Then who was it? Judging by the aura of the black energy, that person’s strength was not inferior to yours, only slightly weaker than you in your younger days.”

“Oh, this person was so strong?” Silver Mountain was slightly surprised.

“Yes, I initially thought he was a speed-type Great Knight. But after seeing that the chain attacks of the evil spirit, the Chain-Bound Prisoner, failed to break through his black energy defense, I realized he was a defensive type. What’s scariest is that his power also seemed unparalleled, and he was proficient in an extremely powerful sword technique.

Silver Mountain, you have a hidden grandmaster in Icewind City. The scariest thing is that this grandmaster never appears in public. If he hadn’t chased after the evil spirit that night, we wouldn’t even know such a low-key master existed.

Luckily, this master seems to have no ill intentions. He even helped the old man eliminate an evil spirit.

Heavenly Father, if I were ten years younger… no, even five years younger, I would have used my fists to tell this damned evil spirit that Icewind City is not a place for it to run wild!”

The grey-robed sage looked regretful, once again reminiscing about his past glory, something Silver Mountain had heard countless times.

Silver Mountain, however, frowned. He suddenly remembered the mysterious disappearance of the Wilderness Brothers Association’s vice-chairman, Atos, some time ago, suspected to have been killed by a mysterious strongman.

…Could it be the same person?
