The Wizard: Grinding Experience Starting with Knight Breathing Techniques 18
by admin“Wolves are coming!”
“Wolves are coming! Run!”
“Wolves are coming! Help!”
Shouts echoed throughout Black Water Valley.
Emaciated gray wolves were running amok in the fields, and around the cattle and sheep pens behind the houses.
These domesticated animals were no match for the ferocious gray wolves.
“Damn it!”
“Die!”
Militiamen, armed with long swords, simple armor woven from vines, and wooden shields, fought the pack, but many were terrified by the horrifying wolves.
Sam, a young man who had only recently joined the militia, trembled as he clutched his knight’s sword, his limbs shaking. Although he had mastered basic combat skills and his training results were among the best in the militia, facing the terrifying gray wolves, the oppressive feeling and the stench of blood made him uncontrollably tremble.
“Sam, what are you doing? Fight!” a militia squad leader shouted from a distance.
“Captain… I… I can’t control my legs,” the young man named Sam cried, his groin already wet and quickly freezing in the cold winter—he had literally urinated out of fear.
Just like some birds that, after escaping the clutches of a bird of prey, are paralyzed on the ground due to stress, humans, when faced with sudden fright and fear, can also fall into a state of mental blankness. This is the primal fear, ingrained since before civilization, of these bloodthirsty beasts.
A gray wolf, its eyes glowing with green light, roared and lunged at Sam. It had been hungry for a month, and having found no food for so long, it no longer cared about the fear of man’s iron and fire; it only wanted to eat meat, whether animal…or human.
“Mother, I’m going to the bosom of the Heavenly Father too,” Sam closed his eyes, his mind a jumbled mess.
At that moment, a whooshing sound came.
An arrow pierced the air, striking the oncoming gray wolf in the head with lightning speed.
The gray wolf whimpered, stumbled, and cried out in agony before dying shortly after.
Sam remained dazed, unsure if he was still alive.
Until a large, strong hand patted his shoulder.
“The Heavenly Father does not accept cowards who give up the struggle. Stand up, grasp your sword, and fight alongside your lord!”
Li Wei walked up from behind, waking the terrified soldier.
He sighed inwardly. Soldiers like this—how could they go to war? They lacked real combat experience!
Having said that, Li Wei leaped, landing directly in front of another gray wolf.
Li Wei’s arm moved like a illusion!
His blade flashed, Golden Cross Slash!
High-level vibrational force!
Crack.
The gray wolf’s head was severed by the blade.
A column of blood sprayed out, splattering Li Wei’s face.
[Golden Cross Slash Proficiency +3]
He licked the blood from his lips, then drew his bow and arrow, killing a wolf fifty meters away that was gutting a cow.
“Sam, don’t be afraid. Wolf fangs, no matter how sharp, are no match for your sword. Keep fighting,” Sir Fredrick came over, patted Sam’s shoulder, and comforted him.
Sam wiped his tears. He looked at the young lord who had just cut off the gray wolf’s head.
He was only fourteen, five years younger than himself, still a child.
But the bravery and fearlessness displayed by the young lord made him feel so useless.
Sam! What kind of man are you, what kind of man are you!
“Kill!” Sam, his legs trembling, attacked several gray wolves that were besieging his companions.
On the other side, Sir Fredrick, seeing Li Wei had gone berserk, quickly followed.
Such a large wolf pack must have an alpha.
And to rule such a large pack, the alpha’s strength was likely considerable.
Although they hadn’t yet discovered the alpha’s whereabouts, Sir Fredrick believed it was watching from the shadows.
Sure enough, a long howl echoed from the hillside.
A massive gray wolf, the size of an adult male polar bear, coldly observed Li Wei and Sir Fredrick slaughtering its pack below.
Its instincts told it that the two humans were strong, especially the older one. If he didn’t eliminate these two humans, the losses to his pack might be even greater than the last battle with the northern giant bears—after all, human intelligence and weapons were superior to the northern giant bears.
Moreover, he smelled the scent of a northern giant bear on the younger human, a scent he had also detected on his dead pack members.
Therefore, the highly intelligent mutated wolf king decided that he must eliminate these two humans, no matter what.
It leaped, like a white illusion, swiftly running down the mountain; even a cheetah’s burst of speed couldn’t match the wolf king’s.
To some extent, the mutated wolf king, for some unknown reason, was no longer an ordinary beast.
Like a knight, it had broken through the strength limits of its species; it was no longer a mere wolf.
Down below, a pile of gray wolf corpses had accumulated around Li Wei. Upon discovering Li Wei’s ferocity, the wolves didn’t flee.
Instead, they swarmed him, attempting to overwhelm him with numbers, but Sir Fredrick guarded Li Wei constantly.
As a retainer of the Black Snake family, his mission was to protect his lord’s safety.
Facing this pack, Sir Fredrick displayed his terrifying strength for the first time in front of Li Wei.
His sword was like an impenetrable wall. Any gray wolf that attempted to sneak attack him was instantly killed.
Not a single gray wolf could withstand Sir Fredrick’s single blow.
However, Li Wei could see that Sir Fredrick was using his breathing technique. He breathed deeply, white heat rising from his body in the cold winter. His eyes changed from gentle to fierce.
“Young master, a formidable enemy is coming. I will face it with all my might. Protect yourself,” Sir Fredrick said coldly, summoning five militiamen to surround Li Wei, shielding him in their midst.
Li Wei nodded. He also saw a fast-approaching white streak in the distance—a frost-white giant wolf, like a white lightning bolt, charging into the battlefield. Three militiamen standing in its path were easily knocked aside, one of them crushed by a paw, his death gruesome.
“The alpha!” Li Wei said coldly.
Protected by the militiamen, he drew his bow and arrow, aiming at the alpha with his max-level archery.
Even against moving targets, Li Wei always achieved a hundred percent accuracy.
But this time, against the alpha, although his arrow struck, it was deflected by the wolf king’s claw.
“What kind of speed is that?” Li Wei was astonished.
“Sir Fredrick, be careful, this alpha is no ordinary wolf!” Li Wei hastily warned.
This wolf king was definitely stronger than ordinary knight warriors.
To Li Wei, it was far more terrifying than a hundred ordinary gray wolves.
